Modern Warfare 4 changes the camo grind by connecting weapon progression across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone, then splitting the endgame into separate Mastery paths for each mode.
Activision has confirmed nine mode-specific Mastery Camos in total. Multiplayer gets Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged, and Orion Reforged. DMZ gets Chiral, Ripple Tide, and Helio. Warzone gets Parallax, Damascus Reforged, and Empyros.
The names are known, but the complete challenge requirements are not. Activision has not yet published the final kill counts, weapon totals, or every step required to reach each Mastery tier. This page separates confirmed progression details from information that is still waiting for the full launch rules.
MW4 Mastery Camos at a glance
How MW4 Camo Progression Works
The important change is the shared weapon Camo Track. Instead of treating Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone as completely disconnected grinds from the first challenge, MW4 allows a weapon’s underlying Camo Track to progress across the three experiences.
That shared progress eventually opens Mastery Camo challenges. From there, the paths separate. A player chasing Orion Reforged follows the Multiplayer Mastery line, while a player working toward Helio or Empyros finishes the appropriate DMZ or Warzone challenges.
How the MW4 camo grind works
The shared part of the grind happens before the mode-specific Mastery paths.
This distinction matters when planning the grind. Shared Camo Track progress can save time when moving between modes, but a completed Mastery reward in one mode does not automatically award the Mastery camos from the other two.
All MW4 Mastery Camos
| Mode | First Mastery | Second Mastery | Final Mastery |
|---|---|---|---|
| Multiplayer | Mercurial Drift | Polyatomic Reforged | Orion Reforged |
| DMZ | Chiral | Ripple Tide | Helio |
| Warzone | Parallax | Damascus Reforged | Empyros |

MW4 Multiplayer Mastery Camos
Multiplayer has a three-stage Mastery line ending with Orion Reforged. The progression follows Mercurial Drift, Polyatomic Reforged, and Orion Reforged in that order.
Mercurial Drift
Mercurial Drift is the entry Mastery Camo for Multiplayer. The reveal version uses a polished metallic surface with colors moving through hot magenta, orange, and gold as the weapon turns. It has a liquid-metal character rather than the flat metallic finish seen on many older first-tier completion camos.
The final Mercurial Drift challenge requirements have not been released. What is clear is its position at the beginning of the Multiplayer Mastery line.
Polyatomic Reforged
Polyatomic returns in a new form. Polyatomic Reforged keeps the crystalline identity associated with the name, with dark sections broken up by violet, blue, and pink facets. The finish changes noticeably with weapon angle and lighting.
Its placement makes it the bridge between Mercurial Drift and Orion Reforged. Players familiar with the MWII-era Polyatomic should treat this as a new camo with a new progression route, rather than assuming old challenge requirements will return.
Orion Reforged
Orion Reforged is the final Multiplayer Mastery Camo currently revealed for MW4. Its presentation uses a deep-space look built around crimson and hot-pink nebula tones, bright star-like speckling, and glowing details across the weapon surface.
The name comes from an earlier Call of Duty Mastery Camo, but the MW4 version has its own art and progression. Reaching it will require advancing through the new Multiplayer Mastery system once the complete challenge list goes live.
MW4 DMZ Mastery Camos
DMZ returns with its own camo endgame. Its three revealed Mastery Camos are Chiral, Ripple Tide, and Helio.
Because the base Camo Track is shared, time spent using a weapon outside DMZ can still contribute to the earlier weapon progression. The Mastery sequence itself belongs to DMZ.
Chiral
Chiral is the first revealed DMZ Mastery Camo. The showcase version is dominated by red and dark-red material, with a crystalline or marbled pattern that gives the surface more depth than a simple solid-color skin.
It opens the DMZ Mastery sequence before Ripple Tide and Helio.
Ripple Tide
Ripple Tide takes the DMZ set in a different direction. Its dark base is interrupted by amber-orange patterns that resemble ripples moving across liquid or heated material. The contrast makes the effect readable without covering the weapon in a uniformly bright texture.
It occupies the middle position in the DMZ Mastery route.
Helio
Helio is the final revealed DMZ Mastery Camo. Its showcase appearance uses a bright red chrome-like surface, fine texturing, and highlights that resemble intense solar light moving across the weapon.
Players targeting Helio should expect to finish the DMZ-specific Mastery path. Completing high-level camo work in Multiplayer or Warzone can contribute to the shared weapon track, but it does not replace the DMZ Mastery progression.
MW4 Warzone Mastery Camos
Warzone gets Parallax, Damascus Reforged, and Empyros. These are part of the same nine-camo structure Activision announced for the three main weapon experiences.
There is one scheduling detail worth separating from the camo reveal. MW4 launches on October 23, 2026, while the MW4 chapter of Warzone begins with Season 1 shortly afterward. Until Activision publishes the final Season 1 date and camo rollout details, players should not assume the Warzone Mastery path opens on October 23 itself.
Parallax
Parallax starts the Warzone Mastery sequence. Its finish resembles polished, oil-slick metal, shifting between green, gold, rose, violet, and neighboring tones depending on the viewing angle.
