To upgrade Tier 0 into Tier 0.5 in WoW Forever, begin the class-specific An Earnest Proposition route with your faction’s set NPC, exchange the matching Tier 0 pieces in stages, then follow Mux Manascrambler, Anthion Harmon and Bodley through the dungeon objectives to Lord Valthalak. The final class-specific Saving the Best for Last quest exchanges your head and chest pieces. You do not need to complete every alternate amulet-boss quest: Bodley’s objective branches by the version and quest offered to your character.
This is a pre-release route based on Wowhead Forever quest records reviewed October 28, 2026, not a claim that the November 4 launch client has been played at level 60. Forever already has revised dungeon-set bonus data, and its database also contains historical quest and item variants. Use the quest name, your class, faction, active objective and reward together when following the IDs below.
What Tier 0.5 Means in WoW Forever
Tier 0 is the original eight-piece class dungeon armor set. Tier 0.5, also called Dungeon Set 2, is the upgraded version earned through a long sequence of exchanges, materials and group objectives. It is non-raid equipment, but the route is not just eight boss drops. You turn in particular Tier 0 pieces at several checkpoints and receive upgraded pieces for the same slots.
| Upgrade milestone | Base pieces used | Upgraded reward slots | What advances the chain |
|---|---|---|---|
| First exchange | Wrists | Wrists | An Earnest Proposition with your faction/class quest |
| Mux’s device | Waist and hands | Waist and hands | Ghost-revealing device and Just Compensation |
| Anthion’s challenge | Feet, legs and shoulders | Feet, legs and shoulders | Stratholme rescue, Dire Maul materials, Theldren in Blackrock Depths |
| Bodley and Valthalak | Head and chest | Head and chest | Amulet fragments, Blackrock Spire finale, last class quest |
FULL SET and UPGRADE ONLY are not the same starting situation. A character with no Tier 0 pieces must first acquire the base armor. A character who owns it can concentrate on the quest chain and its consumable requirements. If you’ve already earned some upgraded slots, compare those with your remaining unupgraded items before organizing the next run.
Complete the Upgrade Chain or Focus on the Missing Pieces
First check your class, your eight Tier 0 slots and which upgrade quests are already finished. You can follow the route below yourself, or compare the published service options before committing to more farming.
Check Your Class Set and Existing Pieces
There are nine familiar class-set families. Use the Forever set records to identify the name and correct piece family, not as proof that the old set tooltip is final for launch. Each listed upgraded family contains eight armor slots: wrist, waist, hands, feet, legs, shoulders, head and chest. None includes a weapon, ring or trinket.
| Class | Tier 0 to collect | Tier 0.5 destination | Forever item-set ID |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warrior | Battlegear of Valor | Battlegear of Heroism | 511 |
| Rogue | Shadowcraft Armor | Darkmantle Armor | 512 |
| Druid | Wildheart Raiment | Feralheart Raiment | 513 |
| Priest | Vestments of the Devout | Vestments of the Virtuous | 514 |
| Hunter | Beaststalker Armor | Beastmaster Armor | 515 |
| Paladin | Lightforge Armor | Soulforge Armor | 516 |
| Mage | Magister’s Regalia | Sorcerer’s Regalia | 517 |
| Warlock | Dreadmist Raiment | Deathmist Raiment | 518 |
| Shaman | The Elements | The Five Thunders | 519 |
For a concrete item check, the Forever database lists Darkmantle Bracers (item 22004), Darkmantle Spaulders (item 22008) and Bracers of Heroism (item 21996). Their item IDs and slots identify specific historical set pieces; they do not establish that every older item stat or all old bonus thresholds are final in Forever. The class-wide set links above are a better way to check your own eight-item list than using a copied item-ID string from another class.
Set bonus difference: older Forever item pages may still print the Classic 2/4/6/8-piece bonus structure. Wowhead’s Forever datamine reports revised dungeon-set effects and thresholds, including different 3-, 5- and 6-piece effects for several Tier 0.5 sets. Datamined effects may change before release. Compare your current equipped pieces and the available bonus before replacing a strong mixed set with a full eight-piece outfit.
