WoW Dragonflight Profession Knowledge Points System Explanation

The Profession system in Dragonflight is a lot more varied and robust than in the previous expansions. All of the primary professions have several specializations, which allow you to focus on some aspect of the trade. For example, some specialization talents unlock new recipes, while others improve your efficiency with reagents.

To unlock the specialization talents, you will need Profession Knowledge Points. Each Profession has its own Knowledge points, which you will have to get separately for each Profession you have. They are not easy to come by, you can't get a lot of them fast, and once you spend them, you cannot respec your talents and get the Points back. It is meant to be a gradual process that feels more realistic and rewarding, at least according to Blizzard's idea of what "rewarding" is.

You can get the Knowledge Points from a variety of sources. Some of them are only single-use, such as Profession Masters, Faction Renown milestones, or hidden treasures. Some repeatable daily or weekly tasks will also reward Knowledge Points, if only a small amount at a time.
