Inscription in WoW Cataclysm Classic is a crafting profession that allows players to mill gathered herbs into various pigments, convert those pigments into inks, and combine them with vendor-purchased parchments. Scribes can then create glyphs, shoulder enchants, offhand items, Darkmoon Cards, Enchanting Vellums, and other useful items.

This guide covers how to get started in Inscription, the best secondary professions, the best races and classes, profession trainer locations, and the basics of crafting items in Inscription.

Inscription In WoW Cataclysm Classic

In Cataclysm Classic, Inscription introduces a new category of glyph: Prime, in addition to the existing Major and Minor slots. As before, all Glyphs can be crafted using the Inscription profession and bought or sold on the Auction House.

Cataclysm Classic adds several new Inscription-crafted items to the game. Some of the best items you can create include:

  • Ashen Pigment: The new pigment that can be used to create Blackfallow Ink.
  • Burning Embers and Inferno Ink: The rare equivalents of Ashen Pigment and Blackfallow Ink.
  • Dust of Disappearance: The level 81+ equivalent of Vanishing Powder that is used to remove Glyphs your character is currently using.
  • Forged Documents: Start a quest that rewards you with 10 gold.
  • Affordable replacements for shoulder enchants.
  • Items like Origami Slime, Origami Rock, and Origami Beetle.
  • Darkmoon Card of Destruction: Produces a random card from one of the four new decks – Earthquake Deck, Hurricane Deck, Tsunami Deck, and Volcanic Deck.
  • Adventurer’s Journal: A handy new item that has a chance to buff your quest experience gain, damage vs. beasts/humans/dragonkin, movement speed, or provide a chance to heal yourself with attacks.

There are many Glyphs and Scrolls across different skill levels that require the same amount of materials. So, when you see Glyphs, you can choose from several recipes that are at the same skill level (orange) and use the same materials.

75 – 80

  • 21 Midnight Ink – 42 Dusky Pigment

80 – 101

  • 7 Glytphs of … – 21 Midnight Ink

Make any Glyph that is orange to you. Glyphs turn yellow after 10 points here, then learn new recipes and choose another Glyph.

101 – 105

  • 40 Lion’s Ink – 80 Golden Pigment

Make any orange Glyph if you did not reach 105 by making these.

105 – 126

  • 7 Glyphs of … – 21 Lion’s Ink
  • Create any Glyph that is marked as orange for your skill level. Your goal should always be to craft Glyphs while they are orange. After gaining 5 points, Glyphs will turn yellow. At that point, learn new recipes and select another Glyph that is orange.

126 – 200

Learn Inscription Expert (level required – 20).

125 – 129

It’s crucial to stop making this recipe at skill level 129! You won’t gain the benefits of multiple skill-ups if you go beyond 129. Turn your Burnt Pigment into Dawnstar Ink. If you haven’t milled your herbs and don’t have Burnt Pigment, you can create any Glyph that is orange for your skill level.

129 – 147

  • 6 Glyphs of … – 18 Lion’s Ink

Make any Glyph that is orange to you. Glyphs turn yellow after 5 and 10 points here, so you have to keep learning new ones.

147 – 150

  • Make Strange Tarot until you reach 150. It all comes down to how many Dawnstar Ink you have.

150 – 155

  • 42 Jadefire Ink – 90 Emerald Pigment

155 – 197

  • 14 Glyphs of … – 42 Jadefire Ink

Make orange Glyphs. You have to keep learning new ones every 5 points.

Turn all your Indigo Pigment into Royal Ink at 175 if you have any.

197 – 200

  • Make Arcane Tarot until you reach 200.

Make any Glyph that is yellow to your skill level if you don’t have Royal Ink. There won’t be any orange Glyps for this part.

200 – 290

  • Learn Inscription Artisan (level required – 35)

200 – 205

55 Celestial Ink – 110 Violet Pigment

205 – 247

  • 14 Glyphs of … – 42 Celestial Ink

Make Glyphs until they become yellow, then learn new ones.

Turn all your Ruby Pigment into Fiery Ink at 225.

247- 250

  • Make one Book of Stars if you have enough Fiery Ink. Otherwise, make any Glyph that is yellow to you.

250-255

  • 20-35 Shimmering Ink – 40-70 Silvery Pigment

If you mill your herbs, you will probably need less Inks because you’ll make some Ink of the Sky from your rare pigments between 275 – 295.

255 – 260

  • 5 Scroll of Spirit V – 5 Shimmering Ink, 10 Heavy Parchment

260 – 275

  • 5 Glyphs of … – 15 Shimmering Ink

Keep making Glyphs until they turn yellow, then learn new ones.

275 – 290

  • 15 Ink of the Sky – 15 Sapphire Pigment

You have to make more orange Glyphs if you didn’t mill your herbs or if you don’t have 15 Sapphire Pigments.

471 – 475

  • 4 Scroll of Agility I – 4 Blackfallow Ink

475 – 482

Turn all your Burning Embers into Inferno Ink. If you don’t have any Burning Ember, skip this part and start making the net recipe.

482 – 490

Go to Vashj’ir – Kelp’thar Forest and kill mobs until you obtain the Technique: Origami Slime ( zone drop with a high chance). Although the recipe will be green, it only requires Resilient Parchment, which can be purchased from Inscription supply vendors.

Before farming, check your bank or bag to see if you already have it. You might have stored it away when your Inscription skill was lower and then forgotten about it. Remember, it won’t drop again if you already have it in your bag or bank. This also applies to the next two recipes.

You can make the recipe below if you don’t want to farm the technique:

15 Dust of Disappearance – 15 Blackfallow Ink

490 – 500

Go to Deepholm and kill Twilight Bloodsmith mobs until you get Technique: Origami Rock (zone drop recipe) – Other mobs can drop it too. Learn the recipe and make it until you reach 500.

500 – 510

Head to Uldum and just kill every mob until you get Technique: Origami Beetle (zone drop). Learn the recipe and make it until you reach 510.

510 – 520

The cheapest method would be to make Forged Documents up to 520 or 525. It has a cooldown of 24-hours (it always resets at 0:00), but the materials are cheap, unlike the other items you can craft at this skill level. This way, it will take around 15-16 days to level Inscription.

If you want to reach 525 as fast as possible, make 4 Divine Companion, Battle Tome, or Dungeoneering Guide.

520 – 525

Make one from one of these:

  • 1 Notched Jawbone – 12 Inferno Ink, 36 Volatile Life, 12 Volatile Earth, 1 Bleached Jawbone
  • 1 Silver Inlaid Leaf – 12 Inferno Ink, 36 Volatile Life, 12 Volatile Air, 1 Silver Charm Bracelet
  • 1 Tattooed Eyeball – 12 Inferno Ink, 36 Volatile Life, 12 Volatile Water, 1 Preserved Ogre Eye
