The Leatherworking profession in WoW Cataclysm Classic allows characters to craft gear from leather, leather scraps, furs, and other materials primarily obtained from beasts. Many players pair Leatherworking with Skinning to easily acquire these materials.

Leatherworking In WoW Cataclysm Classic

In Cataclysm Classic, you’ll find several new basic materials for Leatherworking, including Savage Leather, Blackened Dragonscale, and Deepsea Scale.

How To Level Leatherworking In Cataclysm Classic

1 – 55

You can buy threads, dyes, and salt from Leatherworking Supply vendors near your trainer.

1-20: 19 Light Leather (57 Ruined Leather Scraps). Make the next recipe if you don’t have Ruined Leather Scraps.
20-45 or 1-45: 40 Light Armor Kit (40 Light Leather).
45-55: 20 Handstitched Leather Cloak (40 Light Leather, 20 Coarse Thread).

Journeyman Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Journeyman Leatherworking (Requires level 10).

55 – 100

55-100: 50 Embossed Leather Gloves (150 Light Leather, 100 Coarse Thread).

100 – 120

100-120: 25 Fine Leather Belt (150 Light Leather, 50 Coarse Thread).

Check the Auction House and if 1 Medium Hide is cheaper than 4 Medium Leather, buy up to 25 of them. Don’t buy more than 25, and don’t buy them if they are expensive. Make as many Cured Medium Hides as you can. Keep both the Fine Leather Belt and the Cured Medium Hide because you can make Dark Leather Belt with them.

120 – 135

120-135: 20 Dark Leather Boots (80 Medium Leather, 40 Fine Thread, 20 Gray Dye).

If you made Cured Medium Hide, make as many Dark Leather Belts as you can instead of the boots. Stop making them at 150.

Expert Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Expert Leatherworking (Requires level 20).

135 – 155

135-150: 25 Dark Leather Pants (300 Medium Leather, 25 Gray Dye, 25 Fine Thread).
150-155: 7 Heavy Leather (35 Medium Leather).
Or: Make 7 Heavy Leather Ball (14 Heavy Leather, 7 Fine Thread). The pattern is sold by these NPCs.

155 – 165

155-165: 20 Cured Heavy Hide (20 Heavy Hide, 60 Salt). You will need the Cured Heavy Hides later.

Alternative Recipes

If you don’t have any Heavy Hides:

155-180: Heavy Armor Kit (175 Heavy Leather).
180-190: Guardian Pants or Barbaric Leggings (156 Heavy Leather, 26 Bolt of Silk Cloth or 100 Heavy Leather, 10 Moss Agate).
190-200: Barbaric Leggings (130 Heavy Leather, 13 Moss Agate). The pattern is sold by these NPCs.

165 – 205

165-180: 15 Heavy Armor Kit (75 Heavy Leather, 15 Fine Thread).
180-190: 10 Barbaric Shoulders (80 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 20 Fine Thread).
190-200: 10 Guardian Gloves (40 Heavy Leather, 10 Cured Heavy Hide, 10 Silken Thread).
200-205: 7 Thick Armor Kit (35 Thick Leather, 7 Silken Thread).

Artisan Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Artisan Leatherworking (Requires level 35).

205 – 235

205-235: 40 Nightscape Headband (200 Thick Leather, 80 Silken Thread). These can be sold to vendors for a good return.

235 – 300

235-250: 15 Nightscape Pants (210 Thick Leather, 60 Silken Thread).
250-265: 25 Rugged Armor Kit (125 Rugged Leather).
265-290: 28 Wicked Leather Bracers (224 Rugged Leather, 28 Black Dye, 28 Rune Thread).
290-300: 10 Wicked Leather Headband (120 Rugged Leather, 10 Black Dye, 10 Rune Thread).

Master Leatherworking (300-350)

Visit your trainer and learn Master Leatherworking (Requires level 50).

