To get the Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever, reach level 14 and complete the clue chain that starts in Westfall for Alliance or The Barrens for Horde. Both factions visit the two starting sites, then travel to Stonetalon Mountains, Stonewrought Dam in Loch Modan and Thoradin’s Wall between Hillsbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands. The last clue awards the reusable sleeping bag.
Why get it? Rest in the bag for three minutes to build three stacks of Well Rested, giving up to 3% bonus experience for two hours. The item itself has a one-hour cooldown. The chain also awards a 12-slot bag and other useful leveling supplies. It is a travel-and-puzzle quest, not a dungeon drop.
Current status: The route has been completed in the October 2026 WoW Forever beta (Patch 1.60.1, level cap 30). The game is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, so recheck any changed quest markers after launch.

WoW Forever Cozy Sleeping Bag at a Glance
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Minimum level | 14 to start the quest chain; this is different from the item’s item level. |
| Alliance start | Westfall, Alexston Farmstead, approximately /way 37 50. |
| Horde start | The Barrens, south of Camp Taurajo, approximately /way 46 74. |
| Final location | Thoradin’s Wall on the Hillsbrad side, approximately /way 87 50. |
| Bonus experience | 1% per full minute of resting, stacking to 3% after three minutes. |
| Buff duration / item cooldown | Two-hour Well Rested buff / one-hour sleeping bag reuse cooldown in the current beta. |
| Extra rewards | 12-slot Old Toolbox, quest experience and supplies including Student Fodder. |
Before starting, decide whether you want to collect the bag as you travel naturally or make a dedicated cross-continent trip. A level-14 character can accept the quests, but higher-level enemies, hostile territory and missed flight paths can make the journey slow. You do not have to buy anything to earn the item in-game.
Get the Sleeping Bag Your Way
The clues are free to follow, but the route crosses both continents. If you would rather spend your playtime leveling, compare the available help before committing to a long detour. Services are subject to launch timing and current availability.
All Cozy Sleeping Bag Quest Locations and Coordinates
Alliance and Horde use opposite starting orders. After the second starting site, the remaining route is the same. Coordinates are approximate map waypoints; look for the named object rather than expecting a quest-giver NPC standing in the open.
| Order | Zone | Where to Look | Object / Progress |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1: Alliance / 2: Horde | Westfall | /way 37 50, Alexston Farmstead | Burned-Out Remains among cart wreckage |
| 1: Horde / 2: Alliance | The Barrens | /way 46 74, south of Camp Taurajo | Burned-Out Remains at a burnt tower |
| 3 | Stonetalon Mountains | Trail near /way 50.9 52.3; camp /way 40.6 52.4 | Pocket Litter at the abandoned camp |
| 4 | Stonetalon Mountains | /way 39.6 49.8, ledge north of the camp | Mound of Dirt after a short climb and jump |
| 5 | Loch Modan | /way 49.4 12.9, Stonewrought Dam | Carved Eagle Figurine on a stone head |
| 6 | Hillsbrad Foothills | /way 87.3 49.6, Thoradin’s Wall | Climb the wrecked cart; find Messenger Bag and the satchel below it |
Waypoint tip: if you use a coordinates addon, paste each /way command only after reaching that zone. A zone-specific waypoint cannot navigate you automatically between continents. Without an addon, use the numbers as approximate map coordinates.
How to Get the Cozy Sleeping Bag: Full Quest Walkthrough
Step 1: Start With … and That Note You Found
Alliance: Go to Westfall /way 37 50, northwest of Moonbrook at the Alexston Farmstead. Search the broken cart for Burned-Out Remains and start … and that note you found. Travel to the scorched tower south of Camp Taurajo at The Barrens /way 46 74. Interact with the matching remains to turn in the clue and take Stepping Stones.
Horde: Reverse those first two stops. Start at The Barrens /way 46 74, then cross to the Westfall cart wreckage at /way 37 50 to continue. Both factions now follow the same chain.
At each start, click the wreckage itself; the item you need may be easy to miss among broken planks. This is a scavenger hunt, so do not spend time killing nearby enemies in hopes of a quest drop.
