How do you unlock Helio and the MW4 DMZ Mastery camos? The revealed DMZ camo route is Chiral -> Ripple Tide -> Helio. You build up a weapon’s shared Camo Track, then work through the Mastery challenges assigned to DMZ. Helio is the final revealed reward in that route. Its exact challenge objectives, prerequisite weapon totals and extraction conditions have not been published in full ahead of the mode’s Early Access period.
You can still prepare intelligently before the unlock text is available. Modern Warfare 4 has shared weapon leveling across Multiplayer and DMZ, a separate DMZ progression system, and a Forward Operating Base (FOB) that controls your loadouts. This guide explains what carries between modes, how to prepare your Helio weapons, and how to run and review a deployment without guessing what counts toward a camo.
MW4 DMZ Camos at a Glance
When You Can Start the DMZ Camo Grind
Activision’s October 9 DMZ deep dive confirms access to the complete DMZ mode from October 20, 2026 for players with a qualifying digital preorder or pre-purchase of MW4. Campaign Early Access starts earlier, on October 16, but it is a separate access window. The full MW4 release follows on October 23.
The announcement confirms access to DMZ, not the exact availability of every named camo task at the first login. Once the mode is playable, open a weapon’s Progression and Camo screens before planning an entire day around a particular Mastery objective. The same check will settle whether a challenge can be completed during Early Access and whether any prerequisite is currently locked.
Do not treat the October 20 access date as proof that any specific Helio objective or weapon-count condition is active. Likewise, there is no need to assume that all progress will reset at full launch; use the game’s stated progression rules when the Early Access build becomes available.
MW4 has two connected but different layers of camo progression. Activision confirmed that a weapon’s Camo Track spans Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone. Once its Mastery challenges are available, each mode has its own Mastery rewards. That means progress toward a weapon’s basic camo track can be useful outside DMZ, but the final Helio route must be completed through the relevant DMZ challenges.
| Progression | Where it applies | What it means for Helio |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon levels and compatible attachments | Shared between Multiplayer and DMZ | Prepare a comfortable weapon build before heading into Hajin. |
| Underlying weapon Camo Track | Across Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone | Can help unlock the stage where mode-specific Mastery tasks become available. |
| DMZ Mastery: Chiral, Ripple Tide, Helio | DMZ-specific challenges | Complete the actual DMZ requirements for the reward you want. |
| DMZ Player Level, Orders and FOB unlocks | Separate DMZ progression | Improve access to weapons and equipment; not an announced substitute for a Mastery camo. |
The MW4 Mastery Camos overview shows the full Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone lineup. If you’re working toward Helio specifically, keep the DMZ challenge list as your destination rather than switching to another mode’s final camo.
Once you know which mode owns the challenge, the practical choice is simple: clear the DMZ route yourself or arrange for the selected weapon’s Helio progression to be completed through a dedicated service.
Work Toward Helio Yourself or Have It Completed?
Your weapon Camo Track can progress across modes, but Helio is the DMZ Mastery finish. Review the route if you want to play it yourself, or choose a separate DMZ camo order for the weapons you want completed.
Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio Requirements
The three revealed DMZ Mastery finishes are Chiral, Ripple Tide and Helio. They form the DMZ route in the existing MW4 camo overview, with Helio positioned as the final revealed finish. What remains unknown is the exact in-game task attached to each stage: the kill types, totals, eligible weapon roster, extraction rules and any shared prerequisite across a weapon class.
| Mastery camo | Role in the DMZ route | What to verify in game |
|---|---|---|
| Chiral | First revealed DMZ Mastery finish | Which base Camo Track milestone opens its challenge; the exact weapon and objective text. |
| Ripple Tide | Second revealed DMZ Mastery finish | Which previous stage or weapon group is required; the objective shown once unlocked. |
| Helio | Final revealed DMZ Mastery finish | Any preceding Mastery requirements, eligible weapons and the final completion rule. |

Older Call of Duty camo guides are useful for general habits, not for inventing MW4 conditions. A large number of AI eliminations, a certain number of Operator kills, or successful extractions might be relevant to particular tasks, but none should be presented as a Helio requirement before the actual text appears.
Start with the weapon you really intend to use in DMZ. Record the first locked stage and its stated prerequisite. You only need to solve the next available objective, not guess every step of a future all-weapon grind.
Prepare Your Weapons Before Farming Helio
The Forward Operating Base makes MW4 DMZ different from simply loading into a Multiplayer match. You can enter with a Free Loadout or use weapons saved in your Stash. As you progress the separate DMZ Player Level, more preparation options open. Those systems can make a camo session easier even though they do not, by themselves, unlock Helio.
Activision confirms that the Gunsmith unlocks at DMZ Player Level 10. In DMZ, you spend DMZ Cash on weapon builds and attachments. To unlock the ability to buy a particular base weapon repeatedly, you must find its Weapon Manual and successfully extract with it. Looting a weapon and bringing that one instance home is not the same as permanently opening it for purchase.
Weapon levels and compatible attachment unlocks carry between Multiplayer and DMZ. The official Gunsmith guide also explains that an attachment already unlocked for compatible weapons is available in DMZ, although building out a purchased DMZ weapon costs in-game Cash. Unlocked weapon camos themselves do not require DMZ Cash to equip.
If several target weapons are still poorly leveled, consult our MW4 weapon leveling and attachments guide before spending your first DMZ session rebuilding the same equipment. Prioritize a weapon you can control reliably, rather than trying to progress an entire arsenal with unfamiliar loadouts.
Plan a DMZ Deployment Around Your Challenge
Hajin is an extraction zone, not a fixed Multiplayer arena. A good Helio session starts at the Progression screen and ends with checking the camo counter. In between, pick a deployment that suits the actual task rather than assuming every enemy or extraction contributes equally.
- Read the exact camo objective. Select your intended weapon, find the first available DMZ Mastery step, and note the weapon, target type, action and completion condition. If the challenge is locked, work on the prerequisite instead.
- Choose the weapon you can deploy with. Check your Stash, Free Loadout, Gunsmith or collected weapon instance. Equip relevant unlocked attachments, and use the FOB Firing Range to test how it handles.
- Pick the deployment format. MW4 DMZ offers Story Missions, Dynamic Operations and Free Roam. Free Roam may give you more flexibility for a challenge that can be done during open exploration; an objective tied to a specific activity needs the corresponding mission. Confirm the actual camo text before committing to either choice.
- Carry the gear your objective needs. A Plate Carrier, Backpack, weapon and Medkit are part of Activision’s recommended Ready Up preparation. If the session also involves extracting a Weapon Manual for your arsenal, reserve inventory space for it.
- Play to the condition, not just the scoreboard. Track qualifying events for the selected gun. Do not assume that an AI elimination, an enemy Operator elimination, or a mission reward counts unless it matches the displayed requirement.
- Extract when your objective requires it. Exfil is central to securing loot and Weapon Manuals. Whether an individual camo task also demands a successful extraction must be confirmed by its own requirement.
- Check the counter before redeploying. Compare the next weapon’s Camo Track and DMZ Mastery stage against what you recorded at the FOB. Only repeat a route if the challenge actually advanced.
One useful detail from Activision’s DMZ deep dive: DMZ Player XP still advances even after a failed extraction. That does not establish the completion rules for a camo challenge. Keep the XP bar, weapon level and Mastery objective separate when deciding whether a deployment worked.
Check Your Progress After Each Deployment
The first few live deployments should be treated as a way to establish a reliable routine. Record what the challenge shows before entering Hajin and what it shows when you return. Use the same weapon and read the same counter. A long match with plenty of XP is not evidence that Helio moved forward.
| Check | Before deployment | After deployment |
|---|---|---|
| Weapon identity | Chosen gun and current level | Same gun still selected for the challenge |
| Available camo stage | Camo Track or named DMZ Mastery | New stage unlocked, or earlier prerequisite still shown |
| Objective counter | Exact number and condition on screen | Amount credited to that same condition |
| Match and extraction outcome | Activity you intend to complete | Whether the required action was actually completed |
If nothing moved, first check for a simpler explanation: the wrong weapon was selected, the next Mastery stage was not yet open, the activity belonged to another mode, or the objective specified a different action. If your exact circumstances match the on-screen requirement and the counter still does not advance, capture the before-and-after evidence rather than assuming all DMZ camo progress is broken.
Once one approach has registered consistently, repeat that specific approach with the same task conditions. This is more useful than an untested claim about the “fastest Helio farm” when the full requirements are still emerging.
If You Want Helio Completed for You
A full DMZ Mastery path can involve several weapons and different stages of progression. If you want the final DMZ finish rather than organizing every deployment yourself, LepreStore offers a dedicated MW4 Helio camo boost. Choose the weapons you need and identify which base or earlier Mastery stages are already finished so the order can match your remaining scope.
This is a DMZ-specific camo service, not hosted Multiplayer session time. If your actual target is Orion Reforged in Multiplayer, use our Orion Reforged unlock guide instead. If you are still choosing between different Mastery finishes and modes, compare MW4 camo services before selecting a package.
