The Engineering profession in WoW Cataclysm Classic is a crafting skill that allows you to create gizmos, gadgets, goggles, explosives, trinkets, pets, and more.
This guide covers how to get started in Engineering, the best secondary professions, optimal races and classes, differences between WoTLK Classic and Cataclysm Classic, profession trainer locations, and the basics of crafting items in Engineering.
Engineering introduces a variety of new gizmos and gadgets, continuing the tradition from previous expansions. Players will still find explosives, goggles, mechanical pets, and more. Cataclysm Classic adds several new Engineering-crafted items to the game.
Some of the best items you can create include:

Buy a Blacksmith Hammer from a Blacksmithing or Engineering supply vendor, who is usually located near your trainer. You can also purchase one from any general or trade goods vendor.
Gnome characters have a +15 Engineering skill bonus due to their passive Engineering Specialization. This additional 15 skill points means recipes stay orange for 15 extra points, allowing you to save a lot of gold by crafting lower-level recipes for an additional 15 points.
1 – 35
You might even reach 40 with this recipe. You will need the 60 Rough Blasting Powder later, so keep these.
35 – 55
You will need around 30 of these later.
Journeyman Engineering
Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Engineering (level required – 10).
55 – 56
You will use this to craft engineering recipes, so keep it.
You probably won’t be exactly at 56. This is just an estimated number.
56 – 75
75 – 90
Keep 20 of these.
90 – 100
100 – 113
113 – 125
Visit your trainer and learn Expert Engineering (level required – 20).
125 – 150
Make sure that you start making the Heavy Blasting Powder first.
You will need x30 Heavy Blasting Powder and x15 Whirring Bronze Gizmo later, so make these now and you should reach 150 skill points.
150 – 160
Keep these too.
By crafting them now, you might advance significantly, possibly reaching around 160. Stop making these items at that point and only make more when necessary.
160 – 175
Keep 5 of these items; you might need them if you choose Goblin Engineering at skill level 200.
175 -176
Keep this, you will need it to craft some of the Engineering recipes.
176 – 195
Save these because you will need them later.
195 – 200
Stop making these when you reach skill level 200. Keep x6 Mithril Tubes, as you might need them if you choose Gnomish Engineering at that level.
Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Engineering (level required – 35).
At skill level 200, Engineers can choose to specialize in either Gnomish Engineering or Goblin Engineering. Some items require a specific specialization to craft, while others can be crafted by one specialization but used by any engineer. Fortunately, most items are crafted by one specialization and can be used by both.
Choosing a specialization is not necessary for leveling up in Engineering, so you can decide to pursue this later if you prefer not to complete the quest right now.
200 – 215
Save these.
215 – 238
Save these.
238 – 250
250 – 260
You might need to make more than 30 to reach 260.
260 – 285
It will be yellow for the last few points, so you may need to make a few extra to reach 285.
285 – 300
This will be yellow for 5 points, so you may need to make a few extra.
Visit your trainer and learn Master Engineering (level required – 50).
300 – 320
You will use these later, so make them now for some free skill points.
Crafting one Elemental Blasting Powder creates 4 powders, so you will end up with 40 in total.
You might have to make a few more Fel Iron Bomb in the next step if you don’t reach 320.
320 – 325
You might need to make more of these if you are unlucky with the skill point gains.
325 – 335
Stop making these if you were lucky with skill gains and reach 335. The next recipe is much cheaper.
335 – 350
This will be green for the most part, so this is just an approximate number.
The Schematic: White Smoke Flare recipe can be bought from these vendors:
It’s a limited supply item, so if someone else has bought it before you, you’ll need to wait for it to respawn (around 7-10 minutes), or you can check other vendors.
Visit your trainer and learn Grand Master Engineering (level required – 65).
350 – 375
You will need around x50 Handfuls of Cobalt Bolts and x24 Volatile Blasting Trigger later. Make these now, and you should reach 375 or more. Be sure to make Handful of Cobalt Bolts before making Volatile Blasting Trigger, as the Volatile Blasting Trigger stays yellow longer, making it better to craft them later.
Keep it in mind that when you craft Handful of Cobalt Bolts you can get 1 or 3 bolts, and the same goes for Volatile Blasting Trigger, you’ll get 2 for each craft.
Save both.
375 – 385
Save these too. You’ll need them.
385 – 390
x7 Explosive Decoy – x7 Frostweave Cloth, x21 Volatile Blasting Trigger
You better make a few more from this.

400 – 405
The recipe will be yellow so you better make a few more.
405 – 410
410 – 415
415 – 420
If you were lucky with the skill gains previously you could have already reached 420 at this point, then skip making these and get straight to the 420 part.
Stop making these when you reach 420.
420 – 425
Visit your trainer and learn the new Cataclysm Classic Engineering skill (level required – 75).
425 – 442
Save these. You better make more of these later.
442 – 445
445 – 460
Keep these.
460 – 470
Make two from one of these:
470 – 475
475 – 490
490 – 495
495 – 505
If you picked Goblin Engineering specialization, make these items instead:
