Introducing The Call, a unique rocket sidearm in Destiny 2, easier to acquire than ever before.
For an extended period, the “destination weapons” introduced with new Destiny expansions have often been lackluster. Does anyone still wield Shadowkeep’s lunar armaments or the firearms from Beyond Light’s Europa? Fortunately, The Final Shape has revolutionized this trend, presenting The Pale Heart’s arsenal as fresh, captivating, and highly sought after. Among these, The Call stands out prominently.
Recently, Bungie has been invigorating the meta by unveiling novel and peculiar variants of existing weapons. The Call exemplifies this innovation as a rocket frame sidearm: long-range, hard-hitting, and utilizing special ammo—essentially a complete antithesis to a standard sidearm. The previous season’s Indebted Kindness, the sole weapon of this type, was among the most craved in the game. With The Call, rocket frames are now more accessible and craftable. This weapon is #1 to keep and use in any situation.
There are dual strategies for the PvE god roll. Warlocks and threadling enthusiasts will favor pairing Demolitionist with Hatchling, enabling additional threadlings and grenades. Others, particularly strand hunters, will gravitate towards Slice to debuff adversaries and generate tangles, paired with a steadfast damage perk such as One for All or Desperate Measures. One for All excels here due to the splash damage ensuring frequent multi-target hits.
While rocket sidearms have been well-received in PvE, they haven’t made a significant impact in PvP. The Call, in particular, faces stiff competition from the exotic special sidearm Forerunner. Nonetheless, for those keen on bringing it into the Crucible, I suggest focusing on damage perks that don’t necessitate a reload, such as Golden Tricorn or Desperate Measures, along with Beacon Rounds for post-kill tracking. Enhance your velocity through barrel, magazine, and masterwork choices to make your shots harder for opponents to evade.
I’d like to share my thoughts about this weapon in PvE scenarios. Firstly, I must mention that the “pve god roll” I referred to earlier is the most popular among the player database. On the other hand, the Hatchling perk is really good if you use this weapon to clear minor enemies, but that’s not my situation.
My Personal Choice
I rely on the “Lead From Gold” perk to obtain extra ammo and the “Vorpal Weapon” perk to deal extra damage against enemy elites. Each shot eats the big health chunk of major enemies, and this is my preferred method of dealing with them. I would suggest using this perk combo if you have another weapon in your loadout that is effective against minor enemies. To handle enemy waves, I use Graviton Lance and a powered melee combination.