300-325: Before making the armor kits, turn all your Knothide Leather Scraps into Knothide Leather if you farmed the leathers. 30 Knothide Armor Kit (120 Knothide Leather). The recipe will be yellow, so you might need to make a few more.
Or: Make Wicked Leather Belt up to 325 if you can get a lot of cheap Rugged Leather. You will need around 400 Rugged Leather to reach 325.
325-335: 66 Heavy Knothide Leather (330 Knothide Leather). You can stop making Heavy Knothide Leather at 335 and make the rest later.
335-350: 22 Thick Draenic Vest (66 Heavy Knothide Leather, 66 Rune Thread). The recipe will be yellow for the last 10 points, so you might need to make a few more.
Or: Make 18 Scaled Draenic Boots (36 Heavy Knothide Leather, 36 Fel Scales, 54 Rune Thread). This can be a good alternative if you can get cheap Fel Scales. The recipe will be yellow for the last 5 points, so you might need to make a few more to reach 350.

Grand Master Leatherworking

Visit your trainer and learn Grand Master Leatherworking (Requires level 65).

350 – 410

Transform all your Borean Leather Scraps into Borean Leather if you are a Skinner. Do not right-click the Leather Scraps; there is a recipe that gives you skill-ups and free skill points.

350-380: 35 Borean Armor Kit (175 Borean Leather).
380-386: 6 Arctic Boots (48 Borean Leather).
386-390: 4 Arctic Gloves (40 Borean Leather).
390-405: 92 Heavy Borean Leather (552 Borean Leather). Make Arctic Belt and Arctic Wristguards if you bought the Heavy Borean Leather from the Auction House.
405-410: 10 Arctic Wristguards (120 Borean Leather). You might need to make more than 10 because this recipe is yellow.

410 – 420

Make 13 from one of these:

13 Dark Frostscale Leggings (52 Heavy Borean Leather, 65 Crystallized Water).
13 Dark Iceborne Leggings (52 Heavy Borean Leather, 65 Crystallized Shadow).

Both will be yellow, so you might need to make more.

420-425

5 Overcast Bracers (40 Heavy Borean Leather, 5 Eternal Water). The pattern is sold by Braeg Stoutbeard (in front of the building where the Leatherworking trainer is).

Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking (425-525)

Visit your trainer and learn the new Cataclysm Classic Leatherworking skill (Requires level 75).

425 – 510

425-435: 10 Savage Leather (50 Savage Leather Scraps). Start making the next recipe if you don’t have Savage Leather Scraps. If you have more Scraps, make Savage Leather until it turns gray.
435-450: 15 Savage Armor Kit (75 Savage Leather).
450-460: 10 Tsunami Boots (70 Savage Leather, 10 Eternium Thread). You can buy Eternium Threads from Leatherworking Supply vendors. You can also make any other item that requires 7 Savage Leather.
460-470: 10 Savage Cloak (70 Savage Leather, 10 Eternium Thread). Or any other orange item that requires 7 Savage Leather.
470-475: 5 Darkbrand Boots (50 Savage Leather, 5 Eternium Thread).
475-480: 5 Darkbrand Shoulders (60 Savage Leather, 5 Eternium Thread). You can also make Scorched Leg Armor up to 485.
480-485: 5 Darkbrand Chestguard (60 Savage Leather, 5 Eternium Thread). You could also make Twilight Leg Armor up to 490 or any other orange item that requires 12 Savage Leather.

485-490

152 Heavy Savage Leather (760 Savage Leather).

490-496

2 Darkbrand Leggings (8 Heavy Savage Leather, 24 Volatile Earth)/

496-502

2 Cloak of Beasts (16 Heavy Savage Leather, 4 Volatile Earth, 4 Volatile Air, 4 Volatile Water, 4 Volatile Fire).

502-504

2 Darkbrand Helm (10 Heavy Savage Leather). It is crucial to stop making these at 504.

504-510

Make 2 from one of these:

2 Cloak of Beasts (16 Heavy Savage Leather, 4 Volatile Earth, 4 Volatile Air, 4 Volatile Water, 4 Volatile Fire).
2 Cloak of War (120 Blackened Dragonscale).

510 – 525

You can buy these recipes in all major cities near your Leatherworking Trainer. The NPC is labeled as “Leatherworking Supplies” (excluding Dalaran and Shattrath).

Every vendor recipe changes to yellow after 5 skill points, meaning you’ll purchase a new recipe every 5 points. Each of these recipes gives you 2 skill points. You can use different recipes since most use the same amount of materials.
