AION 2 Crafting and Gathering Guide: What to Level First

AION 2 Crafting and Gathering Guide preview with professions, Essence Extraction, mining, herbs, alchemy, forging, and jewelry crafting

AION 2 Global has five crafting professions and one shared gathering system called Essence Extraction. You do not need a different character for every craft. One character can level Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy, and Cooking, while Essence Extraction supplies the ore, gems, logs, herbs, cooking ingredients, and Odyle that those recipes use.

The practical choice is not “which profession is best?” It is “what do I want to make, and is crafting that item cheaper or more reliable than getting it another way?” A Ranger may care about Handicrafting for Bows, a Sorcerer may want Alchemy for Spellbooks, while a player focused on consumables may get more daily use from Cooking or Alchemy.

Pick a Profession for Something You Actually Use

Global currently supports five crafting professions. All five can be leveled on the same character, so you are choosing where to spend materials and time first, not making a permanent one-profession lock.

Profession Main Crafts Good For Main Cost / Risk
Blacksmithing Daggers, longswords, greatswords, maces, Guards Melee weapon users and players targeting a crafted weapon path Weapons consume refining materials, Odyle, metal, and later boss materials
Armorsmithing Helms, pauldrons, breastplates, greaves, gloves, boots, cloaks Filling weak armor slots or building a crafted armor path Many slots compete for the same material budget
Handicrafting Bows, staves, rings, earrings, necklaces, bracelets Rangers, Chanters, and players who want accessories Wood and gemstone chains can become expensive at higher recipe tiers
Alchemy Spellbooks, Orbs, potions, serums, scrolls, Manastones, Soulstones Sorcerer and Spiritmaster weapons plus repeat-use consumables Demand is broad, but margins depend heavily on material prices
Cooking Food and drinks with temporary buffs Any class that uses food regularly or wants repeat-sale items Low-value crafts can flood the market quickly

If you want one place to compare the five crafts, use the AION 2 professions page. For two common examples, Alchemy leveling options cover magic weapons and consumables, while Handicrafting leveling options cover Bows, Staves, and accessories.

Novice to Professional

Crafting does not run as one flat 1 to 100 bar. Each profession starts at Novice 1, reaches Novice 50, then needs its own promotion quest. Completing that quest opens Professional 1, after which the profession can continue to Professional 50.

Rank Skill Range Unlock Requirement What Changes
Novice 1-50 Learn the profession and craft recipes inside the current mastery range New recipes open as mastery rises
Promotion After Novice 50 Complete that profession’s rank-up quest and craft or gather the requested test item Professional rank becomes available
Professional 1-50 Promotion completed Higher recipe requirements and later crafting chains become available

The Global quest database confirms Mastery 50 as the promotion condition for Blacksmithing, Armorsmithing, Handicrafting, Alchemy, Cooking, and Essence Extraction. The exact test item depends on the profession and faction. Do the promotion as soon as you hit the Novice cap if you plan to keep leveling. Staying at Novice 50 only stops future mastery gains.

How Essence Extraction Levels

Essence Extraction is one shared gathering mastery. Ore does not have a separate level from herbs, and gathering a gem does not lock you out of logs. Successful extraction raises the same overall mastery, while specialty choices improve how you handle selected resource types.

Resource Skill Line Main Use Notes
Ore Ore specialty Blacksmithing and Armorsmithing Metal recipes and processed components
Gems Gem specialty Handicrafting Accessory recipes and higher-quality gemstone parts
Logs Log specialty Handicrafting Bows, Staves, and wooden components
Herbs Herb specialty Alchemy Consumables and processed alchemy materials
Cooking ingredients Ingredient specialty Cooking Food and drink recipes
Odyle Odyle specialty Multiple crafts and Substance Morph Do not confuse normal Odyle with Odyle Energy used for dungeon reward cubes

The extraction attempt uses success and failure gauges. Better mastery and common extraction skills improve the attempt, while specialty skills can help find a chosen material, improve yield, or improve the quality of what you gather. You cannot treat every specialty as fully maxed at once, so pick the materials that feed your current craft or sell well on your server.

Current Global data shows the same Novice 50 to Professional promotion structure for Essence Extraction. The upgrade quest asks for a Splendent Ruby and sends Elyos to Korius in Verteron or Asmodians to Alzirr in Altgard. The quest is marked as recommended around level 45, but the Global record uses Mastery 50 as the profession condition rather than character level 45.

Gather While Leveling or Wait Until 45?

If the node is already on your MSQ route, gather it. Current Global data places gatherable resources throughout Verteron and Altgard, and the promotion quest itself is not hard-gated to character level 45. A short stop for a nearby tree, herb, ore, gem, ingredient, or Odyle node builds mastery without turning leveling into a gathering route.

