NEW WoW Forever Classes Just LEAKED? Blizzard Survey Tests 11 Class Concepts

WoW Forever new classes leak showing Tinker, Necromancer, Illusionist, Bard and other leaked class concepts from Blizzard's survey

A new WoW Forever class survey has triggered one of the biggest waves of speculation around Blizzard’s upcoming permanent version of Azeroth. Selected players accessing the WoW Forever section of the Battle.net launcher were asked about possible future classes, including completely new concepts such as Tinker, Illusionist, Necromancer, Bard, Witch, Warden, San’layn, and a mysterious rune-and-metal fighter.

The same survey also tested three classes already familiar from later versions of World of Warcraft: Monk, Demon Hunter, and Death Knight.

Important: these are not 11 confirmed WoW Forever classes. The leaked material comes from a real Battle.net survey, but the questionnaire itself warned participants that some concepts shown might not actually be under consideration. What leaked is Blizzard’s class research — not a confirmed development roadmap.

What Actually Leaked From the WoW Forever Survey?

The existence of the survey itself is well supported. Players reported seeing it directly inside the WoW Forever Battle.net launcher page, while others could not access it at all, indicating that Blizzard was targeting only part of the player base.

The questionnaire did not simply ask, “Would you like a new class?” It went much further.

Participants were asked what type of role they would want a future class to perform — including Tank, Healer, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS, and Support — before being shown detailed class concepts with descriptions, armor types, weapons, resources, potential roles, and example abilities.

Some of those descriptions were surprisingly elaborate. Tinker pilots could survive the destruction of their mech. Illusionists could potentially learn new phantasms by encountering creatures in the world. Necromancers could command several undead servants. Witches sacrificed their own health for powerful spells. Bards stacked songs to strengthen their group.

That level of detail is exactly why the survey spread so quickly.

But it is also important not to overread it.

What the Survey Tells Us What the Survey Does Not Tell Us
Blizzard tested 11 class concepts with players. That 11 classes are currently being developed.
Completely new class fantasies are being considered in research. That one of those concepts has already been selected.
Blizzard explicitly tested Support as a potential role. That WoW Forever will definitely receive a permanent Support role.
Later WoW classes such as Monk, Demon Hunter, and Death Knight were included. That those Retail classes will simply be copied into Forever.
Some concepts received detailed abilities and mechanics. That those abilities represent production-ready class designs.

All 11 WoW Forever Class Concepts From the Survey

Combining the leaked survey material with independent participant reports gives us 11 distinct concepts. One of them has appeared under several different names, which is why early discussions sometimes incorrectly counted more than 11.

Class Reported Roles Core Fantasy / Mechanic
Tinker Tank, Ranged DPS, Support Pilots a customizable combat mech and may survive after the machine is destroyed.
Illusionist Ranged DPS Creates mirror images and phantasms and may learn new creature illusions through exploration.
Necromancer Ranged DPS Raises multiple undead servants and uses corpses as an active combat resource.
Rune Master / Rune Knight / Metalborn Tank, Healer, Melee DPS Uses Titan-linked runes and transforms parts of the body into metals such as iron and silver.
Bard Support, Healer Stacks songs and performances to heal allies, empower groups, and disrupt enemies.
Witch Ranged DPS, Support Uses old magic, blood sacrifice, dark alchemy, Void power, and risky health-spending abilities.
San’layn Tank, Melee DPS, Ranged DPS Vampiric blood magic focused on life stealing, self-healing, and dangerous offensive buffs.
Warden Tank, Melee DPS A heavily armed Warcraft enforcer inspired by the Wardens associated with Maiev Shadowsong.
Monk Melee and healing gameplay shown A Forever interpretation of familiar Energy, Chi, martial attacks, and healing spells.
Demon Hunter Melee-focused gameplay shown Uses Fury, Chaos attacks, Demon Blades, and Metamorphosis.
Death Knight Tank, Melee DPS A level-one rune-based reinterpretation rather than a direct copy of the later hero class.

Tinker — A Mech Class With a Second Life

Tinker is one of the clearest examples of Blizzard experimenting with gameplay that does not currently exist in WoW Forever.

The class fantasy revolves around engineers constructing and piloting powerful mechanized suits. The survey describes Tinkers modifying their machines for different battlefield purposes, potentially allowing the class to function as a Tank, Ranged DPS, or Support.

The most unusual feature is the proposed “two lives” mechanic.

If the mech is destroyed, the pilot is not necessarily killed. Instead, the character is ejected from the machine and may have an opportunity to survive long enough to repair or reactivate it.

For a tank, that would create a completely different failure state from normal WoW gameplay. Losing the mech might temporarily remove the Tinker’s strongest defenses without immediately ending the player’s participation in the encounter.

The mechanic may never survive beyond concept testing, but it demonstrates that Blizzard was not simply showing players another Warrior with engineering-themed animations.

