WoW Forever mounts come from two very different kinds of progression. Your first everyday ground mount is part of riding training; additional mounts are earned from PvP ranks, class quests, faction supplies, the Legacy System, collectors’ activities and edition rewards. Those sources do not all have the same level, reputation or currency requirements.
Quick answer: WoW Forever has ground mounts but no flying mounts. Blizzard confirms that learning Riding grants a standard mount and shifts the main up-front cost into training. Final beta item records point to level 40 for +60% riding and level 60 for +100% riding, but Blizzard has not published the final trainer prices. Treat 20g and 200g item prices found in beta files as examples of optional mounts, not the cost of learning Riding.
Release status (October 26, 2026): The WoW Forever beta closed on October 23. Full level 1-60 progression is scheduled to launch November 4, and the final riding-trainer prices and late-game collection sources have not yet been verified in the live release. The guide below distinguishes Blizzard announcements, last-beta item data and launch planning.

WoW Forever Mounts at a Glance
| Question | Practical Answer | Evidence Status |
|---|---|---|
| Do you get a mount with Riding? | Yes. Normal riding training includes a mount. | Blizzard confirmed |
| Can you fly? | No flying mounts; plan for ground mounts and transport routes. | Blizzard confirmed |
| When is first ground riding? | Level 40, +60% ground speed in the last beta item data. | Pre-launch item records, not a confirmed live trainer check |
| When is faster riding? | Level 60, +100% ground speed in the last beta item data. | Pre-launch item records; values may change at release |
| How much is training? | The full final training price has not been published by Blizzard. | Unconfirmed; do not confuse with mount-item prices |
| Do special mounts need extra unlocks? | Often yes: rank, reputation, class quest, Legacy total or pack ownership. | Source-specific |
| Who can use Skyborne mounts? | Skyborne race access requires the Heroic Pack or a higher eligible edition; the Cerulean Prideclaw still requires Riding. | Blizzard edition rules |
Blizzard’s Deep Dive recap establishes the basic riding model; its What’s Next recap confirms no flying. The level and speed values above come from pre-launch client records rather than final patch notes.
How to Get Your First Mount in WoW Forever
For a fresh character, the sensible first goal is learn riding, not farm a rare drop. That gives you everyday travel speed without starting a second collection project.
- Reach the required level. The final beta item records indicate level 40 for the first ground-riding tier and 60 for the faster tier. The beta ended October 23 with a level-30 character cap, so the full trainer flow must still be checked after the November 4 release.
- Save gold for the riding trainer. Blizzard says the main up-front price is attached to training, and the mount is granted when you learn it. Do not assume the separate vendor price of a color variant is the whole training bill.
- Use the appropriate racial riding trainer. Check which trainer teaches your character’s riding type. The Skyborne have Galestrider Riding in the beta database; other races use familiar ground-mount families.
- Confirm your riding skill and mount collection. Learning a skill, owning a cosmetic mount, and being eligible to summon it are different checks. Do not buy a second mount because you have overlooked the one granted with training.
- Upgrade later. At the faster tier, verify your earlier riding requirement and the current cost rather than assuming an epic mount unlock is automatic.
Choose the missing step before spending gold. If your character is below the riding level, you need levels first. If you are eligible but short on gold, save through questing and gathering or compare a riding service. Paying for the faster riding tier does not skip basic Riding, and a Riding purchase does not include character leveling or a rare mount.
Pick the Step You Still Need Before Your First Mount
Learning Riding, reaching level 40 or 60, and saving the trainer gold are different jobs. Check your level and existing riding skill first; the offers below are launch pre-orders, not beta-character rewards.
WoW Forever Riding Cost, Levels and Speeds
Some guides reuse old Classic-era mount prices (around 80 gold for a standard mount or 900 gold for an epic mount) or guess new trainer fees from earlier expansions. Those figures are not official Forever riding prices. Blizzard has confirmed the new structure: most of the up-front purchase shifts into Riding training, which already grants a standard mount. The last beta client shows separate prices on some additional mount items, but it does not establish the final trainer fee.
| Tier | Last Beta Item Requirement | Ground Speed | Extra Mount Item Price in Beta | Trainer Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| First riding tier | Level 40 / Riding 75 | +60% | 20 gold for sampled color variants | Not officially finalized |
| Fast riding tier | Level 60 / Riding 150 | +100% | 200 gold for sampled swift variants | Not officially finalized |
Important: The 20 and 200 gold figures are sample vendor prices for additional mount items found in the beta client, not the full cost of learning Riding. The first standard mount is granted with training; an optional color or swift variant is a different purchase. The final live trainer screen takes priority over all pre-release guides and fan estimates. Source: September beta item-price analysis.
