WoW SoD Phase 4 Stratholme Overview

Stratholme is an ancient human city located in the north of the Eastern Plaguelands. Once a stronghold of Lordaeron, it was devastated by Arthas Menethil, who later became the Lich King. Despite being purged of undead once, it has again become infested by the Scourge.

Sections of Stratholme

Stratholme is divided into two sections:

Strat Live – filled with Scarlet Crusaders.
Strat Undead – filled with undead creatures.

Each section can be accessed from within the dungeon, but the Undead Wing has a separate entrance known as the Service Gate.

The Undead side of Stratholme features one of the game’s most iconic bosses, Baron Rivendare. He drops some very powerful items, including the rare Deathcharger’s Reins mount.

How To Get To Stratholme

Stratholme is located at the northern tip of the Eastern Kingdoms, making it a long journey for Alliance players. Both factions should aim to fly to Light’s Hope Chapel.

Horde – shorter flight from Undercity.
Alliance – longer flight from Ironforge.

How To Unlock Stratholme Undead

Entering Stratholme Live is straightforward, but accessing the Service Gate for Stratholme Undead requires the Key to the City, which drops from the first boss in Strat Undead, Magistrate Barthilas.

Process of Unlocking

First Entry – enter Strat Live and clear the dungeon to reach Strat Undead.
Loot the Key – obtain the Key to the City from Magistrate Barthilas.
Future Access – use the key to unlock several gates within Stratholme for easier navigation.

Layout And Navigation

If you don’t have the key, you’ll need to clear the Live Wing to reach the Undead Wing, which can be time-consuming for multiple runs. The Undead Wing is straightforward, but some backtracking is required to blow up crystals and reach the final bosses.

Service Gate Entrance

Initial Hall – a short hall with a gate at the end.
First Boss Encounter – magistrate Barthilas flees initially but is fought before Ramstein the Gorger. If entered from the main entrance, Barthilas will not flee and can be fought in the courtyard.

Gauntlet Area

Buildings – three buildings guarded by bosses, each containing Thuzadin Acolytes that must be defeated to access the final bosses.

Baroness Anastari: Located to the east.
Maleki the Pallid: Located to the northeast.
Nerub’enkan: Located to the west.

Final Stages

Defeat Barthilas – after all Acolytes are defeated, move north to defeat Barthilas.
West Gate – opens to a group of Abominations. Slay them to summon Ramstein the Gorger.
Final Boss – clear the rest of the trash mobs and proceed to the main crypt to face Baron Rivendare, the final boss.

Rare Spawn And Mini-Boss

Stonespine

Type – rare Elite Undead.
Level – 60.
Location – wanders near the passage to the ziggurat gauntlet.
Mechanics – no special abilities, but notable loot drops.
Tip – watch for surrounding trash mobs to avoid additional pulls.

Black Guard Swordsmith

Location – near Baroness Anastari’s ziggurat, which appears after interacting with Blacksmithing Plans.
Mechanics – similar to other trash mobs, they have no special abilities.
Item Drop – blacksmithing item.

Boss Strategies

Magistrate Barthilas

Encounter:

First boss if entering through Live Wing.
After the ziggurat event, enter through the service gate.

Mechanics: none.
Strategy: standard tank and spank.

Nerub’enkan

Mechanics: summons small adds.
Strategy:

Quickly kill the adds.
Standard tank and spank.
Clear the ziggurat and kill Acolytes to proceed.

Baroness Anastari

Mechanics:

Banshee Curse: Reduces hit chance.
Possess: Controls a player.

Strategy:

DPS quickly reduces the possessed player’s health to 50%.
Hybrid classes assist with healing if the healer is silenced.
After the fight, make sure to clear out the ziggurat and Acolytes.

Maleki the Pallid

Mechanics:

Ice Tomb: Stuns the current target for 10 seconds.

Strategy:

DPS manage threat as the tank can’t generate aggro during stun.
Clear the ziggurat and Acolytes after the fight.

Ramstein the Gorger

Encounter: Spawns after clearing all roaming abominations.
Mechanics:

Knockout: Resets the tank’s aggro.

Tank quickly regained aggro post-Knockout.

Baron Rivendare

Mechanics:
