World of Warcraft Shadowlands brought multiple features that have already completely changed the way we play. Leveling system shrinked, so boosting your alts becomes even easier (not as easy, though, as with our Character Leveling service), and the endgame can surprise you with the difficult content from Torghast, Tower of the Damned, unless you asked your Leprestore friends’ Torghast Tower boost for help. However, probably, the key “linking” mechanics the expansion uses are concerned with Shadowlands Covenants.

The Afterlife in World of Warcraft is represented by the sequence of multiple realms, which serve a certain purpose: some of them help the arrogant and cruel souls to have redemption, some guard the laws of Death itself, and others protect the glorious and kind souls from the unfair faith. Bastion, Maldraxxus, Ardenweald and Revendreth are four separate zones that have their specific denizens, the Covenants.
Four Covenants successfully guarded Shadowlands for ages.
The 9.0 World of Warcraft Covenants belong to a certain realm and have a unique mission in the Afterlife activities. Kyrian are the angelic-like guardians of transmission souls from the real world to the Afterlife. Necrolords are the warriors that defend the Death realms from the outside threats. Night Faes help nature-linked souls to have a rebirth in the mysterious realm connected with Emerald Dream. Venthyr punishes the souls in order to grant them the possibility of redemption: otherwise, the dark deeds would have thrown them into the Maw.
Each Covenant has its own endgame campaign, bonuses for the gameflow (like special Covenant abilities) and visual look (like transmog armor, pets and mounts) and, of course, the unique role of your character for the Shadowlands story.
Ardenweald is a peaceful place. But Sylvanas’ actions caused it the immense damage
To earn this stuff, you need to finish the expansion campaign on your main character. Thus, you have to reach level 60 through the adventuring in the lands of each realm: first, you will enter the noble Bastion, then you turn to the rough Maldraxxus, after which you’ll attend the mysterious Ardenweald and end up in the cruel Revendreth. As hero of both the living and the dead, you will have the opportunity to test all the story twists and specific features of each Covenant, before you will get to the choice stage. At level 60 your journey will come to a point, where you should choose the Covenant you like.
However, the choice should be made carefully! Even though you will have the opportunity to change the Covenant to another one, returning back to the one you have already been to may appear to feel problematic. The Covenant you have left before observes you as a traitor, so you need to prove to them your desire to rejoin is pure and free of deception (technically, you will have to finish a VERY long and tiring questline).
Good news, though! If you have managed to finish the campaign storyline with at least one of your characters, all your other chars (Alts) will have the chance to choose covenants immediately after reaching level 50. Moreover, every Alt obtains the choice between passing “classical” campaign (just as your main one) called “Replay Storyline” and “The Threads of Fate” mode that allows you to level up through completing the story of your Covenant and making world quests. Remember that you cannot switch to playing the main storyline from this mode!
You don’t have to play the entire Shadowlands campaign twice.
Well, it is a tricky question! Many players ask themselves how to choose a covenant, bearing in mind that this mechanic is important not only from the perspective of visual style or the story, but as an important gameplay feature. Have a look at our few Shadowlands covenants summarizing tables to choose the one suitable for you according to the features each Covenant has.
1.) Abilities
Each Covenant has two special abilities for your character: one is common to all members of Covenant (Signature ability), and the second is class-specific.
Covenant | Ability | Description |
---|---|---|
Kyrian | Summon Steward | Calls a small steward that brings you a Phial of Serenity. It can be consumed to restore 20% of health and remove all negative effects. |
Necrolords | Fleshcraft | Gives you a shield that absorbs 20% of your maximum health in 4 seconds. Using near corpses may increase the bonus up to 50%. |
Night Fae | Soulshape | Turns you into a Vulpin and allows you to teleport short distances with the increase of speed. It lasts 12 seconds, and the number of teleports is not limited. |
Venthyr | Door of Shadows | Teleport with a quite good range. |
Shadowlands Covenant Abilities are combined with the combat-class ones. It means that each class has four unique skills (though, you can choose only one as far as you cannot be member of several Covenants at once).
We would recommend you Night Fae Covenant class ability for Mage.
2.) Story and PvE activities
Choosing one of the Covenants is changing your strategy in PvE activities and the roleplay you make in the new expansion. Some covenants are good for raids, even though it is still better to order Castle Nathria Heroic boost from our store as well as Mythic Plus Dungeons Carry service, if you think that even with the most suitable Covenant you still need some help with M+. Below you can find a short story description and the information about which covenants are good with certain endgame content and classes.
Our scheme will help with the choice of Covenant for your class!
Covenant | Description | Class/role | Best for activity |
---|---|---|---|
Kyrian | Noble Kyrian are valuing following the rules and valor. They are not flexible in views, but have straight principles. | (Universal) Best Covenant for Priests, Warlocks | Mythic+ AND Raids |
Necrolords | Warriors of the Afterlife. Value power in all forms more than anything. Prefer to follow the principle of “survival of the fittest”. | Damage Dealers Hunter, Rogue | Raids |
Night Fae | They transfer nature souls to the personal realms to give them the possibility of rebirth. Merciful and kind Covenant. | Healers Best Covenant for Druids, Mages, Monks, Paladins | Raids |
Venthyr | Cruel punishers of those souls seeking for redemption. Their Covenant may seem to be an “evil” ones, though, without their work some souls would end up in the Maw. | Tanks, Damage Dealers Best Covenant for Death Knights, Demon Hunters, Shamans, Warriors | Mythic+ AND Raids |
3.) Rewards and Transmog
Covenants will ask you to work for them. To get some sort of rewards for your actions, you should earn the new currency called Renown. However, the mechanic of it is a bit different from classic currencies (by the way, each Covenant has its own Renown). You should not grind it like Azerite power: the key idea is to slowly get Renown in a weekly quest, and then receive rewards for it as for some new steps on a career ladder. Though, you may ask your friends from Leprestore to do all the business for you with Covenant Campaign boost service. Just ask us about it!
Wanna have a new title? Just gain 40th Renown level!
You can get the following things for Renown:
Renown can be earned from completing 2 weekly objectives: you should bring Anima to your Sanctum and recover Covenant souls from the Maw. In the in-game UI depicted above you can see that each Renown level reward can be easily seen there.
You will also get the new type of world quests “Covenant Callings”. They should be taken in Sanctum, and you can complete only 3 of them per week. They guarantee you quite a good loot, though, it is important to note that these quests have useful UI that will tell you, if you missed the Calling or not. Your alts will be able to complete these quests right from 50th level, if you have already finished the Shadowlands campaign with your main character.
Do not forget to finish your Callings! Losing good rewards is a crime.
All of these things are related to your Sanctum that acts as a new Class Hall, but for the members of one Covenant. Your Sanctum does not work quite well at the beginning of the membership in a Covenant, but you have to restore its areas functionality helping the local denizens. Each Covenant has Anima Conductor, Teleportation Network, Scouting Map and one specific Covenant area.
Transmog
You can obtain transmog armor that is unique for each Covenant and the type of armor (Cloth, Leather, Mail, Plate). Shadowlands Covenant Armor sets may become a desirable part of your collection, but you have to finish different chapters of the Covenant campaign to get the whole set.
We should also note that these sets are also available in other colourings. Some will be available to buy for Anima after reaching a certain level of Renown, while some you can buy for a little anima after the defeat of bosses.
You may also receive some Covenant cloaks and Mounts as the rewards for Renown levels and finishing in-game quests related to the chosen Covenant.

Ready for making a choice? Then you should take a quest from Tal-Inara in Oribos. After it, you should use the map on the table and choose the place for the upcoming WoW Shadowlands Covenant adventures!
