The WoW Forever Legacy System turns class leveling, crafting, PvP, exploration, dungeons and raids into account-wide progress. At launch, Blizzard plans 65 one-time Legacy Challenges worth one point each. You can allocate up to 16 earned points per character across three Legacy Perk trees, while your total earned points unlock collectible rewards at 15, 25, 40 and 55. The final announced launch reward is the Reins of the Spectral Bear.
The distinction matters: 16 is a per-character perk-spending limit, not the maximum your account can earn. A point spent on one character does not disappear from another character’s available allocation or reduce your collectible progress. The Legacy System rewards multiple playstyles, but a player focused on one main can reach the initial 16-point spending cap without making nine alts. The full 65-challenge catalog is not a day-one farming checklist: raid objectives wait until December 9, and seasonal PvP milestones take additional weeks.
Launch status (reviewed October 26, 2026): World of Warcraft: Forever is scheduled to launch at level 60 on November 4, 2026. The level-30 beta closed on October 23. During testing, Blizzard granted all beta characters 16 Legacy Points to try the perk trees; that temporary testing grant does not mean new launch characters start with 16 earned points. The system below reflects Blizzard’s announced launch rules, while reward thresholds and beta-only numerical values remain subject to final client verification.

WoW Forever Legacy System at a Glance
| Legacy Rule | How It Works | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock | Earn your first Legacy Point, commonly at level 25, or from another eligible challenge. | You do not have to finish the main leveling journey to open the menu. |
| Earnable total | 65 announced initial challenges; each awards one point once per account. | Some require raids or later PvP weeks and cannot be completed on launch day. |
| Spending limit | 16 points per character at launch. | Different alts can choose different allocations from the same earned progress. |
| Perk trees | Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. | These mainly improve convenience, economy and leveling rather than grant endgame damage. |
| Reward track | Pre-launch milestones shown at 15, 25, 40 and 55 total earned points. | Spending points on perks does not subtract from your reward total. |
| Hardcore | Planned for a later update, with one-way sharing and 12 special challenges replacing PvP opportunities. | Normal/PvP/Roleplaying progress does not feed the Hardcore pool. |
Which goal is yours? A new main usually wants useful early Legacy perks; an alt-heavy player may naturally accumulate class points; a collector chasing the Spectral Bear needs the 55 earned-point milestone, not a 55-point character build. These goals require different routes and budgets, so decide before committing to lengthy challenges.
Choose How You Want to Earn Legacy Points
The 16-point perk budget and the 55-point Spectral Bear are different targets. Choose the unfinished challenges that fit your characters and available playtime. These services are release pre-orders, not completed beta progression.
How to Unlock the Legacy System and Spend Points
- Complete one eligible challenge. The usual first point comes from taking a class to level 25. An eligible non-gathering crafting profession at 150 skill or completing the world-map exploration challenge can also unlock the system.
- Open the Legacy menu. Blizzard identifies the Legacy shield icon on the game menu and the default Y hotkey.
- Select your character’s perks. Spend the earned account points in Professions, Adventure and Resourcefulness. A leveling Hunter and a crafting Mage can make different choices without using up each other’s points.
- Track the earned total separately. The rewards at 15/25/40/55 depend on completed challenges, not your current unspent balance.
Do not confuse Legacy Points with ordinary class talent points, Honor or PvP Rank Points. Talented, one Adventure perk, can shift when class talents arrive while leveling; it does not raise the normal level-60 total beyond 51.
Can You Reset Your Legacy Perks?
Yes. Speak to your class trainer to reset the Legacy points allocated on that character, then choose a new combination of perks. Blizzard temporarily reduced the cheapest Legacy respec to 1 silver during the beta and let the price decline by one step per hour. That was explicitly a beta-only testing rule, not a confirmed launch price. Plan the build you want before paying for a reset after November 4.
How to Earn All 65 WoW Forever Legacy Points
Blizzard divides the initial 65 challenges into six categories. Each named milestone can be credited once, even if another character repeats it later. The most efficient category depends on what you have already finished; points are not awarded just for gaining ordinary XP, killing any raid boss or running any random dungeon.
| Category | Points | Required Milestones | Main Bottleneck |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classes | 27 | 9 classes x levels 25, 45 and 60 | Leveling different classes |
| Tradeskills | 18 | 6 non-gathering crafting professions x 150, 225 and 300 skill | Recipes, materials and character profession slots |
| PvP | 12 | 5 rank milestones + 4 Exalted battleground reputations + 3 Field of Honor tasks | Season/weekly progression and reputation |
| Adventure | 2 | Full map exploration + Lord Valthalak questline | Travel and quest chain completion |
| Dungeons | 3 | Novice, Experienced and Master Spelunker groups | Complete each full dungeon bracket |
| Raids | 3 | Onyxia, Hyjal Summit and Barrow Deeps | Raid unlocks and complete encounter criteria |
| Total | 65 | All six categories | Account-wide collection goal |
Class Legacy Challenges: 27 Points
Each of the nine classes provides three unique milestones: level 25, level 45 and level 60. The eligible classes are Druid, Hunter, Mage, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock and Warrior. Reaching level 60 on a class also passes its earlier milestones, so a full set provides three points per class, or 27 across all nine.
