The Hellfire Torch is one of the most valuable hidden rewards in Diablo 4 Season 15. Getting it requires much more than simply killing a boss: you must unlock Tristram through Deckard’s Journey, collect three rare Prime Evil Splinters, turn them into Wirt’s Lucky Coins, and use a Coin to open the secret Echo of Tristram encounter.
Inside, Echo of Diablo, Echo of Baal, and Echo of Mephisto attack at the same time as the Prime Evil Council. Defeating the Council while reward-eligible gives you the Hellfire Torch Mythic Unique Charm, with its exact stat rolls and class-specific set bonus determined randomly.
Current data: Diablo IV Season 15: Season of Hell’s Legacy, Patch 3.2.1 with Hotfix 4. Guide reviewed September 27, 2026.
Hellfire Torch at a Glance
How to Get the Hellfire Torch in Diablo 4
The full Hellfire Torch route can be reduced to five stages. The important part is that Old Tristram and Echo of Tristram are two different unlocks: Deckard’s Journey gives access to the town, while Wirt’s Lucky Coin opens the actual Prime Evil Council encounter.
How to Get the Hellfire Torch
The full route is a hidden Season 15 chain. Unlock Tristram first, craft the Coin, then spend it at the fountain to open Echo of Tristram.
Hellfire Torch Requirements
Before spending time farming the three Splinters, make sure the character has access to the systems needed to finish the chain.
| Requirement | Why You Need It |
|---|---|
| Season 15 character | Echo of Tristram and the associated Prime Evil content belong to Season of Hell’s Legacy. |
| Seasonal introduction progressed | Deckard Cain, his Journals, and the relevant seasonal activities must be available. |
| Horadric Cube access | The three Prime Evil Splinters must be transmuted into Wirt’s Lucky Coins. |
| 10 Deckard’s Journals | Required to finish Deckard’s Journey and unlock Deckard’s Memory. |
| One of each Prime Evil Splinter | Terror, Destruction, and Hatred form the hidden Wirt’s Lucky Coin recipe. |
| Torment-ready endgame build | The three Prime Evils are fought simultaneously rather than in three separate encounters. |
Step 1: Unlock Tristram Through Deckard’s Journey
You cannot reach the Hellfire Torch encounter directly. First, collect all 10 Deckard’s Journals hidden across Sanctuary. The journals can be collected in any order, and a small marker appears on the minimap when you get close enough to one.
All 10 Deckard’s Journal Locations
| Journal | Region | Nearest Starting Point | Direction |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Kehjistan | Gea Kul | Head southwest toward the docks. |
| 2 | Kehjistan | Imperial Library | Only a few steps southeast of the Waypoint. |
| 3 | Kehjistan | Ruins of Qara-Yisu / Scouring Sands | Search the desert area toward the Vault of the Crucible side. |
| 4 | Hawezar | Wejinhani | Very close to the Waypoint near the Alchemist area. |
| 5 | Fractured Peaks | Nostrava / Lorath’s Cabin | Inside the familiar cabin area between Kyovashad and Nevesk. |
| 6 | Dry Steppes | Hidden Overlook | Southwest near the broken bridge. |
| 7 | Scosglen | Marowen | Search the western docks. |
| 8 | Scosglen | Braestaig | Head north toward Penitent Cairns. |
| 9 | Scosglen | Under the Fat Goose Inn | West toward the Fiefdom House / Oldstones area. |
| 10 | Fractured Peaks | Yelesna | Northwest into the Mistral Woods. |
Once all ten have been read, return to Deckard Cain at the Imperial Library. Complete Deckard’s Journey and enter the blue portal called Deckard’s Memory. It takes you to the Season 15 recreation of Tristram.
Step 2: Get the Three Prime Evil Splinters
The next requirement is one physical copy of each Prime Evil Splinter:
- Splinter of Terror
- Splinter of Destruction
- Splinter of Hatred
The main farming route is through the Hell versions of the three Prime Evil Waking Nightmares, which become relevant at Torment X. These are the endgame versions of the seasonal Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto encounters.
| Dungeon | Prime Evil | Associated Splinter |
|---|---|---|
| The Labyrinth (Hell) | Echo of Diablo | Splinter of Terror |
| Worldstone Keep (Hell) | Echo of Baal | Splinter of Destruction |
| Durance of Hate (Hell) | Echo of Mephisto | Splinter of Hatred |
Do not treat this table as a strict guaranteed drop assignment. Live Season 15 testing indicates that the Prime Evil encounters can produce different Prime Evil Splinters rather than being completely locked to their matching boss. The practical objective is simply to obtain one Terror, one Destruction, and one Hatred Splinter.