How Much Gold Should You Save?
Until the live trainer window is available, do not build an exact budget around Classic or Burning Crusade trainer prices. Keep a reserve for Riding, spell training and repairs while leveling. Check the actual trainer quote after launch before spending that reserve on gear; optional recolors can wait until the first skill is paid for. The Mounts Unlock pre-order covers the chosen trainer cost but does not level your character.
If you use a riding service: Self-play means training funds delivered by in-game mail for you to spend at the trainer; Piloted means the assigned player completes the trainer purchase on your character. A 100% Riding-only option requires basic Riding already trained; choose the combined option if both tiers are missing at level 60.
Does a Pre-Purchase Mount Skip the Riding Requirement?
No. Blizzard explicitly says the Cerulean Prideclaw included with the Skyborne Heroic Pack or an eligible higher edition requires purchased in-game Riding before it can be used. Those editions also unlock the Skyborne race and Zephras Isle starting experience; a standard subscription on its own does not include that extra race entitlement. Owning an edition reward and qualifying to ride it are different steps. Official edition details.
How to Get WoW Forever Mounts: Sources Compared
Pick a target based on the requirement you can actually finish. A purchase of riding skill is not equivalent to a month-long Legacy project, and access to a PvP mount vendor is not an automatic free mount.
| Mount / Family | What Unlocks It | What to Check | Current Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard racial ground mount | Riding trainer | Character level, skill and training gold | Training model official; levels from beta |
| Skyborne Galestriders | Eligible Skyborne race and racial riding vendors | Heroic Pack or higher, Galestrider Riding, standard vs swift tier | Race entitlement official; mount variants from beta items |
| Black War PvP mounts | PvP Rank 11 | Rank eligibility plus any vendor requirements | Rank requirement official |
| Spectral Bear | Account-wide Legacy reward track | Beta track shows 55 earned Legacy Points; item use requires Level 60 and Journeyman Riding | Reward official; threshold and riding requirements from beta data |
| Pack Kodo | Supply-faction progression and Merchant’s Favor | Exalted with relevant faction, 6,000 Favor, Level 60, riding | Beta vendor and item data |
| Forsaken Warhorse / Charger | Forsaken Paladin class quest progression | Eligible class, questline and level | Epic quest officially announced |
| Warlock Felsteed / Dreadsteed | Class-specific unlocks | Class, spell or quest requirements | Classic family; Forever specifics should be checked at release |
| Cerulean Prideclaw | Eligible Blizzard upgrade pack | Pack entitlement and riding training | Blizzard confirmed |
| Stratholme / raid rare drops | Eligible boss or raid content | Content phase, source and random-drop rules | Legacy sources known; launch access not blanket-confirmed |
Collector rule: ask two questions in this order: can I unlock this mount now? and can my character ride it? The first is determined by its source; the second can also require a riding tier, level, class or faction.
New WoW Forever Mounts: Galestriders, Devilsaur Models and More
Skyborne Galestrider Mounts
The Skyborne race introduces a new mount family rather than another recolor of a human horse or night elf saber. Skyborne access requires the Heroic Pack or a higher eligible edition; the ordinary WoW subscription does not grant the race by itself. The final beta database includes Empyrean, Regal, Stormy and Umber Galestriders, with Swift versions for faster riding. For example, Empyrean Galestrider appeared as a level-40 Galestrider Riding item from Zephras Isle.
Standard and Swift variants are distinct items. Unlocking Skyborne does not award every Galestrider color or the faster Riding skill; check actual vendor stock and skill requirements after November 4 rather than assuming every beta-listed mount is purchasable on day one.