Step 2: Find Pocket Litter in Stonetalon Mountains
Head northeast of Sun Rock Retreat and look for the mountain track beginning near /way 50.9 52.3. Follow it around the mountain toward the abandoned camp at /way 40.6 52.4. On a crate or first-aid box you will find Pocket Litter. Interact with it to finish Stepping Stones and accept Scramble.
The camp can also offer Rekindle, an optional campfire side quest involving Simple Wood and Flint and Tinder. It is not required to obtain the sleeping bag, so do not mistake an unavailable campfire interaction for a blocked main chain.
Step 3: Complete Scramble at the Mound of Dirt
From the Stonetalon camp, take the path uphill to the north and find the small ledge near /way 39.6 49.8. The Mound of Dirt is on a reachable outcrop; approach the jump carefully. Click it to finish Scramble and pick up Wet Job. If you fall or lose the path, retrace the climb from the camp instead of assuming the quest object has disappeared.
Step 4: Find the Eagle Figurine at Stonewrought Dam
Cross back to the Eastern Kingdoms and head to the northern end of Loch Modan. At Stonewrought Dam /way 49.4 12.9, carefully step onto the carved stone heads facing toward the Wetlands to reach the Eagle Figurine. Click it to turn in Wet Job and accept Eagle’s Fist.
Horde players should plan the approach through Alliance territory; low-level characters may need to avoid guards and enemies. Use the dam’s ledges deliberately, since a bad fall creates unnecessary travel.
Step 5: Climb Thoradin’s Wall
Travel to the border between Hillsbrad Foothills and Arathi Highlands. On the Hillsbrad side, look for the damaged cart at approximately /way 87.3 49.6. The scattered wagon pieces form a route up into Thoradin’s Wall. Follow the climb into a tucked-away room, then find the hanging Messenger Bag near the outside edge. Interact with it to finish Eagle’s Fist and accept This Must Be The Place.
Step 6: Claim the Cozy Sleeping Bag
Do not leave Thoradin’s Wall after clicking the Messenger Bag. Search immediately below it for the Hastily Rolled-Up Satchel. Interact with that second object to complete This Must Be The Place and claim your Cozy Sleeping Bag. Confirm the item is in your bags before leaving; the satchel and hanging bag are two different objects involved in the last turn-ins.
How the Cozy Sleeping Bag XP Buff Works
The bag does not improve XP merely because it is equipped or carried. You must place it on the ground, move onto it and remain still long enough to gain Well Rested stacks.
- Choose a safe place outdoors. Avoid combat, hostile patrols and locations where the item cannot be placed.
- Use the item. Its placement takes a moment, and it has a one-hour cooldown between uses.
- Rest inside the laid-out bag. Stand on it and stop moving; your character will lie down automatically.
- Stay for three full minutes. Watch your Well Rested stacks reach three, giving 3% bonus XP.
- Continue questing. Current Forever beta documentation lists a two-hour buff duration, so you do not need to stand in the sleeping bag for an entire hour.
Do not confuse the timers: two hours is the current Well Rested buff duration; one hour is the bag’s reuse cooldown. The tooltip’s cooldown does not tell you how long the XP bonus lasts. The bonus is separate from the blue-bar rested experience you build in an inn, and the two mechanics can coexist.
Party members can also use a laid-out bag in the current beta. There is no need for everyone to place a separate bag at the same spot, although the item owner’s cooldown and rules for using the placed object still matter. If a party member cannot rest, try a safe valid outdoor location and verify that the party is eligible to share it.
Cozy Sleeping Bag Quest Rewards: More Than 3% XP
| Reward | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Cozy Sleeping Bag | Reusable source of the up-to-3% Well Rested XP buff. |
| Old Toolbox (12 slots) | An actual inventory bag reward from Stepping Stones, not the item that you sleep in. |
| Student Fodder | Consumables received along the quest chain; in Forever they restore resources, especially health, rather than providing the original Season of Discovery rested-XP reward. |
| Other quest items and choices | Depending on the step, current beta quest rewards also list potions, a weapon choice or small utility items. |
Student Fodder caution: some older writeups describe it as a source of instant rested experience. That description belongs to an older version of the item. The WoW Forever version is a recovery consumable. The exact total awarded along the route also differs between currently published reward lists; check the quests rather than relying on one promised stack count.
Is the Cozy Sleeping Bag Worth the Cross-Continent Trip?
It is most valuable when you expect to keep leveling over many sessions. The buff is reusable, stacks over three minutes and works alongside other eligible XP bonuses. For a character who is about to log off or who only wants a handful of levels, a long detour may not pay for itself immediately.
| Situation | Recommended Approach |
|---|---|
| Already traveling through Westfall or The Barrens | Start the clue chain when nearby, then finish the remaining stops along planned travel. |
| Low-level solo character without flight paths | Consider waiting until travel is safer; level 14 is eligibility, not a promise of an easy journey. |
| Leveling several hours across multiple sessions | Finish the chain and refresh the three-stack XP buff during natural breaks when useful. |
| Playing in a group | Share a placed bag when possible instead of disrupting the route for everyone to deploy separate bags. |
| Still optimizing the full 1–60 plan | Combine this item with quest routing, valid Cooking XP food and sensible dungeon runs; read our WoW Forever Leveling Guide 1–60. |
Do not assume a 3% XP modifier guarantees a 3% reduction in your real playtime. Travel, looting, downtime and quest turn-ins still decide how long it takes to level. The sleeping bag is a helpful repeatable advantage, not a replacement for a good route.
Common Cozy Sleeping Bag Quest Problems
- Can’t start the chain? Check that your character is at least level 14 and that you are clicking the wreckage at the correct faction start, not searching for an ordinary quest NPC.
- Next clue not visible? Look for small objects such as Pocket Litter, Mound of Dirt, Eagle Figurine and the Messenger Bag. The trail uses scenery interactions, not only highlighted characters.
- Campfire will not activate? Rekindle is optional. Continue north to Scramble if your main quest is already active.
- Can’t reach the final room? Start from the cart on the Hillsbrad side of Thoradin’s Wall and follow the climbing objects rather than trying to enter through the ground-level masonry.
- Final reward missing? Clicking the hanging Messenger Bag starts the last quest; the nearby satchel completes it. Inspect both.
- Bag doesn’t grant XP immediately? Stay still on the laid-out bag and wait for three separate Well Rested stacks; leaving after one minute only grants the first stack.
WoW Forever Cozy Sleeping Bag FAQ
What Level Do You Need for the Cozy Sleeping Bag in WoW Forever?
Level 14. That is the quest-chain requirement in the current Forever beta, even though the item’s tooltip displays an item level of 40. A level-10 character cannot normally begin the unlock chain yet.
Where Do Horde and Alliance Start the Sleeping Bag Quest?
Alliance start in Westfall at approximately 37, 50; Horde start in The Barrens at approximately 46, 74. Each faction travels to the other starting site before moving to Stonetalon Mountains.
How Long Does the Cozy Sleeping Bag XP Buff Last?
Up to two hours with three stacks for 3% bonus XP in the current beta. The bag’s one-hour cooldown is a different timer. Build stacks by resting for three minutes.
Does the Sleeping Bag Give Rested XP?
Lying in the bag counts as resting, but the visible Well Rested +3% XP buff is not the same as accumulated blue-bar rested XP. The two effects should not be treated as interchangeable.
Does Student Fodder Give Free XP in WoW Forever?
No. Current Forever versions restore health or other resources rather than giving the instant rested-XP benefit described in older Season of Discovery guides.
Can Other Players Use My Cozy Sleeping Bag?
Yes, party members can use a bag already laid out in the current beta, provided they can rest in that location. This helps a group refresh the XP buff without five separate placements.
Can You Get the Cozy Sleeping Bag From a Dungeon or Vendor?
The documented and repeatably completed Forever unlock is the clue-chain reward from This Must Be The Place, not a random dungeon drop. Do not assume an isolated beta vendor listing replaces the actual quest requirements.
