If you’re still unfamiliar with the Plunderstorm event, this is your final opportunity to earn all rewards before the event ends on April 30th.
On March 19th, Blizzard introduced patch 10.2.6 where it announced a new event, Plunderstorm. This is a temporary event that will take place from March 19th over the next few weeks. Depending on the positive feedback from the players, the fate of this mode will be decided, whether they will make full-fledged seasons with rewards, themes and other goodies and all sorts of good things.
Plunderstorm is a game mode with battle royale game mechanics for 60 players where each match typically lasts around 10-15 minutes. In this game, you’ll make your own character and explore the Arathi Highlands. Your goal is to find abilities, spells, upgrades, and loot to help you survive.
You can play solo or with a friend in duo mode. If you play solo, you’re on your own, but in duo mode, you can team up with a friend or get paired with a random player. The aim in both modes is to be the last one standing by defeating enemies and avoiding the storm that closes in. If you get knocked out, you can still watch the game through your teammate’s perspective. The map is small, and there’s a storm that damages players caught in it. As the game progresses, the storm grows, forcing players to fight in a smaller area until only one is left.
At the start of each game, everyone is shot out of a cannon and lands randomly. You can choose where to go while gliding, but your options are limited. Once you’re in the battlefield, your objective is to make your character stronger by defeating enemies, collecting skills and abilities, leveling up, and looting other players. As you become stronger, you’ll want to strategize and take fights when you have the advantage. The goal is to survive for as long as possible while having enough power to become the ultimate champion.
You don’t need to buy the latest World of Warcraft expansion to join the Plunderstorm event. However, you will require a World of Warcraft subscription to participate. If you already have a subscription, you can access World of Warcraft: Season of Discovery, World of Warcraft Classic, and the retail version of World of Warcraft (excluding the current expansion).
To play Plunderstorm, simply install World of Warcraft. If you’re playing the modern version of World of Warcraft, just hit “Play” as usual, then select Plunderstorm from the game menu. Create a new character and choose between playing solo or in duo mode. To play with your Battle.net friends, create a group from the Plunderstorm character screen and choose Duo mode. If you’re queuing for Duo without a partner, the game will automatically match you with one.
In the game, your goal is simple:
After creating your character and choosing either Solo or Duo mode, you’ll enter Brew Bay.Here, you can explore, experiment, and talk to the Renown NPC while waiting for 60 players to join your group.
Once the group is full, a countdown will signal you to prepare as a cannon lands on your head.
The cannon shoots you into the sky, where you land on a parrot and have a few seconds to plan your landing.
Once on the ground, the game begins. You start at level 1 with only your basic attack, heal, and possibly one escape item. There are 60 players, and the last one standing wins.
By the way, you will have to fight in the Arathi Highlands, which is covered in a storm
To progress, you need to:
You can try to hide, but the Storm gradually shrinks the playing field, forcing you to confront other survivors. If you die, you’re out. You’ll see your placement out of 60 and can watch other players or leave and try again. Winning awards you with:
These rewards last until you lose, so protect them. Winning also grants you the Plunder Wonder in World of Warcraft, a permanent reminder of your victory.
Note that you can earn cosmetic versions of the Plunderlord’s Monocle and Plunderlord’s Tabard through the Renown track, even if you don’t win.
In this mode, the skill panel and action bars differ from the usual WoW HUD. They’re more compact and have specific key bindings:
Your Experience Bar sits under the Action Bar, the minimap and quests are on the right, and the chat window is at the bottom left. You can open the map with M, interact with F, and ping with G.
You can personalize your bar by dragging and dropping Offensive and Defensive abilities. If you pick up an ability you already have maxed out, it replaces the old one. Duplicates level up your ability.
Plunderstorm offers rewards like mounts and pets for use in both WoW retail and Classic. The Renown track, Keg Leg’s Crew, unlocks cosmetics, pets, titles, mounts, and Traders Tender. Plunderlord Pepe is also available. If you want to see the entire list of awards, follow this link.