Warden Sabers, Devilsaurs and Druid Moose
Other mount models discussed in the Forever beta include Warden Saber color variants, rideable Devilsaurs and Druid Moose. Those are useful leads for collectors, but finding a model in game files is not proof that a particular color can be bought, farmed or equipped at launch. We will not invent NPCs, drop rates or an unlock path for these families until vendors or quests are verified.
The name Druid Moose should not be confused with a druid class shapeshift. If you want Bear, Cat, Travel, Moonkin or the special Serpent look, our WoW Forever Druid class guide covers the class mechanics; those are not ordinary mount-vendor purchases.
Classic Racial Mount Families
| Race | Traditional Mount Family | Race | Traditional Mount Family |
|---|---|---|---|
| Human | Horses | Orc | Wolves |
| Dwarf | Rams | Tauren | Kodos |
| Night Elf | Sabers | Troll | Raptors |
| Gnome | Mechanostriders | Forsaken | Skeletal horses |
| Skyborne | Galestriders (new in Forever) | – | – |
This is the traditional family map, not a guarantee that every mount can be used by every race. Cross-race vendors, standing requirements and class exceptions should be checked for the specific mount before committing to reputation farming.
How to Get the Pack Kodo in WoW Forever
The Reins of the Pack Kodo is one of Forever’s more interesting collection goals because both Alliance and Horde characters can work toward a Kodo through the new supply-faction economy. The beta item record adds several requirements that are easy to overlook.
- Raise the appropriate supply faction: Azeroth Commerce Authority for Alliance or Durotar Supply and Logistics for Horde. Current item data lists an Exalted requirement with the relevant faction.
- Collect Waylaid Crates from eligible outdoor activities, fill or process them as required, and turn them in through the supply-faction system to earn Merchant’s Favor.
- Save 6,000 Merchant’s Favor in the final beta vendor list. Don’t spend it all on profession recipes if the Pack Kodo is your primary goal.
- Check the mount vendor: beta sources list Huey Sunnydale in Redridge Mountains for Alliance and Okamache in the Barrens for Horde.
- Meet the item usage requirements: the current Wowhead record lists Level 60 and Journeyman Riding.
These vendor and item requirements originate from beta records and must be checked in the release client. Merchant’s Favor is not Honor or gold; ordinary PvP and a full wallet do not replace crate turn-ins. The Pack Kodo service currently lists your faction’s Exalted reputation, level 60 and Journeyman Riding as requirements, so confirm eligibility and what the order covers before buying. References: Wowhead beta item and LepreStore Pack Kodo requirements.
If you would rather arrange the crate and reputation work instead of farming each step yourself, compare the exact included requirements on LepreStore’s Pack Kodo service. The service does not waive the game’s eligibility conditions.
Spectral Bear: Why 55 Legacy Points Is a Different Farm
The Reins of the Spectral Bear is an account-progression reward, not a dungeon drop. Blizzard officially lists it on the Legacy reward track. A beta image shows the mount at 55 earned Legacy Points, following earlier cosmetic rewards at 15, 25 and 40 points; those exact thresholds could still change.
| Beta Track Milestone | Reward | Evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 15 earned points | Replica Ironforge Air Rifle | Beta interface; reward official |
| 25 earned points | Spectral Bear Cub | Beta interface; reward official |
| 40 earned points | Spectral Bear Tabard | Beta interface; reward official |
| 55 earned points | Reins of the Spectral Bear | Beta interface; reward official |
Can You Get the Spectral Bear on One Character?
Not with the currently described launch challenges alone. Blizzard’s detailed Legacy explanation says one character can earn up to 29 Legacy Points, while the system offers up to 65 account-wide at the start. That is enough to make significant progress, but it falls short of the beta track’s 55-point bear milestone. To bridge the gap, players will need progress from additional eligible characters, unless Blizzard changes the challenge distribution or threshold.
There is another distinction: 16 spendable perk points per character is not a 16-point limit on Legacy rewards. Legacy Challenges continue adding earned points even after a character’s perk-spending cap is reached. Never subtract spent perk points from your progress toward a cosmetic milestone. Blizzard confirms the Legacy Challenge categories and point totals.