Situation Gather Now? Why
Node is beside the MSQ path Yes Small time cost, mastery gain, and materials you may use later
You need materials for a craft you are actively leveling Yes The stop directly feeds your next recipe
The node needs a long detour Usually no Leveling route matters more unless that material is your current goal
You are already 45 and farming a specific material Yes Now a planned loop makes sense because gathering itself is the goal

Normal open-world gathering is not powered by Odyle Energy. Odyle Energy is the separate resource used to claim reward cubes after Expeditions, Transcendence, and Sanctuary content. Do not build an Essence Extraction plan around that dungeon-energy cap.

How the Crafting Chain Works

Crafted gear climbs through recipe tiers instead of jumping straight from raw materials to a finished high-tier item. Current Global recipes show a base result plus a possible Splendent combo result. On supported gear recipes, the displayed combo chance is 25%. The craft also has its own success chance based on the gap between your mastery and the recipe requirement.

Input Craft Possible Result Next Use
Base gathered materials + refining materials + Odyle First recipe tier Normal item or Splendent combo result The Splendent result can feed the next tier
Previous Splendent item + better materials Expert tier Normal Expert item or Expert Splendent result Expert Splendent becomes a later input
Expert Splendent + Pure materials Artisan tier Normal Artisan item or Artisan Splendent result Artisan Splendent feeds later Dragon Lord paths

For example, current Global Handicrafting data shows a Bow chain where a Splendent Yggdrasil Bow feeds the Expert recipe, then the Expert Splendent version feeds the Artisan recipe. Higher tiers add better refining stones and higher-quality gathered materials. That is why one cheap-looking recipe can hide a long material chain behind it.

Do not price a craft by one recipe attempt. If the item you need depends on a Splendent combo, use the displayed success rate and combo chance when estimating how many attempts the chain may take.

Crafted Gear vs Dungeon Gear

Crafting is useful when it solves a specific weak slot faster than waiting for the right drop. Dungeons are useful when several possible drops improve your setup or when you would run that content anyway for other rewards.

Slot / Goal Crafted Option Dungeon Option What Decides
Weak weapon Target the exact weapon recipe for your class Farm the Expedition that drops the needed weapon family Material cost, expected craft attempts, drop chance, and current Item Level
One bad armor slot Armorsmith the missing slot Run content with several useful armor drops Whether one direct craft is cheaper than repeated reward claims
Accessories Handicrafting gives a direct accessory route Use dungeon accessories if their stats and Item Level fit Current market cost and the stats you actually need
Consumables Alchemy and Cooking give repeatable supply Dungeons are not a reliable replacement for a crafting stockpile How often you consume the item

Use the current AION 2 dungeons page when your alternative is an Expedition drop. Then compare the actual item, not only its color. If the upgrade changes Item Level or Combat Power, the AION 2 Gear Score vs Combat Power guide explains what those numbers are measuring.

Crafting for Kinah

Crafting can make Kinah, but “self-gathered” does not mean “free.” A material you gathered could have been sold. Count that lost sale value when you compare crafting with simply listing the materials.

The useful formula is simple: sale proceeds minus purchased materials minus market fees minus expected craft waste. If a Splendent result is required, expected craft waste must include the chance that an attempt gives the normal item instead.

Dated Example Average Craft Cost Market Price Decision Before Fees
Oct 5, 2026 shared price sample: Splendent Orichalcum Longsword 223,258 Kina 100,000 Kina Buying was about 123,258 Kina cheaper than crafting
Oct 5, 2026 shared price sample: Star Dragon Lord Longsword 12,524,628 Kina 37,000,000 Kina Crafting showed about 24.48M Kina gross room before sale fees and liquidity risk

Those numbers are a dated public shared-price sample, not a Global price list. They are useful because they show both outcomes on the same day: an early craft can be cheaper to buy, while a later craft can show a large paper spread. Check your own server Market before committing materials. Also check recent sale activity. A 37M listing is not profit if nobody buys it.

What to Level on an Alt

You do not need alts just to access all five crafts. One main can level every profession. An alt becomes useful when you want another independent profession grind, another Essence Extraction specialization setup, or a separate material-farming routine without constantly changing what your main is doing.

Main vs Alt Benefit Cost Worth It When
All crafts on main Recipes and materials are easy to manage in one place One character pays the full leveling cost for every craft You want convenience and regularly craft several item types
One or two crafts on an alt Keeps a dedicated crafter or material role separate You repeat profession and gathering work on another character You already play the alt and the second setup saves real time
Different gathering specialties on alts Lets each character focus specialty points on different materials Each alt needs its own Essence Extraction mastery You farm enough materials to justify another full gathering track

Do not take “Odyle on every alt” as an automatic rule. Normal Odyle is a gathered crafting material, while Odyle Energy is a separate dungeon-reward resource. Specialize each character around the materials you actually collect or the craft you plan to fund.

For most players, the simple route works: choose one craft that makes something you use, gather nodes that are already on your path, promote at Novice 50, and only expand into more professions when you know what the next recipe is for. Crafting becomes expensive because of the chain, not because the game forces you to pick one profession forever.
