Exotic Weapons

Destiny 2 weapons come in different varieties, the most sought after being Legendary and Exotic. You can read all about the Legendaries in our Legendary Weapons category, but for now let’s discuss Exotic weapons. Exotic weapons are some of the most interesting and powerful guns in the game. Most gaming websites have a dedicated Destiny 2 Exotic tier list, and they all look different. They’re so good that you can only equip one at a time. In Destiny, all Exotic weapons have unique perks that do not roll randomly, so they have a variety of quirks. For example, take Ager’s Call, which generates a slowing burst on killing blows. The same applies to Exotic armor, but that’s a topic for another category. For now we are talking about Destiny Exotic weapons.

Exotic Masterwork

Just in case Exotic guns weren’t absurdly powerful enough, you can further increase their strength by Masterworking them. To do that, you have to acquire a Catalyst for the particular gun that you have and fulfill its Masterwork condition, which usually involves killing a lot of stuff with the gun. Masterworked Exotics get even more unique perks that usually augment the ones they already have, to hone in on that playstyle further. They also get a flat increase in stats. Unique Raid Exotic Weapons

One of the best ways to find Exotic weapons is to complete Raids. Raids usually have a unique Exotic gun that is themed after the Raid. It might take a while to farm it, because they have a rather low drop chance, but they’re well worth it. These Raid drops are usually a very significant increase towards your power level cap, and they are the meta guns that all the cool kids are using. You can take a look at these powerful guns in our Best Weapons section. Another source of powerful gear is Destiny 2 Exotic Quests, which award Exotics as well. For example, the new Exotic quest Destiny 2 added rewards the Guardian with Ager’s Scepter, and it’s pretty amazing.

Seasonal Exotic Weapons

Every Season has a Season Pass that you can buy to unlock access to powerful rewards. One of these rewards is a powerful seasonal Exotic gun that is usually very powerful. A memorable example of such a Seasonal Exotic from a recent Season is the Lorentz Driver, which was absurdly powerful and entered the meta pretty much instantly after the Season of the Lost started. Another famous one of the Beyond Light Exotics is Duality, which also dropped from a Season Pass.

Exotic Weapon Ornaments

Exotic weapons are also great in that their appearance can be changed through Ornaments. They are cosmetic skins that change how the guns look, not only recoloring them, but sometimes changing their look completely, swapping barrels, adding sciency doodads, or engravings. They are designed around some theme or another, and can give a whole different flavor to a familiar weapon. Look up the Law of Induction Ornament for Thunderlord, it changes the look of the gun so drastically that it becomes a coilgun instead of a gunpowder-propelled machinegun. These changes are only cosmetic, of course, but come on, it looks so awesome! Another example is Ace of Spades, one of Destiny 2 Exotic Hand Cannons, which has a wide variety of Ornaments to commemorate the wild history of that gun.
