Onyxia’s Lair is a raid for up to 40 players in Season of Discovery Phase 4. In this instance, your group will face only one boss, Onyxia.

Don’t underestimate her; your entire team will need to work together to win. Ensure all your DPS, Tanks, and Healers know their roles well. The raid has been rebalanced for SoD Phase 4 and includes new loot and class runes.

SoD Onyxia’s Lair Location And Entrance

Onyxia’s Lair is located in the southern part of Dustwallow Marsh in Season of Discovery. The entrance to the raid is in the Wyrmbog zone. To enter:

Alliance players should head to Theramore Isle, while Horde players should fly to Brackenwall Village. From there, move towards the Wyrmbog zone and find the entrance around coordinates 52, 75. This is where Onyxia’s Lair Raid starts.

The level requirement to enter Onyxia’s Lair during Season of Discovery is level 60, the maximum level attainable in this realm. At this stage, players are expected to be well-equipped, possess all necessary abilities, and understand their class capabilities thoroughly.

WoW SoD Access To Enter

To get attuned to Onyxia’s Lair in Season of Discovery, here are the steps for both the Alliance and Horde factions:

Alliance Attunement:

Dragonkin Menace: Kill black dragonkin (Black Dragonspawn, Black Wyrmkin, and Black Drakes) in Burning Steppes.
The True Masters: Deliver Helendis Riverhorn’s Letter to Magistrate Solomon in Lakeshire.
Marshal Windsor: Find Marshal Windsor in Blackrock Depths (BRD) and complete quests associated with him.
Abandoned Hope: Inform Marshal Maxwell about Marshal Windsor’s data loss.
A Crumpled-Up Note: Retrieve this note within BRD and return it to Marshal Windsor.
A Shred of Hope: Recover Marshal Windsor’s lost information from General Angerforge and Golem Lord Argelmach within BRD.
Jail Break!: Safely escort Marshal Windsor out of BRD and report back to Marshal Maxwell.
Stormwind Rendezvous: Meet Squire Rowe at Stormwind City gates to continue the quest chain.
The Great Masquerade: Accompany Windsor to Stormwind Keep and speak to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon.
The Dragon’s Eye: Find Haleh in Winterspring’s Mazthoril cave, activate runes, and complete objectives.
Drakefire Amulet: Defeat General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) and give the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion to Haleh for the Drakefire Amulet.

Horde Attunement:

Warlord’s Command: Defeat Highlord Omokk, War Master Voone, and Overlord Wyrmthalak in Lower Blackrock Spire (LBRS), retrieve Important Blackrock Documents.
Eitrigg’s Wisdom: Visit Eitrigg in Orgrimmar and deliver a quest to Thrall.
For The Horde!: Defeat Warchief Rend Blackhand in UBRS and return with his head to Thrall.
What the Wind Carries: Hear Thrall’s recounting of events and report back to him.
The Champion of the Horde: Find Rexxar between Stonetalon Mountains and Feralas.
The Testament of Rexxar: Deliver Rexxar’s Testament to Myranda the Hag near Uther’s Tomb.
Oculus Illusions: Collect 20 Black Dragonspawn Eyes from UBRS.
Emberstrife: Speak with Emberstrife in Emberstrife’s Den in Dustwallow Marsh.
The Test of Skulls: Defeat Chronalis in Tanaris, Scryer in Winterspring, Somnus in Swamp of Sorrows, and Axtroz in Wetlands.
Ascension…: Find Rexxar in Desolace and deliver your findings.
Blood of the Black Dragon Champion: Defeat General Drakkisath in UBRS and take the Blood of the Black Dragon Champion to Rexxar for the Drakefire Amulet.

Once you have obtained the Drakefire Amulet through these quests, you will be attuned to enter Onyxia’s Lair Raid in Season of Discovery.

WoW SoD Boss Onyxia

Onyxia – is the sole boss of Onyxia’s Lair. She is the daughter of Deathwing and sister to Nefarian, and she serves as the broodmother of the Black Dragonflight in Azeroth. While her father and brother lean towards brute force and creating abominations, respectively, Onyxia excels in subtle manipulation. She once held sway over Stormwind disguised as Lady Katrana Prestor until Marshal Reginald Windsor exposed her. She then retreated to her lair, defended by numerous Black Dragonflight members.

SoD Onyxia’s Lair Boss Strategy

Before engaging Onyxia, prepare your raid group with tanks, healers, and DPS equipped with necessary consumables like Greater Fire Protection Potions.

Onyxian Warders

Approach carefully, letting tanks lead to absorb Fire Nova.
Ranged DPS should provide cover fire while melee DPS move in after the Fire Nova to eliminate the remaining warders.

Phase 1 (100% – 65% HP)

Abilities:

Tail Sweep: Avoid standing behind Onyxia.
Wing Buffet: Manage positioning to avoid getting knocked back.
Flame Breath: Tanks should ensure no one stands in front to minimize damage.

Strategy:

Tank pulls Onyxia to the back wall.
Split the raid group into two halves on opposite sides.
Clear whelps with AoE spells as they spawn.

Phase 2 (65% – 40% HP)

Abilities:

Fireball: Ranged DPS should spread out to minimize damage.
Breath: Onyxia targets a direction with a frontal Breath attack; avoid it by moving out of the line.

Strategy:

Spread out to minimize Fireball damage.
Tanks handle whelps while DPS focuses on them.
Watch Onyxia’s position in the air to avoid Breath attacks.
Use Greater Fire Protection Potions to survive if caught in Breath.

Phase 3 (40% HP – Defeat)

Abilities:

Bellowing Roar: Periodic fear effect on all players.
Cracks in the Ground: Avoid these to prevent volcanic eruptions.

Strategy:

Tank pulls Onyxia to the back wall again.
Use abilities like Tremor Totem, Fear Ward, and Berserker Rage to mitigate fear effects.
Continuously clear whelps to prevent additional damage during fear phases.
Avoid cracks in the ground to evade volcanic eruptions.

Consumables And Potions

Flask of the Titans: Increases HP by 1,200 for two hours, enhancing survivability.
Greater Stoneshield Potion: Provides a significant armor boost for a short duration, reducing incoming physical damage.

DPS:
