Soulbinds and Conduits in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands

Do you remember the Artifacts in Legion and the Heart of Azeroth in Battle for Azeroth? Excellent! Then you will easily get in touch with the concept of Soulbinds. WoW Shadowlands is not the exception, when it comes to the advanced system of endgame progression: the form of it, though, is quite specific.

Possible Soulbind “target” is an NPC that is valuable for your chosen Covenant. The Covenant’s Hero is some way! Your char may bind him or herself to these NPC in order to gain new powers (borrowed from the noble heroes). Well, yeah, you may say that in Draenor and Legion you have already been walking around with this AI guy from Garrison or Class Hall, though, here it is different.

Wrath of the Lick King is now live. If you want to know which class are the best in WotLK Classic – check out our WotLK Best Class Guide

Transmog is not the only lovely thing about Covenants. Check the Soulbind System!

You literally take the powers from the Covenant’s guys, and because of it your char now can use special enhancements through progression system with a degree of variety just like with artifacts in Legion. The access to the UI tree with traits you can activate (with so-called conduits, we will talk about it later) is granted once your soulbind with NPC is completed. Each hero available for Soulbinding is unique from the perspective of enhancements he or she proposes to your char (like the increase of Signature Abilities Power: to Door of Shadows or Soulshape, etc.).

Overall you can have no more than three soulbinds (with only one active in certain time), and below you can see the names and look of all possible heroes your char can borrow power from in each Covenant. They are shown in the correct order: you can enable only one of two first Soulbinds after you have joined the Covenant and completed their quest, and the third one will be obtained after the Covenant campaign is finished. In the Soulbind UI you can choose the tree branches of enhancement development and insert the necessary Conduits.

various soulbinds

Various creatures may become your Soulbinds. Choose the Covenant wisely!

How does the Soulbinds system work?

In your Covenant Sanctum there will be a thing called the Forge of Bonds. Here you can manage your Soulbinds (and only here!). This management consists of the following parts:

  • Choosing traits that are given in certain rows of the tree. Sometimes you will have to select the “path” of Soulbind development in order to form the unique build that corresponds to your style of playing;
  • Inserting the Soulbind upgrades called Conduits and lock the choices you have made.
  • Reset the whole tree in order to form a new build (by switching the Soulbind or resetting the active one).

Necrolords Soulbinds and Conduits

You can select 4 traits and insert 4 different Conduits in one Soulbind path (or build).

It can be seen that there are several rows that are present in this model (here it is the third or last soulbond): at first you should choose 1 trait out of two, then insert the 1 Conduit of a certain type, after which the Conduit choice is restricted. It repeats again at 4th row, where you have a choice of three different traits to select. Your choice will also define the type of Conduit you may insert in the row 5. After it, only once you have a choice again, at row 7, where you have to choose one of two traits.

These rows are not available per se. You have to gain Renown, the important reputation currency in your Covenant to unlock the traits or conduits rows in each Soulbind NPC. For different Soulbinds the amount of Renown will also be different. Have a look at the “Renown-rows” correspondence table.

Renown Soulbind Row
2 level First 2
4 level First 3
5 level Second 2
7 level First 4
10 level Second 4
13 level Second 5
16 level First 5
24 level First 6
27 level Third 6
28 level Second 6
31 level First 7
32 level Second 7
35 level Third 7
39 level ALL 8

We can see a gradual progression of available enhancements with the Renown level. But, what is more important, you should not forget that the development of your third Soulbind will start quite late, only at 27th level of Renown.

What are these Conduits?

In this article you have already seen them quite a lot in a relation to the Soulbind tree. These are items that upgrade your connection with the Covenant’s heroes through grating your certain bonuses of three different types:

    • Finesse Conduits marked with this sign utility sign are the ones that give additional utility to your char. Every class has four finesse Conduits.
    • Potency Conduits are recognized as damage/healing increase sign and they increase the spell damage or spell efficiency for Healers. Each DPS and Healer specs have four Conduits of this type, and Tanks have only two.
    • Endurance Conduits are the ones with the sign defense sign that allow you to increase your defense or health, for example. Each spec has three of it, while tanks have totally 5 Conduits of this type.

Wonderful news about Conduits! They are spec specific, and thus when you change the spec, they will automatically change their features a bit. Moreover, each Conduit has levels of upgrade, just as Essences in BfA, thus you may increase the power of the Conduits crucial for your build. Another good piece of news about Conduits is that they drop independently from other loot in such activities as raids or mythic+ and others. It means, you may not be afraid that during the run your desired loot will be contested by these conduits (though, we recommend you to have all the necessary gear with our Castle Nathriafull gear service in the Leprestore shop!).

If you want to upgrade a certain Conduit without looking for it in the activities, you may purchase Unbound Reality Fragment from Ve’nari, the Broker in the Maw location. To buy such upgrades you need the currency called Stygia, and it can be earned through completing World Quests in the Maw.