The drops are rare enough that this is usually the longest part of the Hellfire Torch route.
Step 3: Craft Wirt’s Lucky Coins
Take all three Splinters to the Horadric Cube and place them inside together:
- 1x Splinter of Terror
- 1x Splinter of Destruction
- 1x Splinter of Hatred
Transmute them to receive Wirt’s Lucky Coins.
The recipe is intentionally hidden. It does not behave like a normal recipe that you learn and then select from a visible crafting list. If all three correct Splinters are inside the Cube, the hidden transmutation becomes available.
No Stone of Jordan or additional crafting material is required for this recipe.
Step 4: Use Wirt’s Lucky Coin at the Tristram Fountain
Return through Deckard’s Memory to Tristram with the Coin. Find the fountain and interact with it to make the wish.
One Coin is consumed per portal opening. When the interaction succeeds, the fountain changes and a red portal opens to Echo of Tristram.
The fountain itself requires a Torment difficulty. Current in-game testing places the interaction threshold at Torment VI or higher. In practice, players farming the Torment X Hell encounters for the Splinters should already be beyond this requirement.
Be careful once you enter Echo of Tristram. The exit portal can be close to the entrance, and leaving the instance by mistake can force you to spend another Coin to return.
LepreStore can supply the Wirt’s Lucky Coin and clear Echo of Tristram for your Seasonal character. The base order guarantees the Hellfire Torch item, but its stat rolls and class-set affix are random unless a specific option is explicitly listed on the service page.
How to Prepare for the Prime Evil Council
Echo of Tristram is not three separate boss fights. Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto activate in the same arena, so a build that comfortably kills one Prime Evil can still struggle once their mechanics begin overlapping.
Before spending your Coin:
- cap the armor and resistances appropriate for the Torment tier you intend to use;
- bring reliable healing, Barrier, Fortify, or another form of sustained recovery;
- keep an Unstoppable, immunity, or emergency movement option available;
- avoid builds that lose all damage whenever they have to reposition;
- use wide or persistent damage where possible so you can pressure more than one target;
- clear inventory space before entering;
- if possible, practice the individual Diablo, Baal, and Mephisto encounters first.
A party makes the encounter considerably more forgiving because damage and boss attention can be distributed between multiple characters.
Echo of Tristram Prime Evil Council Fight
Move toward the center of Echo of Tristram to begin the encounter. All three health bars become active and the arena quickly fills with overlapping Prime Evil mechanics.
Keep the Whole Arena in View
Baal is especially dangerous when his lightning and tentacles are operating while another boss has your attention. Mephisto adds additional movement and area pressure, while Diablo can punish staying in one place for too long.
Avoid tunneling so hard on one target that you stop watching the other two.
Use Stagger Windows to Remove Pressure
All three Prime Evils can be staggered. If one boss is already low or enters a good stagger window, committing your major cooldowns to finish that target can be more valuable than spreading single-target damage evenly across all three.
There is no universal kill order that every build must follow. The useful priority is usually the boss your build can remove from the arena fastest without standing inside overlapping lethal mechanics.
Save Mobility for Overlapping Mechanics
Do not spend every movement or immunity cooldown on ordinary chip damage. The dangerous moments happen when mechanics from two or three bosses overlap and close the safe areas of the arena.
Persistent AoE, minions, damage-over-time effects, and builds that can deal damage while moving have an easier time maintaining pressure here than setups that require long stationary attack windows.
Hellfire Torch Rewards and Stats
Defeating the Prime Evil Council while your character is eligible for rewards gives access to the encounter’s main prize: the Hellfire Torch Mythic Unique Charm.
| Hellfire Torch Effect | Possible Roll |
|---|---|
| All Stats | +10–20% |
| Resistance to All Elements | +10–20% |
| All Skills | +1–4 |
| Unique Charm Limit | Can equip 1 more Unique Charm |
| Class Set | +1 Set Count to one randomly selected class-specific set |
The extra Unique Charm allowance is one of the most important parts of the item. Instead of forcing the Torch to replace your existing Unique Charm, it allows the Talisman to support another Unique alongside it.