If you already have a level-45 Warrior credited, leveling another Warrior to 45 will not create the same account point again. Continue the original Warrior toward 60 or switch to a class whose milestone is unfinished. Use the WoW Forever Class Tier List to choose an alt you would genuinely enjoy instead of rolling classes only for a checklist.
Tradeskill Legacy Challenges: 18 Points
These challenges count the six non-gathering primary crafting professions: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Each pays one point at 150, 225 and 300 skill, giving three per profession. Gathering skills such as Mining, Herbalism and Skinning are useful for materials, but they are not among the six skill-track categories granting these 18 points.
Characters can normally hold only two primary professions at once. Plan across your roster rather than assuming you can maintain all six crafting skills on one character simultaneously. A profession you already want for gear, consumables or gold is generally a better first milestone than a costly craft you will immediately abandon. For that decision, see our Profession Tier List.
PvP Legacy Challenges: 12 Points
- 5 rank points: reach PvP Ranks 3, 7, 10, 13 and 14 for one Legacy Point per milestone.
- 4 battleground reputation points: reach Exalted with the qualifying battleground faction for Warsong Gulch, Arathi Basin, Alterac Valley and the Darkspear Islands. The new Darkspear Islands factions are Darkspear Raiders (Horde) and Theramore Expeditionary Force (Alliance); use the in-game Legacy checklist to confirm the relevant reputation criterion.
- 3 seasonal points: finish the Legacy-linked Field of Honor Week 4, Week 7 and Week 10 journey quests.
Honor, Rank Points and Legacy Points are different progress tracks. Earning Honor from matches does not grant a Legacy Point every match. The account point comes when the specified rank, reputation or seasonal objective is completed. The weekly rank limit and Field of Honor calendar prevent an instant 12-point PvP clear; Blizzard says Legacy-linked seasonal tasks remain obtainable in future seasons. See our PvP Rank System Guide for the separate Honor/Rank Points rules.
Adventure Legacy Challenges: 2 Points
Explorer requires the full world-map exploration achievement on the same character. Lord Valthalak Laid to Rest requires the dungeon set questline that begins with An Earnest Proposition and ends with Saving the Best for Last. Simply discovering a few zones or clearing a dungeon that happens to appear during the questline is not the whole achievement.
Dungeon Legacy Challenges: 3 Points
The three Spelunker challenges each require a complete bracket of dungeons: Novice (level 15-25), Experienced (26-45) and Master (46-60). The criterion is the required final bosses across all qualifying dungeons in that bracket, not one run of your favorite instance. This includes Forever’s new dungeons where they appear on the challenge list.
Before scheduling a run, inspect the current Legacy challenge checklist for missing bosses and instances. Some criteria can be completed while you level; the later brackets need stronger characters and the full release content. A targeted Dungeon Legacy Challenges service makes more sense than repeating a bracket that is already fully credited.
Raid Legacy Challenges: 3 Points
The raid category consists of Onyxia (one boss), Barrow Deeps (all eight bosses) and Hyjal Summit (all 13 bosses). Each completed challenge awards one point. Blizzard’s current roadmap schedules the opening raid content for December 9, 2026, not for launch day on November 4. Do not include these three points in a first-day Legacy plan.
If raids are your remaining route later, Raid Legacy Challenges is the dedicated service; its availability follows the raid release schedule.
All Three WoW Forever Legacy Perk Trees
Legacy Perks let you shape the same earned pool differently on different characters. The launch spending limit is 16 points per character. The perk names and use cases below follow Blizzard’s announced trees; specific rank-by-rank numerical values from beta data can still change before release.