Now take a look at Leprestore’s tips and a brief review of every Covenant Soulbind in Shadowlands. It may be really useful in the endgame content, though, to reach it you have to be level 60 at least. Skip the leveling process with our Shadowlands Leveling boost, and then you may spend more time on Soulbind and Conduits progression through the Covenant campaign. There are many possible builds and branches for each class, so we have decided to give you our recommendations on every Soulbind in Covenants. Tune in!

SOULBINDS GUIDE
KYRIAN COVENANT SOULBINDS

pelagos soulbind

Pelagos

Pelagos is a very versatile soulbind you will get familiar with in the Elysian Hold. His first skill will grant you mastery every time you activate kyrian class ability. Then you will have three options. One will grant speed every time you kill something, while others are much better, as they either decrease Phial of serenity cooldown or make it heal more in exchange for overtime effect.

Next options provide rewards for killing enemies. First will reduce non-phial services of steward cooldown and second will give chance to get cloth or enchanting materials from enemies yielding XP or honor.

Last skill will give versatility up to 4% each time you use ability or spell without repeat.

Kleia

Kleia is clearly healer’s soulbind. Her first skill will stack an effect each time you or nearby allies make a critical strike. When any Nearby ally drops below 50% effect will heal him for 1% of health for each stack. First optional skill will give your allies bonus max health, while you are at 90%+ health yourself or enhance your Phial so that it gives you 8 sec immunity to certain negative effects. Bonus max health for allies is a choice here, without a doubt.

Next choice is between 10% max health shield granted when you are out of combat or 10% greater mounted speed when your health is 90%+. If you are going to raid or mythic+, always switch to shielding skill.

Lastly, there are three options: a chance to cripple enemy when using an ability or a spell, increased critical chance for each ally around up to 8% and improved healing when receiving or granting one for 70%+ health target, which is the most effective for healers.

Mikanikos

Mikanikos is a strange soulbind, which is more about weird mechanics than effective synergies with different specs. His first ability is to summon Bron every 90 abilities and spells used. Bron will knock enemies back on appearance and attack and heal your targets for 30 seconds after. Next choice is not a choice at all, as one of the abilities just uses Phial for you when you drop below 35% health. Therefore, just pick one, which knocks back all enemies each time you use Phial.

Next one yet again is not a choice, you either take less fall damage and less damage after taking fall damage or have a chance to improve item durability upon healing. Of course, it is better to take the first one.

Finally there are three options: to reduce stun and incapacitate duration, while standing still, to increase haste for every new damaged enemy up to 15% and to stun every enemy around, when health drops below 35%. the second one is for sure a better option for DPS, while the other two may suit tanks.

NIGHT FAE COVENANT SOULBINDS

night fae soulbinds

Niya

Niya may suit any spec, while not being the best soulbind for any. First ability gives stacks of effect randomly, when you damage or heal someone. Each stack provides 1% of max health and 25 mastery for 30 secs. Also, each usage of covenant class ability grants 8 stacks of the effect. Second abilities upgrade soulshape, either granting regeneration or reducing cooldown. Next choice is between obtaining leather, meat and fish or getting a movement speed buff after slaying an enemy. Finally, three last abilities grant a chance to inflict damaging effect after using damaging ability or spell, inflict a damaging effect upon interrupting enemy or a chance of inflicting haste buff after healing an ally. Last one will suit healers better.

Dreamweaver

Another rather versatile soulbind, which still has some better synergies with DPS and healers. First ability will resurrect you once in 10 minutes. However, resurrection will take 10 secs and, while resurrecting, an enemy can destroy a seed to prevent it. Next there will be three abilities to choose from: additional movement speed decrease after some of control effects dispelled or end on an enemy, additional versatility for you and two allies, which has cycling mechanics, and overheal transform into shields. Third one row of abilities includes an increased movement speed for an hour after 60 secs in rest area and fall prevention once per minute. Last ability will spawn an area of flower for 15 seconds each time the covenant class ability is used. Staying in this area improves haste.

Korayn

Korayn same as others Night Fae covenant soulbinds has no spec specific application. His first ability enhances damage and healing by 10% to targets with 75%+ and 35%- health accordingly. Second row of abilities boosts soulshape with a charge and stun instead of teleportation or with 10% movement speed increase for allies. Next two abilities either make your weapon lose no durability or increase the mounted speed of allies behind. Finally, three last abilities let your abilities decrease damage of target if it is in front of you, increase critical chance if you strike first or protect from 15% physical damage, while standing still.

NECROLORD COVENANT SOULBINDS

necrolord soulbinds

Marileth

Marileth is a strong soulbind for tanks. His first ability improves Fleshcraft near corpse effect, so that it creates for up to 50% HP shield. Second row of abilities contains abilities that create a 15% max HP shield when you are at 50% of HP, improves your movement speed for 10% and increases damage done to an enemy after the first attack by 10% for 10 seconds. While we strongly recommend to use this soulbind with tanks, the shield is a top option here.