Start with the WoW Forever Legacy System Guide to count unfinished class, tradeskill, exploration, dungeon and PvP challenges. Raid and seasonal PvP points cannot all be completed on launch day. If the bear is your goal rather than the full Legacy system, the Spectral Bear service covers that specific track as a launch pre-order. Check which challenges remain and remember that the current mount item also requires level 60 and Journeyman Riding to use.
PvP Mounts: The Rank 11 Unlock
Blizzard’s October 7 PvP announcement lists mounts at PvP Rank 11. Alliance characters reach the Commander rank and Horde characters reach Lieutenant General. You advance ranks using Rank Points, whereas Honor is a currency for eligible PvP purchases. Reaching Rank 11 makes rewards accessible; it should not be mistaken for an automatic delivery of every Black War mount.
That makes Rank 11 a useful target for mount collectors who do not need Rank 14 weapons. Ranks are gated by weekly seasonal progression, so Rank 11 is not a guaranteed first-week reward, even for players who farm Honor heavily. Check the mount vendor and current rank cap before committing to a longer route. See Blizzard’s official reward table, the WoW Forever PvP Rank System Guide for weekly progression and the PvP services hub for the corresponding service.
Paladin and Warlock Class Mounts
Class mounts aren’t vendor recolors; you need the appropriate class and its own progression route. For Paladins, Blizzard has specifically announced a new Forsaken epic Charger quest at level 60, with a Retribution-themed story distinct from the Alliance Redemption version. That is a confirmed Forever-specific class moment, not a guessed reward from an unverified datamine.
Forsaken Paladins also have a lower-level Warhorse progression route in beta materials. For the exact included quest work, see the separate Forsaken Warhorse and Forsaken Charger service descriptions; these do not make the mounts available to other classes.
Warlocks retain their familiar Felsteed / Dreadsteed identity, though final Forever-specific spell and quest requirements should be checked on the live build. Do not budget an ordinary racial mount purchase for a character whose intended transport comes from a class route instead.

Rare Dungeon and Raid Mounts: What Is Actually Available?
Long-term collectors will recognize familiar pursuits such as Deathcharger’s Reins from Stratholme, the Zul’Gurub tiger and raptor, and the Qiraji Battle Tanks. Their names and older-game acquisition histories are useful, but a familiar mount appearing in a Forever database does not prove that its source will be open on November 4.
| Collector Target | Legacy Source To Investigate | Forever Planning Note |
|---|---|---|
| Deathcharger’s Reins | Baron Rivendare, Stratholme | Check the live dungeon drop table; no guaranteed attempts |
| Swift Zulian Tiger | High Priest Thekal, Zul’Gurub | Confirm the raid’s release phase before planning a farm |
| Swift Razzashi Raptor | Bloodlord Mandokir, Zul’Gurub | Raid availability and loot may differ from Classic |
| Qiraji Battle Tanks | Ahn’Qiraj activities | Raid-restricted and event-specific rules require verification |
| Winterspring Frostsaber | Wintersaber Trainers reputation | Check the last beta reputation data against launch riding and vendor conditions |
Blizzard’s roadmap names December 9, 2026 for the first new raid unlocks and says other raids will be added later. It has not promised that every historical rare-mount raid will be farmable at launch. Beware guides that silently apply the final Classic raid roster to Forever’s opening week. Official roadmap.
Likewise, a low drop rate makes a farm unpredictable; it does not turn a named boss into a guaranteed mount source on each run. Save your attempts and plan around what is actually open.
Are WoW Forever Mounts Account-Wide?
Blizzard says collections and Legacy Points are shared across the non-Hardcore rulesets. However, a shared mount collection is not the same as universal permission to ride an individual mount: level, skill, class, race and faction restrictions may still matter.
Hardcore sharing is one-way. Rewards earned in Hardcore may carry outward to other rulesets, but Normal, PvP, Roleplaying and the newly confirmed Roleplay-PvP launch ruleset do not send their collections or progress back into Hardcore. Hardcore itself is planned for a later update, not November 4. See Blizzard’s October 22 ruleset update.
Which WoW Forever Mount Should You Go For First?