Compared with the other Warzone rewards, Parallax is visually cleaner and less densely patterned, which suits its position as the first Mastery tier.
Damascus Reforged
Damascus Reforged brings back one of the most recognizable camo names from Modern Warfare 2019, although its role has changed. In MW4, Damascus Reforged sits in the Warzone Mastery line rather than serving as a Multiplayer completion reward.
The revealed version keeps the layered, folded-steel appearance associated with Damascus patterns and pushes it toward brighter electric blue, cyan, and pink tones.
This naming overlap makes older search results easy to misread. Guides for the 2019 Damascus grind do not describe the unlock route for Damascus Reforged in MW4.
Empyros
Empyros is the final revealed Warzone Mastery Camo. The surface uses turquoise, teal, emerald, and sapphire tones arranged in an animated fractured pattern. Parts of the texture resemble illuminated glass or a digital mosaic laid over the weapon.
Within the revealed Warzone sequence, the path runs from Parallax to Damascus Reforged and ends with Empyros.
Prestige Mastery Camos And The Pyroclast Set
The Prestige Mastery camos need their own category because they are separate from Activision’s official count of nine Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone Mastery rewards.
Pre-launch material has shown a Pyroclast progression with four named finishes: Pyroclast, Pyroclast Verge, Pyroclast Scatter, and Pyroclast Cascade. The complete Prestige Mastery rule set and its final milestones have not yet been published in the same detail as the nine mode assignments.
Pyroclast
The first Pyroclast finish uses dark graphite and metallic surfaces cut by green glowing fractures. Its restrained amount of green makes it the least transformed version of the set.
Pyroclast Verge
Pyroclast Verge increases the luminous effect, with thicker acid-green veins running through the darker weapon material.
Pyroclast Scatter
Pyroclast Scatter breaks the dark surface into sharper faceted sections, with green light appearing through cracks and scattered points across the finish.
Pyroclast Cascade
Pyroclast Cascade is the brightest version shown so far. Green becomes the dominant visual element and flows through a larger portion of the weapon rather than appearing only in isolated fractures.
What “Reforged” Means For Returning Call Of Duty Camos
MW4 uses several familiar camo names, but adding “Reforged” is more than a label change. The returning names are attached to new designs and different places in the progression system.
| MW4 camo | Name previously associated with | MW4 placement |
|---|---|---|
| Polyatomic Reforged | Polyatomic from Modern Warfare II | Multiplayer, second Mastery tier |
| Orion Reforged | Orion from Modern Warfare II | Multiplayer, final Mastery tier |
| Damascus Reforged | Damascus from Modern Warfare 2019 | Warzone, second Mastery tier |
This is especially relevant for Damascus Reforged. Someone returning after Modern Warfare 2019 may naturally expect Damascus to be attached to Multiplayer. MW4 places the Reforged version in Warzone instead.
What Activision Has Confirmed About The Camo Grind
The pre-launch information is enough to understand the structure, but not enough to build an exact challenge calculator yet.
| Detail | Current status |
|---|---|
| Weapon Camo Track spans Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone | Confirmed |
| Three Mastery Camos for each mode | Confirmed |
| Nine mode Mastery Camos in total | Confirmed |
| Names of the Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone Masteries | Revealed |
| Exact Mastery challenge objectives | Not published yet |
| Required kill counts | Not published yet |
| Number of weapons required for later Mastery tiers | Not published yet |
| Multiplayer and DMZ start date | October 23, 2026 |
| MW4 integration into Warzone | Season 1, shortly after launch |
| Full Prestige Mastery milestone structure | Still awaiting complete publication |
Any guide listing precise requirements before Activision publishes them should be treated cautiously. Challenge numbers copied from Modern Warfare 2019, MWII, MWIII, or another Call of Duty cannot be assumed to apply to MW4.
Does MW4 Beta Camo Progress Carry Into The Full Game?
No weapon progression earned during the MW4 Open Beta carries into the full release. That includes player level, weapon unlock progress, and other ordinary in-beta progression.
Eligible cosmetic rewards earned from the beta can carry into the full game. That distinction is important for anyone who spent time leveling weapons during the test: the reward cosmetics can remain on the account, while the normal weapon grind starts again at launch.
How To Prepare For The MW4 Mastery Grind
There is no reason to plan around guessed kill counts before the final challenge list exists. There are still a few useful decisions players can make from the confirmed structure:
- Pick the Mastery finish you actually want. Orion Reforged, Helio, and Empyros end three different mode paths.
- Use the shared Camo Track to your advantage. Early weapon progress can be made across Multiplayer, DMZ, and Warzone instead of forcing every base step into one mode.
- Keep mode Mastery progress separate in your planning. Reaching a DMZ Mastery reward does not complete the equivalent Multiplayer or Warzone tier.
- Wait for the final challenge table before estimating grind time. The number of required weapons and exact objectives will have a much larger effect on total completion time than the camo names themselves.
- For Warzone, watch the Season 1 rollout. MW4 launches before its new Warzone chapter begins.
Once Activision publishes the complete launch challenge set, the useful next step will be mapping every camo requirement by weapon class and identifying which objectives can be combined efficiently.