Next two abilities grant opportunity to lockpick up to 60 level locks and give a chance to improve armor durability upon killing an enemy. Last skill is yet again the best pick for tanks. It gives regeneration an immunity to crowd control while channeling Fleshcraft, also if you channeled it for full 4 seconds, it will give you 4 more seconds of those effects.

Emeni

Emeni is a nice pick for both tanks and dps. His first ability increases primary stat each time Necrolord class ability is used, which is quite useful for any spec. First two optional abilities are Fleshcraft upgrades. One will grant you 5% bonus HP during channeling, while the other lets you move during channeling. Of course, bonus HP will better suit tanks.

Next two abilities are fall damage conversion into shields and additional hearthstone with new mechanics of teleporting to chosen spot. Hearthstone seems a nice timesaver, while the other is a little situational.

Three final abilities are additional movement speed for enemies around, increased haste for each slain enemy, fear nearby enemies, when HP drops below 20%. Every ability except the first one is worthy, however, the last one is a more universal pick.

Heirmir

Heirmir is nice with DPS and Healers, however it can be also useful for tanks sometimes. His first skill lets you live after death for 10 seconds healing and damaging for half as much. Next comes damaging ability or Fleshcraft cooldown reduction for kills. Both skills have their use cases, but for raid and mythic+ damage would be a better option. Third choice will be between mounted movement speed and chance for gem and ore drops from enemies. Finally, there are abilities which grant you movement speed for damaging or healing those below 35% HP, increased crit chance after 10 crit strikes and regeneration for every killed enemy. Second one is more consistent, third one suits tanks better, while first one is pretty much useless.

VENTHYR COVENANT SOULBINDS

venthyr soulbinds

Nadjia

Nadjia is a nice option for both DPS and tank specs, maybe a little better for DPS. Her fixed abilities will grant you Haste and more loot, which are pretty simple, while her optional abilities are a little more complicated. Firstly, you will need to choose between additional movement speed and enemy disorientation after you use Door of shadows. We strongly recommend you to pick disorientation one by default. However, certain raids and mythic+ may require MS as a higher priority.

Secondly, there are options of defence against some control effects, upgrade for well fed, flask and weapon enchantment effects and better damage and defence during “duels”. This one is trickier, you may opt for any of those depending on activity you are going to engage into.

Theotar

Theotar seems a bit underpowered in comparison to other soulbinds of venthyr. He has only one fixed ability, which grants you a chance to summon minions, when you use an ability or a spell. Two options you will have first are either freeing from roots or snares after using Door of shadows or having two charges of it but with a 30 secs greater cooldown. First one is an easy pick, while the second is a bit situational.

Next, you will have to choose between better and easier acquired rewards during Ember court and having a chance to get herbs or beverages from enemies who yield XP or honor. Those two are certainly up to you to pick. However, you can always change them for different activities.

Last but not least, three last options are granting a shield for an ally, who healed or buffed you (every 20 seconds), increased duration of combat potions and a small 10 second versatility buff for you and four allies after you use venthyr class ability. First and last are certainly better in raids and mythic+, but which one to choose is up to you.

Draven

Draven is a strong soulbind for tank specs. His first ability reduces the damage you take, while HP is under 40%. Then comes two options, but we think there is no way you can pick a situational speed boost, especially when you have an option to get 15% of max health as shield after each usage of Door of shadows.

Next two options will help you save time or money. Just do not forget to swap them before according activities.

Finally, there are passives which increase stamina and incoming heal during standing, increased crits after you dispel or interrupt or increased main stat, as long as you have 50%+ health. If you are playing tank (and you better be, if you choose Draven) the best choice is “Hold your ground”.

Final Remarks of Soulbinds and Conduits

In Leprestore, we recommend you to use Soulbinds Calculator in order to structure your build with Conduits and Soulbind traits. There is no convenient idea of how you should form your playstyle with them in Covenant Sanctum zone, however, you should remember that all Conduits are enhancing certain aspects of your skills: even the ones that do not like like spec-specific may have role-specific influence in your build, so you should choose the Conduits in according to the type of activity you want to be involved. To achieve the best Soulbind traits you should try hard for finishing Covenant Campaign (though, we can do this for you with the Covenant Campaign boost in our shop), and even in this case there is a chance that you may not succeed in raids, Mythic+ and the famous Torghast Tower. You may be wondering, though, at how easy it is to do all these activities with us and just enjoy the game! Castle Nathria Heroic service will fix your “Raids Headache Syndrome”, while Mythic+ Dungeons Carry will open you the world of fancy M+ achievements and gear. And, for sure, if you wanna conquer the newest content, just order Torghast, Tower of the Damned boost, and your green little friends will appear to help you! Soulbinds and Conduits represent the huge and interesting content, so don’t waste your time on something less enjoyable 😉