Tier 0.5 Upgrade Quest Chain Step by Step
Use the quest title and exact objective as your main checkpoint. Several entries share a name across classes or factions, so a single numeric ID is not a universal starting quest. The linked IDs below document named stages visible in the Forever quest database; your available class version determines its reward.
1. Start with the bracer exchange
Alliance: find Deliana in Ironforge at the High Seat. Horde: find Mokvar in Orgrimmar near the Warchief. For a Rogue on Alliance, An Earnest Proposition (8910) asks for Shadowcraft Bracers, 15 Winterspring Blood Samples and 20 gold, then awards Darkmantle Bracers. For a Horde Rogue, An Earnest Proposition (8917) instead requires 15 Silithus Venom Samples, Shadowcraft Bracers and 20 gold for Mokvar. These are alternatives for different factions, not two errands one character must complete.
You can begin preparing with the bracers even if you have not collected the other seven Tier 0 pieces. However, the later exchanges still require matching base items. Keep track of your exact class pieces instead of buying a different class’s cheap set as a substitute. Some Forever database entries use separate newer 841xx IDs and alternative reward items for the same quest names. Do not combine their reward choices or required materials with the 89xx route as if they were one additional step.
2. Build Mux’s device and exchange hands and waist
After the first hand-in, the recorded route sends Alliance on A Supernatural Device (8922), while the Horde counterpart uses A Supernatural Device (8923). Both lead to Mux Manascrambler in Gadgetzan, Tanaris. A supplied quest container is turned in; you do not need to farm a second copy of the first quest’s samples.
| Recorded stage | Key objective | Where to go next |
|---|---|---|
| The Ectoplasmic Distiller (8921) | Bring 1 Delicate Arcanite Converter, 4 Greater Eternal Essence, 10 Stonescale Oil, 25 Volcanic Ash and the recorded 40 gold fee | Mux in Gadgetzan |
| Hunting for Ectoplasm (8924) | Use the supplied distiller to collect 12 each of Scorched, Frozen and Stable Ectoplasm | Silithus, Winterspring, Eastern Plaguelands, then Mux |
| A Portable Power Source (8925) | Obtain a Magma Core from Magma Lord Bokk | Burning Steppes, then Mux |
| A Shifty Merchant (8928) | Obtain the Fel Elemental Rod from the merchant in Darkwhisper Gorge | Winterspring, then Mux |
| Just Compensation (Rogue Alliance example, 8935) | Trade Shadowcraft Belt and Gloves for Darkmantle versions | Deliana in Ironforge, or your matching class/faction quest NPC |
The Ectoplasmic Distiller is a quest item used near the correct enemies, not a normal loot drop. If you kill eligible ghosts without it positioned nearby, your quest may not advance. The distiller quest record lists 40 gold; the later imp merchant quotes another 40 gold for the Fel Elemental Rod in its dialogue. Treat these as separate stage costs, not as a verified all-inclusive Forever budget or a guaranteed launch-vendor price.
3. Rescue Anthion’s contact and defeat Theldren
The next path points to Anthion Harmon outside Stratholme, visible through the Extra-Dimensional Ghost Revealer from Mux’s work. In Search of Anthion (8929) is an Alliance recorded variant; 8930 is a Horde variant. Use your current quest to discover the correct contact.