Professions Legacy Perks
| Perk | What It Helps With |
|---|---|
| Working Overtime | Increases chances of a skill-up in tradeskills, including class-specific skills such as Lockpicking. |
| Bountiful Harvest | Improves scarce-material yields while gathering through Mining, Herbalism or Skinning. |
| Bartering | Reduces vendor purchase costs. |
| Performance Bonus | Can increase Merchant’s Favor from supply turn-ins with Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics. |
| Master Chef | Chance to produce extra Cooking results. |
| Luremaster | Chance to catch additional fish while using a fishing lure. |
| Dedicated Study | Tradeskill catch-up through a daily cooldown, with Elemental Essences after the relevant skills are capped. |
Adventure Legacy Perks
| Perk | What It Helps With |
|---|---|
| Well Rested | Builds rested experience faster and increases the stored rested-XP cap. |
| Thrill of Adventure | Provides Health and Mana recovery after eligible open-world killing blows; not a dungeon or battleground recovery engine. |
| High Alert | Improves Stealth detection outside battlegrounds. |
| Field Guide | Reduces the cooldown for placing camping features. |
| Field Medicine | Shortens the Recently Bandaged restriction outside dungeons, raids and battlegrounds. |
| Talented | Allows class talent points to arrive as many as five levels earlier while leveling, without increasing the final 51-point total. |
| Frequent Flier | Reduces flight-path travel cost and travel time. |
Resourcefulness Legacy Perks
| Perk | What It Helps With |
|---|---|
| Gourmand | Extends the duration of food buffs. |
| The Quick and the Dead | Speeds corpse runs and eases rebuffing after resurrection. |
| Reinforce | Reduces equipment durability lost from deaths. |
| For Great Honor | Increases Honor gains from PvP; it is not described as a direct increase to Rank Point earnings. |
| Permanence | Extends eligible party, raid and camping buffs. |
| Diplomat | Improves reputation gains. |
| Reagent Economy | Removes purchases of certain class reagents and Tier 1 camping feature materials. |
Which Legacy Perks Should You Choose First?
A full 16-point plan depends on your character and activity. The trees improve travel, recovery, professions, PvP currency and convenience; they are not a substitute for your class talent build. Start with the perk that removes your most frequent bottleneck:
- Leveling and alts: Well Rested is most useful if you log out between sessions; Talented brings class talent points forward; Thrill of Adventure helps with post-kill recovery and Frequent Flier saves travel time.
- Gathering and crafting: Bountiful Harvest favors scarce materials, Working Overtime favors skill-up progress, and Dedicated Study adds a daily catch-up option.
- PvP and reputation: For Great Honor increases Honor income, not Rank Points directly; Diplomat favors reputation milestones. Neither bypasses the weekly PvP rank schedule.
- Group preparation: Reagent Economy, Permanence and Gourmand can reduce recurring costs or buff-maintenance friction. Choose based on what your actual class and group use.
Do not copy a 16-point build solely because it is labeled “best”: rank costs, prerequisites and final client values should be checked in the Legacy panel when the game launches.
All WoW Forever Legacy Rewards: 15, 25, 40 and 55 Points
The collectible track uses total Legacy Points earned. A character with 16 points allocated in perks has not lost 16 from the reward track. The following four thresholds are shown in the pre-launch beta and are subject to final launch verification.
| Earned Points | Reward | What You Receive |
|---|---|---|
| 15 | Holstered Replica Ironforge Air Rifle | A novelty toy for air-rifle shootouts with other players. |
| 25 | Spectral Bear Cub | A companion pet, not a rideable mount. |
| 40 | Spectral Bear Tabard | A collectible cosmetic tabard. |
| 55 | Reins of the Spectral Bear | A rideable Spectral Bear mount; using it still requires the appropriate level and riding skill. |
How do you claim them? The pre-launch reward quests and item records point to Innkeeper Wiley in Ratchet as the reward contact. Recheck the live Legacy reward panel after November 4 before making a long trip. The Spectral Bear is an earned Legacy reward, not a random raid drop or an ordinary riding-trainer mount. Our WoW Forever Mounts Guide explains its separate riding requirement.
Best Legacy Point Route: What Should You Complete First?
There is no universally fastest 55-point route: character roster, profession materials, PvP weeks and raid release dates all change the answer. The useful first step is to count unfinished challenges and match them to your goal.
| Your Goal | Start With | Avoid This Mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Unlock Legacy and test a few perks | Your first level-25 class milestone or the 150-skill mark in an eligible crafting profession. | Assuming you must have multiple level-60 characters to start. |
| Work toward 16 spendable points | Stack class and crafting milestones you are doing anyway; add feasible exploration, dungeon or PvP objectives. | Treating the 16 beta-test grant as a permanent launch bonus. |
| Reach 15 or 25 reward points | Build several class/profession milestone chains that overlap your actual leveling plans. | Repeating already completed milestones for zero additional credit. |
| Reach 40 or 55 for collectibles | Count your roster-wide class and tradeskill coverage first, then fill gaps with dungeons, PvP and later raids. | Planning on 55 from one main or from raids that have not opened yet. |
| Already near a milestone | Target the specific unfinished points in the category you can complete next. | Buying or grinding a full bundle when only one missing challenge matters. |
Example: 16 Legacy Points on One Character, Without Alts
Blizzard confirms that one character can earn enough points to fill the initial 16-point perk budget. Here is one possible progression plan using the announced challenge categories. It is not a first-week shortcut: it assumes access to high-level dungeons and a PvP season that has progressed far enough for Rank 7.