Hellfire Torch Class-Set Affix Is Random
The final Set Count line is where players need to be especially careful when evaluating a Torch.
A Hellfire Torch does not simply add +1 to every class set. It rolls one class-specific set name, and the +1 Set Count applies to that set.
That means two Torches on characters of the same class can have very different value depending on their:
- All Stats roll;
- All Resistance roll;
- All Skills roll;
- class-set affix.
Getting the Hellfire Torch and getting a perfect Hellfire Torch are therefore two different goals.
What Else Drops From Echo of Tristram?
The Council can also produce a substantial amount of endgame loot, including Mythic items, but additional Mythic drops should not be treated as guaranteed on every clear.
You also receive the Standard of Heroes, a trophy-style item familiar to Diablo II players. Its current Season 15 description marks it as a trophy of defeating the Council; no important repeatable crafting function has been confirmed for it at the time of this review.
Prime Evil Council Loot Cooldown
This mechanic changed shortly after Season 15 launched.
On September 22, Blizzard fixed an exploit that allowed excessive experience and loot from the Prime Evil Council and stated that the encounter’s loot cooldown had been increased.
Blizzard did not publish the exact duration in the Hotfix 4 notes. Current live testing supports leaving a buffer between reward runs rather than opening another Coin immediately. LepreStore currently schedules repeat reward runs at roughly 20-minute intervals as an operational safety buffer.
Can Wirt’s Lucky Coin Be Traded?
No. The practical party interaction is important here: another player does not need to hand the Coin to your character.
The host who owns Wirt’s Lucky Coin spends it at the fountain and opens Echo of Tristram for the group. This is why a hosted Hellfire Torch run can skip the Splinter farm even though the Coin itself is not simply transferred to you.
Common Hellfire Torch Farming Mistakes
Using a Needed Splinter to Change Prime Evil Powers
The same Splinters needed by the Cube recipe are also usable seasonal items. Keep the three crafting copies separate until the Coin has been made.
Expecting the Fountain to Unlock Tristram
The order is reversed. Deckard’s Journey unlocks Tristram first. The fountain inside Tristram then opens Echo of Tristram.
Following Pre-Hotfix Fountain Advice
Many guides and forum posts published during the first week of Season 15 warned players that using Wirt’s Lucky Coin could simply destroy it without creating a portal. That was a real issue, but Blizzard fixed it on September 22.
Opening Another Coin Immediately for More Loot
The Prime Evil Council now has a reward cooldown. Wait until the character is eligible before using another expensive set of Splinters.
Expecting a Specific Class Set From the First Torch
The Torch has random rolls. The base acquisition guarantees the item, not your preferred set affix or perfect stat values.
Accidentally Leaving Echo of Tristram
Pay attention immediately after entering. Accidentally taking the exit portal can turn a long Splinter farm into another Coin requirement before the fight even begins.
Is Hellfire Torch Worth Farming?
The Hellfire Torch is valuable because several different bonuses are concentrated into one Talisman Charm: All Stats, All Resistance, All Skills, a class-set contribution, and permission to equip another Unique Charm.
For a character already established in Season 15 endgame, it is therefore more than a collectible from the Tristram secret chain. The extra Unique Charm slot and Set Count interaction can change how the rest of the Talisman is assembled.
The main drawback is the acquisition loop. Farming one Torch means obtaining three rare Splinters and spending a Coin, while farming an ideal Torch may require repeating the process because the numerical stats and class-set affix are not fixed.
Sources and Current Data
This guide was checked against the live Diablo IV Season 15 state on September 27, 2026. The route and mechanics were cross-checked against Blizzard’s Patch 3.2.1 Hotfix 4 notes, current Hellfire Torch and Echo of Tristram community testing, the updated Mobalytics Hellfire Torch guide, recent Deckard’s Journal mapping, and live LepreStore Hellfire Torch service data.
Where Blizzard has not published an exact value — most importantly the current Prime Evil Council reward cooldown — the guide distinguishes the official mechanic from community or LepreStore live testing rather than presenting an unofficial timer as a fixed Blizzard value.