| Quest | Objective and turn-in | Practical preparation |
|---|---|---|
| Dead Man’s Plea (8945) → Proof of Life (8946) | Rescue Ysida Harmon through the Stratholme Baron route, then return proof to Anthion | Take a coordinated dungeon group and carry the active quest; do not assume a regular clear automatically awards rescue credit |
| Anthion’s Strange Request (8947) | 3 Dark Iron Bars, 20 Enchanted Leather, 3 Mooncloth and 4 Cured Rugged Hides | Acquire the materials before leaving the capital or Auction House |
| Anthion’s Old Friend (8948) | Deliver the incomplete Banner of Provocation to Falrin Treeshaper | Reach the Dire Maul Athenaeum |
| Falrin’s Vendetta (8949) → The Instigator’s Enchantment (8950) | 25 Ogre Warbeads, then 1 Jeering Spectre’s Essence, 4 Dark Runes and 8 Large Brilliant Shards | Dire Maul/Blackrock Spire enemies, relevant spectres and reagents |
| The Challenge (9015) | Use the Banner of Provocation at the Blackrock Depths Ring of Law, defeat Theldren’s group, recover the top amulet fragment and return to Anthion | A prepared party, the supplied banner and the active quest |
After Theldren, the Anthion’s Parting Words class/faction quest exchanges boots, legs and shoulders for your upgraded matching pieces. For Rogue, the Forever database contains Alliance 8956 and Horde 9020. Keep your original boots, trousers and shoulders ready when you return to the set NPC.
4. Reassemble Lord Valthalak’s amulet
Continue through Bodley’s Unfortunate Fate to the ghost of Bodley by Blackrock Spire. This portion is longer than the first five armor upgrades and contains branch alternatives. The boss you summon for an amulet piece depends on the Components of Importance variant Bodley assigns.
| Order | Recorded quest | What the player needs to do |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Three Kings of Flame (8961) | Collect Incendicite of Incendius (BRD), Ember of Emberseer (Blackrock Spire), Cinder of Cynders (Silithus) and a Hallowed Brazier from eligible Argent Dawn vendors |
| 2 | Components of Importance (class/quest variant) | Collect the item your particular quest requests; this selects the next spirit boss |
| 3 | The Left Piece of Lord Valthalak’s Amulet | Summon and defeat the assigned boss with the quest brazier; return the left fragment to Bodley |
| 4 | I See Alcaz Island in Your Future… (8970) | Collect 20 Bloodkelp on Alcaz Island in Dustwallow Marsh for Bodley |
| 5 | More Components of Importance (class/quest variant) | Collect the second branch component to identify the right-side target |
| 6 | The Right Piece of Lord Valthalak’s Amulet | Summon the assigned spirit, combine the fragments into the complete amulet and return to Bodley |
| 7 | Final Preparations (8994) | Bring 40 Blackrock Bracers and 1 Flask of Supreme Power to Bodley |
| 8 | Mea Culpa, Lord Valthalak (8995) | Use the Brazier of Beckoning in The Beast’s chamber in Upper Blackrock Spire, defeat Valthalak, use the amulet and return it to his spirit |
| 9 | Return to Bodley (8996) | Speak with Bodley to resolve the remaining quest and obtain the follow-up |
Do not farm every possible spirit boss. The Forever database lists four possible targets for the left-piece quest and four analogous right-piece targets. Follow the name on your own quest rather than planning all eight separate summons:
Bodley can choose a different target for your second fragment. A spirit encounter from someone else’s completed run may not satisfy your own active quest. Bring the correct brazier, do not discard intermediate amulet pieces, and check that the objective updates before leaving the instance.
5. Complete the last class exchange
After Valthalak, return through Back to the Beginning to your faction set NPC: Alliance 8997 sends you to Deliana, while Horde 8998 sends you to Mokvar. Take your original Tier 0 head and chest items to the final class-specific Saving the Best for Last quest. The Rogue Alliance record 9004 exchanges Shadowcraft Cap and Tunic for Darkmantle Cap and Tunic. Your own class reward names will differ.
Blizzard identifies completing Lord Valthalak’s dungeon set questline as a distinct Adventure Legacy Challenge. Reaching the last exchange, rather than owning a few random Tier 0.5 items, is the relevant progression goal for that challenge. See Blizzard’s Legacy System overview.