| Unique Challenge Goals | Points | Running Total |
|---|---|---|
| Reach levels 25, 45 and 60 on your main class | 3 | 3 |
| Raise two eligible crafting professions to 150, 225 and 300 | 6 | 9 |
| Explore the full map and complete the Lord Valthalak questline | 2 | 11 |
| Complete Novice, Experienced and Master Spelunker | 3 | 14 |
| Earn the PvP Rank 3 and Rank 7 Legacy milestones | 2 | 16 |
This example requires no additional characters and no raid Legacy points, but its PvP steps cannot be rushed past the active season’s rank gates. If you dislike PvP, later raid or other available challenges can fill the remaining slots instead. Check the unfinished account-wide checklist before grinding a milestone again.
Blizzard’s own breakdown allows up to 29 points from one character across the relevant class, professions, PvP, adventure, dungeon and raid objectives. That can cover the 16-point perk budget, but it cannot reach the 55-point Spectral Bear threshold alone. A character may need profession changes, time-gated seasonal PvP progress and later raid access even for those theoretical 29 points; do not treat that maximum as an opening-week farming plan.
For collectors, a more useful comparison is how many unique points are still missing. LepreStore’s current Legacy bundle offers up to 15/33/57 new points with Rare/Epic/Legendary when every included challenge is unfinished. Legendary’s current product scope excludes raid challenges, Lord Valthalak, Rank 14 and the seasonal Field of Honor quest points. Those are separate goals, not quietly included extras. All Legacy services listed here are pre-orders for the November 4 release; beta progress and completion dates are separate.
Finish the Legacy Challenges You Actually Need
Already close to 55 earned points, or missing only one category? Check the specific requirement first. A bundle is not automatically better than a smaller targeted run, and raid and PvP time gates still apply.
Legacy Points and Hardcore Rulesets
Hardcore is planned for a later content update, not the November 4 launch. Blizzard’s published rule is one-way: Legacy Challenges earned on Hardcore also count for the other rulesets, but points earned on Normal, PvP and Roleplaying characters cannot be spent in Hardcore. Because Hardcore cannot complete the 12 regular PvP Legacy Challenges, Blizzard plans 12 additional Hardcore-specific challenges for its launch, alongside future perks. The exact Hardcore challenge routes should not be treated as playable before that ruleset opens. A non-Hardcore Legacy bundle does not automatically unlock Hardcore progress.
WoW Forever Legacy System FAQ
Are Legacy Points Account-Wide or Character-Specific?
Earning them is account-wide for eligible non-Hardcore characters, but each character allocates its available points independently. One character spending 16 does not consume the earned pool for another.
Can I Get 16 Legacy Points Without Leveling Alts?
Yes. Blizzard explicitly says a single character can earn enough for the initial 16-point allocation; its theoretical single-character maximum is 29 when all the relevant activities are available. You do not need 16 different characters, but you may need to wait for seasonal or raid content depending on your chosen route.
Do Gathering Professions Award Legacy Points?
Not through the six 150/225/300 crafting skill challenges. Those 18 challenges cover Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking and Tailoring. Gathering can still support crafting and benefit from certain Legacy Perks.
Does Talented Give You More Than 51 Class Talent Points at Level 60?
No. Talented moves talent-point acquisition earlier during leveling, potentially by five levels at its highest rank. It does not increase the final level-60 class talent budget above 51.
Can I Unlock the Spectral Bear by Spending 55 Points?
No. You unlock the bear by earning 55 Legacy Points in total under the current beta reward track. Spending on perks is a separate per-character action. The mount also has riding requirements.
Are the 16 Free Beta Legacy Points Available at Launch?
No launch grant has been announced. Blizzard gave every beta player the 16-point testing challenge in its October 8 beta update and temporarily reduced the minimum Legacy respec cost to one silver. Both measures were described as beta conditions, not launch entitlements.
How Do I Respec Legacy Perks?
Visit your class trainer to reset the perks selected on that character. The cheap 1-silver reset in the October beta was a temporary testing rule, so check the displayed gold cost in the live client rather than budgeting around beta prices.
Can I Earn 16 Legacy Points on One Character?
Yes. Blizzard says a single character can eventually earn up to 29 challenges across class leveling, two crafting professions, PvP, exploration, dungeons and raids. A route to the initial 16-point perk cap can avoid alts, but may still take time because of high-level dungeons and seasonal PvP gates.
Can I Earn All 65 Points Before the First Raid Opens?
No. Three of the original 65 challenges are raid clears, and the first raids are scheduled to open December 9, 2026. PvP seasonal milestones are also time-gated, so full completion is not an opening-week objective.