Illusionist — One of the Survey’s Most Original Ideas

The Illusionist is a ranged spellcaster built around perception, memory, mirror images, and recreating things observed throughout Azeroth.

One reported ability launches a multicolored magical attack with a chance to create a mirror image that continues casting at the target. Another lets the Illusionist instantly exchange positions with one of those images.

The standout mechanic, however, is the proposed creature-learning system.

The survey describes an ability that initially summons illusionary creatures to fight alongside the caster, while suggesting that the character may discover new versions of the spell by fighting creature types they have not yet learned.

That would make exploration part of class progression.

Instead of every important class unlock coming from a trainer, talent point, or item, an Illusionist could theoretically build part of its toolkit by traveling through Azeroth and encountering different families of creatures.

That kind of world-driven progression would fit particularly well with WoW Forever’s stated focus on making the world and the journey matter.

Necromancer — A Real Army of the Dead

Necromancer is one of Warcraft’s oldest requested playable fantasies, but the leaked version appears designed to separate itself from both Warlock and Death Knight.

The proposed class is a Cloth-wearing ranged caster focused on death magic, disease, corpses, and commanding undead minions.

Its reported Raise Dead concept can animate fallen enemies and allows the Necromancer to control as many as six undead servants simultaneously.

Those minions are not only pets. They can also become resources.

Corpse Explosion can reportedly detonate a nearby corpse or one of the Necromancer’s own undead minions for area damage.

This gives the class a potential combat loop based around creating, positioning, sacrificing, and replacing an undead army rather than maintaining one permanent companion.

That distinction matters because one of the biggest questions surrounding any Necromancer class is obvious: why isn’t this simply an Unholy Death Knight or a Warlock?

The survey’s answer appears to be scale. The Necromancer concept is much more explicitly focused on multiple bodies and corpse management as central gameplay systems.

Rune Knight, Rune Master, Runesmith, or Metalborn?

The rune-and-metal class is one of the strangest pieces of evidence in the leak because participants have reported several different names for what appears to be the same concept.

Names circulating in community reports include:

  • Rune Master
  • Rune Knight
  • Runesmith
  • Metalborn

The underlying description is much more consistent than the name.

The class is connected to ancient metallic arts and Titan-linked powers. Its practitioners carve runes into their bodies and weapons and partially transform flesh into substances such as iron and silver.

The proposed roles are Tank, Healer, and Melee DPS.

Reported example abilities include transforming a fist into iron for an armor-breaking attack, spending a Silver Rune to unleash a freezing metallic breath, and using creation-themed magic to reconstruct and heal allies.

Why the name matters: different names combined with apparently matching descriptions strongly suggest survey variants or possible naming tests. It does not mean Blizzard showed four separate rune classes, and none of the reported names should currently be treated as final.

Bard — The Bigger Story Is the Support Role

The Bard is built around songs, storytelling, performance, and empowering other players rather than simply maximizing personal damage.

The current survey reportedly positions Bard primarily as a Support and Healer.

One example song increases party attack and spell-casting speed and becomes stronger when repeated. Another provides healing while helping remove harmful Poison or Disease effects.

The survey even lists musical instruments alongside conventional weapons.

But the most important part of Bard is not the instrument slot.

It is the word Support.

Support was explicitly included as one of the possible roles players could select when describing what they wanted from a new WoW Forever class. Tinker and Witch were also shown with Support possibilities.

That makes Support one of the strongest design signals in the entire leak.

A true Support ecosystem would affect dungeon groups, raid compositions, class utility, buffs, encounter design, and potentially the balance between pure damage dealers and hybrid classes.

It is far too early to say Blizzard will actually do it, but Support is clearly being tested as more than a one-off Bard gimmick.

Witch — Power at a Price

The Witch concept combines primordial magic, ritual, blood sacrifice, alchemy, elemental forces, Wild Gods, and darker powers associated with Azeroth’s ancient history.

Its proposed roles are Ranged DPS and Support.

The mechanics shown in the survey repeatedly revolve around accepting danger in exchange for stronger effects.

A reported Cauldron of Menace allows allies to gain a substantial temporary damage increase while simultaneously causing them to take more damage.

Other abilities spend the Witch’s own health to attack or create minions.

A Void spell sacrifices health but can return significantly more if it kills the victim, while a Blood Golem requires the Witch to sacrifice part of their own life to manifest a durable melee creature.

This creates a very different Support identity from Bard. Bard appears focused on layered group enhancement, while Witch is closer to risk-versus-reward support.

San’layn — Blood Magic as an Entire Class

The San’layn concept turns Warcraft’s vampiric undead elves into a playable class fantasy.

The proposed class can potentially fill Tank, Melee DPS, and Ranged DPS roles and revolves around blood magic, stealing health, and balancing aggression against dangerous drawbacks.