Materials and Gold Checklist
Budget for the stage you still need, not for a second copy of the entire route. Some requirements are collected quest items, some are trade materials, and some are paid directly to NPCs. A market price from one realm is not a reliable total for a different region or launch day.
| Stage | Recorded materials and quantity | How to budget |
|---|---|---|
| First bracers, Alliance example | 15 Winterspring Blood Samples, base wrist item, 20 gold | Keep 20 gold ready; Horde sample objective is different |
| Ectoplasmic Distiller | 1 Delicate Arcanite Converter; 4 Greater Eternal Essence; 10 Stonescale Oil; 25 Volcanic Ash; recorded 40 gold | Check AH or your own professions for trade materials; Volcanic Ash is a gathered quest item |
| Hunting for Ectoplasm | 12 Scorched, 12 Frozen and 12 Stable Ectoplasm | Use the provided distiller in all three zones rather than purchasing a nonexistent fixed bundle |
| Anthion’s Strange Request | 3 Dark Iron Bars; 20 Enchanted Leather; 3 Mooncloth; 4 Cured Rugged Hides | Craft or purchase exact materials, then hand them to Anthion |
| Falrin’s tasks | 25 Ogre Warbeads; 1 Jeering Spectre’s Essence; 4 Dark Runes; 8 Large Brilliant Shards | Loot and trade requirements belong to separate quests |
| Three Kings of Flame | 3 named boss/elemental items and 1 Hallowed Brazier | The Forever quest text specifies Honored reputation with the Argent Dawn for the Hallowed Brazier; plan that access separately |
| Alcaz Island | 20 Bloodkelp | Gather from quest-appropriate enemies and sources, not an AH budget assumption |
| Final Preparations | 40 Blackrock Bracers and 1 Flask of Supreme Power | Check flask access and the active Blackrock Spire objective |
For example, a player who has already finished Anthion’s Strange Request should not buy a second stack of Mooncloth or Cured Rugged Hides. Keep the gold for a flask, the Hallowed Brazier and repairs. The same applies to saved base armor pieces and previously completed exchange quests. In the recorded chain, the 40 gold listed for the distiller is not the only possible expense; there is no verified all-inclusive Forever gold total.
Dungeon and Group Preparation
This questline uses multiple original-world dungeons. An ordinary full clear is not automatically equal to a quest-stage clear: you need the right quest, the right item or summoned target, and the correct hand-in.
| Dungeon or location | Tier 0.5 objective | Before your group enters |
|---|---|---|
| Stratholme | Rescue Ysida on Dead Man’s Plea; possible Jarien/Sothos spirit branch | Take the active quest, ghost-revealing item and a group ready for the Baron route or the assigned spirit |
| Dire Maul | Speak to Falrin in the Athenaeum; gather related items; optional Isalien spirit branch | Plan which wing and whether you need an objective or a specific summoned boss |
| Blackrock Depths | Theldren in the Ring of Law with the Banner of Provocation; Incendius item later | Carry the banner for The Challenge; don’t leave after a normal arena event without quest credit |
| Blackrock Spire | Emberseer, Blackrock Bracers, possible Mor Grayhoof, final Lord Valthalak in Upper Spire | Confirm the lower/upper section and the appropriate brazier; clear The Beast’s chamber for Valthalak |
| Scholomance | Optional Kormok spirit branch | Only schedule the summon if Bodley’s actual objective names Kormok |
| Silithus and Alcaz Island | Duke of Cynders objective; 20 Bloodkelp | For the Duke, arrange valid summoning supplies; for Alcaz, expect high-level hostile enemies |
Blackrock Spire is not a single quick pull. For Valthalak, the recorded quest places the summoning in The Beast’s chamber and recommends clearing The Beast first. Bring a capable tank, healer, interrupt and crowd-control coverage where possible, and make sure the character on the quest can activate the brazier. Do not rely on a fixed number of clears for random materials or assume every old dungeon timer is unchanged in Forever.