The best target depends on the reason you want it. Here’s the shortest decision path without doing unrelated grinds:
| Your Goal | First Check | Best Route |
|---|---|---|
| Stop traveling on foot | Level and available training gold | Learn riding and claim its bundled mount |
| Ride faster at max level | Existing basic riding tier | Train the faster tier before buying a new cosmetic skin |
| Get a new Skyborne look | Skyborne eligibility, Galestrider Riding and vendor | Choose a standard or Swift Galestrider color |
| Collect a faction-supply trophy | Reputation, Merchant’s Favor, level, skill | Build toward Pack Kodo |
| Finish a long-term account goal | Earned Legacy Points and unfinished challenges across characters | Plan the Spectral Bear reward track |
| Ride a PvP mount | Current PvP rank and reward vendor | Target Rank 11 and the purchase requirements |
| Get a class-specific mount | Class eligibility and quest completion | Complete the relevant class quest |
| Chase the rarest appearance | Content availability and repeatable attempts | Check current dungeon / raid release before farming |
For most new characters the ordinary mount wins because it speeds up everything else. Once you already ride, spend time on the collectible that matches activities you actually enjoy – battlegrounds, professions, class story or raids.
Choose The Mount Progress You Actually Need
Riding training, faction currency and the Legacy reward track solve different problems. Pick the path that matches your character and confirm launch availability before ordering.
WoW Forever Mounts FAQ
What Level Can You Get a Mount in WoW Forever?
The final October beta item data points to level 40 for standard +60% Riding and level 60 for +100% Riding. The beta closed October 23, and the exact live trainer requirements must be checked when the full game launches November 4.
How Much Does a Mount Cost in WoW Forever?
Blizzard has confirmed the cost model but not final trainer totals. Some beta mount items are priced at 20 gold or 200 gold, depending on tier; that does not equal the entire bill for riding training. Your first mount comes with the trained skill.
Does WoW Forever Have Flying Mounts?
No. Blizzard explicitly rules out flying mounts for Forever. A winged mount appearance is not permission to fly over Azeroth.
Do the Skyborne Edition Mounts Bypass Riding?
No. Blizzard specifically says the Cerulean Prideclaw requires in-game riding training before it can be used. Edition ownership and riding eligibility are separate.
Can I Get the Spectral Bear on One Character?
Not through the launch challenge distribution described by Blizzard, if the 55-point beta milestone stays unchanged. Blizzard’s published single-character maximum is 29 earned points, so the 55-point goal requires account progress from additional characters.
Can Alliance Players Obtain Pack Kodo?
Yes, according to the final beta supply-faction records. Alliance characters use Azeroth Commerce Authority, while Horde characters use Durotar Supply and Logistics. The beta item lists Level 60, Journeyman Riding, a relevant Exalted reputation and 6,000 Merchant’s Favor; confirm the vendor in the release client.
What PvP Rank Unlocks Mounts?
Rank 11. Blizzard’s official reward list places mounts at that rank. Rank progress unlocks access; additional purchase requirements may remain.
Are All New Mounts Available at Launch?
No complete day-one unlock list has been confirmed. A model or vendor item found in beta files does not prove its quest, raid or source will be accessible on November 4. Check the release phase, item requirements and actual vendor or boss before investing in a long farm.
Does Riding Unlock Also Level My Character?
No. The Riding service covers the chosen training and its included mount, not the character levels. The 100% option requires the 60% tier first; the separate combined option covers both if your level-60 character has neither.
Are PvP Rank 11 Mounts Automatically Granted?
No. Rank 11 unlocks purchase eligibility, not a free instant mount. Earn Rank Points within the weekly cap and check Honor or other vendor requirements for the specific mount.
Current Status And Sources
Last reviewed: October 26, 2026. The WoW Forever beta ended October 23; the full level-60 release is scheduled for November 4. Blizzard has confirmed the Riding-includes-a-mount model, no flying, Cerulean Prideclaw skill requirements, Legacy reward types, PvP Rank 11 mounts and the launch Roleplay-PvP ruleset. Not yet release-tested: final trainer prices, exact live mount-item levels, some vendors and colors, Pack Kodo stock and price, the beta reward track’s 55-point threshold, and later-phase boss drops. Check the release-client requirements as new vendors, achievements and raids become available.