Reported abilities include a ranged blood attack that costs the caster’s own health, a link that redirects part of incoming damage to an enemy, and a vampiric bite that temporarily grants increased attack speed and healing through damage dealt.

One particularly unusual drawback allows the victim to gain the same frenzy if the San’layn fails to kill it before the effect ends.

There is obvious thematic overlap with Blood Death Knight, and that overlap is already part of the community discussion.

It may even be intentional. A market-research survey can test similar fantasies against each other precisely to discover which presentation players find more compelling.

Warden — And the Survey’s Most Obvious Data Problem

Warden has an advantage almost no completely new class concept has: players already understand what a Warcraft Warden is.

Maiev Shadowsong established the archetype in Warcraft III as an elite Night Elf hunter and jailer tasked with pursuing dangerous enemies.

The Forever survey reportedly describes Wardens as armored enforcers who hunt criminals, monsters, and rogue spellcasters, with Tank and Melee DPS roles.

Then the survey gets strange.

In the leaked material, the Warden ability section suddenly repeats Blood Bolt, Blood Mirror, and Vampiric Bite — abilities already associated with the San’layn concept.

The person reading the questionnaire in the source video immediately notices the duplication.

Reliability warning: Warden’s class fantasy and reported roles appear usable for analysis, but its leaked example abilities should not be treated as reliable. The repeated San’layn abilities strongly suggest a survey payload mistake, placeholder data, or an incorrectly displayed variant.

This is also one of the strongest pieces of evidence that players are looking at early research material rather than finalized class sheets.

Monk, Demon Hunter, and Death Knight Were Tested Too

The survey does not only test new Warcraft fantasies. Blizzard also asks players about bringing classes from later versions of WoW into Forever.

Monk

The Monk concept retains familiar systems such as Energy and Chi, with example abilities including Jab, Blackout Kick, and a healing spell.

That makes the basic fantasy recognizable, but it does not necessarily mean Blizzard would import the modern class unchanged.

WoW Forever uses a very different progression model, combat pace, and class structure, meaning any post-Vanilla class would likely need substantial redesign work.

Demon Hunter

The Demon Hunter concept also retains familiar elements: Leather armor, dual wielding, Fury, Chaos attacks, and Metamorphosis.

The design challenge here is even more obvious.

Modern Demon Hunter is strongly associated with extreme mobility, rapid resource generation, dashes, leaps, and an overall combat speed that does not naturally match Classic-style gameplay.

Community discussions therefore frequently distinguish between wanting the Demon Hunter fantasy and wanting the Retail Demon Hunter toolkit copied directly into Forever.

Death Knight

The Death Knight concept may be the clearest example of Blizzard testing a reinterpretation instead of a direct port.

The survey reportedly describes a Death Knight that begins at level one, using Plate armor, runes, Runic Power, and Tank or Melee DPS gameplay.

It also specifically removes several abilities strongly associated with later Death Knights.

This fits WoW Forever’s progression philosophy much better than simply inserting the original Wrath hero-class starting experience into the game.

Five of These Ideas Already Appeared in Blizzard’s 2024 Class Research

This may be the most important context missing from many viral reactions to the new leak.

The September 2026 WoW Forever questionnaire is not the first Blizzard survey to test several of these class fantasies.

A class survey discussed publicly in December 2024 contained a much larger list of possible World of Warcraft concepts, including:

  • Tinker
  • Necromancer
  • Warden
  • Witch
  • Bard
  • Spellbreaker
  • Battlemage
  • Artificer
  • Gunslinger
  • Apothecary
  • Astrologian
  • and multiple other experimental concepts

Now Tinker, Necromancer, Warden, Witch, and Bard have appeared again in a survey specifically associated with WoW Forever.

That does not confirm any of them.

But repeated testing is more interesting than a concept appearing once and disappearing forever.

Concept Reported 2024 Research WoW Forever 2026 Survey
Tinker Technology, inventions, mech suits, protection/healing/damage concepts. Tank, Ranged DPS, Support with a much more detailed mech survival mechanic.
Necromancer Army of undead minions. Ranged DPS with multiple undead, corpses, Bone Spear, and Corpse Explosion.
Bard Song-based group empowerment. Support/Healer with stacking songs and musical instruments.
Witch Old magic, curses, rituals, darker natural powers. Ranged DPS/Support with health sacrifice, Void magic, alchemy, and Blood Golem.
Warden Armored hunter using iconic Warcraft Warden fantasy. Tank/Melee DPS enforcer concept, although its leaked ability data appears corrupted.

The safest interpretation is that these are persistent design directions Blizzard has continued to research, not that one of them has secretly entered production.

What Players Are Actually Debating

Reddit, Blizzard’s forums, and WoW Forever communities are not simply arguing over which concept has the coolest name.

Several larger questions keep appearing.