Tier 0.5 vs Other Pre-Raid Options
Dungeon Set 2 can be a useful goal when you already own several Tier 0 pieces, care about the class-set effects or also want the Lord Valthalak Legacy Challenge. It may be a poor first purchase for a character whose weapon, trinkets or role-specific off-set pieces are much weaker.
| Situation | Better next decision | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Most Tier 0 base pieces already owned | Evaluate the quest-upgrade route | Your remaining costs are materials, groups and quest objectives rather than every base dungeon drop |
| Only one or two Tier 0 items owned | Compare original-set farming with non-set gear | The full eight-slot route may be substantial if your character lacks key weapon or role-specific upgrades |
| One item slot is holding your build back | Compare a targeted pre-raid item instead | A class set is not automatically the highest-impact upgrade for your build |
| Interested in a Legacy Challenge | Track the entire Valthalak questline | The account-wide challenge names completing the questline, not merely equipping a partial set |
For a broader approach to quests, dungeon drops, crafting and reputation, use our WoW Forever Level 60 pre-raid gearing roadmap. Tier 0.5 is a particular chain with its own rewards and obligations; it is not a shortcut to guaranteed full PvE raid BiS.
Full Set or Upgrade-Only Assistance?
If you would rather arrange assistance than collect the base armor and quest reagents yourself, the two live LepreStore options solve different shopping problems. The Tier 0.5 Set service offers Full T0.5 Set when the Tier 0 base still needs farming, and T0.5 Upgrade Only when the full matching base set is already owned. It lists gold, materials and dungeon quest group work within the agreed package. The separate Tier Sets chooser compares Tier 0, Tier 0.5 and Hyjal set choices; its Tier 0.5 option already includes the base Tier 0 farm.
These are launch-dependent service offerings. If you have only partial Tier 0 pieces or have already cleared several quest stages, describe your exact set and progress before choosing a package. The published Upgrade Only option assumes the full matching Tier 0 set; it does not automatically become a discounted service for any partially upgraded character. Keep the purchase scope separate from the self-play objectives above.
Tier 0.5 Upgrade FAQ
Do I need all eight Tier 0 pieces before starting?
The first recorded An Earnest Proposition exchange requires the matching class bracers plus its materials, not every armor piece at once. Later stages demand the other base pieces. If you only own bracers, you can prepare the first exchange but still need the matching set items before completing the whole upgrade route.
Can I use another class’s Tier 0 armor?
No class crossover is shown in the documented exchanges. Each class quest asks for its own armor: for example, the Rogue Just Compensation record takes Shadowcraft Belt and Gloves and rewards Darkmantle. Buying a different class’s Tier 0 pieces does not satisfy that requirement.
How do I resume a partially completed chain?
Check the quest log and the last exchanged slots. If you have upgraded bracers only, inspect the Mux route; if you have wrists, gloves and belt, check Anthion. If you have five upgraded slots, check Bodley and the remaining amulet stages. Return to your faction NPC with the relevant base pieces rather than repeating finished materials quests.
Do I have to defeat all four possible amulet spirit bosses?
No. The Forever database contains alternative left- and right-fragment quests involving Mor Grayhoof, Isalien, Jarien and Sothos, or Kormok. The specific branch in your quest log decides which spirit you summon for the required fragment.
Are Tier 0.5 bonuses identical to old Classic tooltips?
Not necessarily. Older set/item pages show familiar 2/4/6/8 bonuses, while Wowhead’s Forever datamine reports revised effects and breakpoints for dungeon sets. These data are pre-release, so compare the actual equipped-set effect for your character rather than trusting a historical Classic screenshot.
Is Tier 0.5 automatically best-in-slot at level 60?
No. A set can help one spec while an available weapon, crafted piece or other non-raid item is a stronger upgrade for a different spec. Use its real stats and bonuses alongside your role and the gear you already own; raid gear is a separate acquisition category.
Can I buy Upgrade Only with just a few Tier 0 pieces?
The currently published Tier 0.5 Upgrade Only package requires your full matching Tier 0 set. If you have only some pieces or unusual quest progress, confirm the exact scope with support before ordering; do not assume a partial set meets that stated prerequisite.