New Classes vs Returning Retail Classes

A significant part of the discussion centers on whether Forever should use its alternate development path to create classes players have never had before, instead of gradually importing Death Knight, Monk, Demon Hunter, and other later additions.

Other players like the established Warcraft identity of those classes but want them rebuilt around Forever’s slower, more RPG-focused systems.

New Class vs New Specialization

Necromancer creates the most obvious example.

Some players see enough design space for an entire class. Others argue that its mechanics could be incorporated into Warlock or Death Knight.

The same argument appears around Illusionist and Mage, Warden and Rogue/Hunter/Warrior, and several rune-based concepts.

Can Support Work in Classic-Style WoW?

Bard immediately revived one of WoW’s longest-running role-design debates.

Support classes can create interesting group dynamics, but players are already concerned about the possibility of them becoming either mandatory for optimized groups or too weak to justify a party slot.

The fact that multiple survey concepts include Support suggests Blizzard is at least researching the problem at a broader level rather than attaching the role to a single class.

How Far Can Forever Move Away From Vanilla?

This may ultimately be the biggest question.

Tinker ejecting from a destroyed mech, Illusionist collecting creature variants, Necromancer controlling six undead, and Witch sacrificing health for party buffs are all much more mechanically adventurous than simply giving an existing class several new talents.

Players excited about Forever’s alternate timeline see that as an opportunity. Players primarily interested in preserving Classic’s original identity are understandably more cautious.

The Five Strongest Signals Hidden in the Survey

  1. Blizzard is researching completely new classes for Forever. The survey goes far beyond asking about Death Knight, Monk, or Demon Hunter.
  2. Support is being tested as a real role. Bard, Tinker, and Witch all point toward gameplay based on strengthening other players.
  3. World-driven class progression is on the table. Illusionist’s creature-learning concept is particularly notable.
  4. Several ideas survived previous class research. Tinker, Necromancer, Bard, Witch, and Warden already appeared in Blizzard’s broader 2024 survey.
  5. The designs are still extremely early. Multiple names for the rune class and duplicated San’layn abilities under Warden are difficult to reconcile with anything resembling finalized production data.

Could One of These Classes Be Added at WoW Forever Launch?

There is currently no evidence for that.

WoW Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, and none of the 11 surveyed concepts has been announced as part of the launch class roster.

The timing of this questionnaire makes far more sense as long-term research.

Blizzard describes Forever as a permanent version of Azeroth built to continue receiving new stories, experiences, and updates for years to come. That gives the team plenty of room to investigate future classes without needing one ready for November.

In other words, even if one of these concepts eventually becomes playable, there is currently no reason to assume the survey is describing an imminent launch feature.

So, Did New WoW Forever Classes Really Leak?

The survey leaked. A confirmed class roster did not.

That distinction is the key to understanding this story.

There is now strong evidence that Blizzard asked selected players to evaluate 11 possible WoW Forever class concepts, and the level of detail gives us an unusually good look at the type of gameplay the team is willing to explore.

Some concepts are familiar. Others are radically different.

Tinker experiments with a second-life mech system. Illusionist potentially ties progression to discovering creatures in Azeroth. Necromancer treats corpses and multiple undead as rotational resources. Bard, Witch, and Tinker test Support gameplay. The rune class combines Titan lore with physical transformation. San’layn pushes blood magic into its own class identity.

At the same time, the survey explicitly warns that not every idea shown is necessarily under consideration, and the Warden duplication and unstable rune-class naming make the early state of the material impossible to ignore.

For now, every one of these should be labeled exactly what it is:

a Blizzard-tested WoW Forever class concept — not a confirmed upcoming class.

And that may actually make the leak more interesting. Instead of revealing one class, the survey reveals how wide Blizzard believes WoW Forever’s future could become.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are the 11 new WoW Forever classes confirmed?

No. The survey is real, but Blizzard has not announced any of the 11 concepts as a playable class. The survey itself warned that some ideas shown might not actually be under consideration.

Is the WoW Forever class leak real?

The leaked material comes from a real Battle.net survey shown to selected players. What leaked is Blizzard's class research and concept testing, not a confirmed release roadmap.

Which classes appeared in the WoW Forever survey?

Participant reports point to Tinker, Illusionist, Necromancer, Bard, Witch, Warden, San'layn, Monk, Demon Hunter, Death Knight, and one rune-and-metal concept reported under names such as Rune Master, Rune Knight, Metalborn, or Runesmith.

Why does the rune class have several names?

Different participants reported different headings for what appears to be the same rune-and-metal concept. That could mean Blizzard was testing names or survey variants, but no final class name is confirmed.

Will any of these classes be available at WoW Forever launch?

None of these surveyed concepts has been announced for the November 4, 2026 launch. For now they should be treated as possible long-term directions Blizzard is researching for Forever.
