Affliction Warlock is a ranged DPS specialization built around damage-over-time effects, efficient resource conversion, demon control, and sustained pressure on targets that live long enough for its setup to pay off. WoW Forever makes the spec considerably more self-contained: DoTs can critically strike, damage Banes no longer replace utility Curses, and the deeper Affliction tree turns drains into a real damage engine instead of leaving the spec dependent on Shadow Bolt alone.
The current WoW Forever beta is capped at level 20, so several defining Affliction tools — including Siphon Life, Soul Siphon, and the 31-point Wrack capstone — belong to later leveling or level-60 theorycraft. This guide therefore separates the tested level-20 build and rotation from level-60 PvE and PvP planning, while also covering race, professions, stats, gear, Legacy perks, and the Affliction-specific mechanics that matter most.
Affliction Warlock at a Glance
Leveling an Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever
Affliction becomes efficient once its DoTs, demon control, and wand damage work together, but travel and quest routing still account for a large part of the leveling journey.
- Learn pet control, DoT timing, and Soul Shard management as you level.
- Upgrade your wand and spell-power gear as new options appear.
- Keep full control over zones, quests, professions, and pace.
- Choose the exact target level you want, up to level 60.
- Skip repeated questing, travel, and dungeon routing.
- Return to the character at the level range you need for your next goal.
Best Affliction Warlock Talent Builds in WoW Forever
Best Level 20 Affliction Warlock Leveling Build
At the current level-20 beta cap, Affliction does not yet have access to its deeper drain package. The strongest general-purpose approach is therefore to improve your most reliable DoT, make your spells miss less often, and add enough resource support to keep moving between pulls.
| Talent | Points | Why Take It? |
|---|---|---|
| Improved Corruption | 5/5 | Makes Corruption instant and increases its damage. This is the most important early Affliction talent for mobile leveling and multi-DoT pulls. |
| Suppression | 4/5 | The current level-20 testing indicates that four points are enough to cover the same-level Hit requirement while also reducing threat. |
| Improved Life Tap | 1/2 | Improves the Health-to-Mana conversion that keeps the Warlock leveling loop moving. |
| Soul Harvesting | 1/2 | One point turns properly timed Drain Soul kills into a strong mana-regeneration window while also maintaining Soul Shards. |

Warlock Affliction talent build — Affliction 11, Demonology 0, Destruction 0.
11 / 0 / 0 Key talents: Improved Corruption 5/5, Suppression 4/5, Soul Harvesting 1/2, Improved Life Tap 1/2Legacy talent points: the current beta allows up to seven Legacy Points to be collected before level 25, which can translate into two additional class talent points. If you reach them at level 20, Pandemic is currently one of the strongest pure-damage investments per point. Amplify Curse is another option, although its present interaction with Bane of Agony still looks beta-sensitive.
If you value sustain more than same-level Hit consistency, moving one point from Suppression into Improved Life Tap gives the 2/3/5/0/1 Affliction setup currently used in another major beta leveling guide.
Choose any WoW Forever leveling range up to 60 and skip the quest, travel, and dungeon grind while keeping control of your target level.
Level 60 Affliction Warlock PvE Build — Theorycraft
This is forward-looking level-60 theorycraft, not a solved raid build. Raid encounters, final itemization, tuning changes, and the actual value of Hit and Crit at level 60 can still change the optimal allocation.
A strong current framework is 46/0/5. It takes essentially the full Affliction damage package, reaches Wrack, and spends the remaining five points in Improved Shadow Bolt.
- ★ A new talent introduced with WoW Forever.
- ★ A talent that has been modified compared to Classic.
Warlock Affliction talent build — Affliction 46, Demonology 0, Destruction 5.
46 / 0 / 5 Key talents: Wrack, Siphon Life, Amplify Curse, Shadow Mastery 5/5, Malevolence 5/5, Malediction 5/5| Key Talent | Role in the Build |
|---|---|
| Malediction | Increases periodic damage and scales the part of your toolkit that defines Affliction. |
| Improved Drains | Directly increases Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack. |
| Pandemic | Raises the critical-damage bonus of the Affliction spells listed in its tooltip, which matters now that periodic effects can Crit. |
| Malevolence | Adds Shadow critical chance and improves scaling with the redesigned Crit interactions. |
| Nightfall | Creates instant Shadow Bolt windows from Affliction damage, giving the spec a useful proc for movement or filler. |
| Siphon Life | Adds another Affliction effect, sustain, and another way to prepare the target for Soul Siphon. |
| Soul Siphon | The build-defining drain multiplier. At 3/3, three other Affliction effects reach its maximum 36% bonus. |
| Shadow Mastery | Improves the Shadow side of the entire build, including the drain-oriented endgame loop. |
| Wrack | The 31-point capstone and planned main endgame channel. While active, it also increases damage from your other Shadow DoTs. |
A 44/0/7 variation trades two Affliction points for 2/2 Destructive Reach. Its 20% extra damaging-spell range can be valuable on encounters where uptime and positioning matter more than the lost Affliction points. Treat that as an encounter-specific option until raid testing exists.
Level 60 Affliction Warlock PvP Build — Theorycraft
For PvP, Affliction benefits more from range, Health, control, and protection for channels. This 44/5/2 framework keeps Wrack, takes Curse of Exhaustion, adds 5/5 Demonic Embrace for Stamina, and uses 2/2 Destructive Reach to apply pressure from farther away.

Warlock Affliction talent build — Affliction 44, Demonology 5, Destruction 2.
44 / 5 / 2 Key talents: Wrack, Siphon Life, Curse of Exhaustion, Amplify Curse, Malevolence 5/5, Malediction 5/5The goal is not to stand still and complete a perfect PvE drain cycle. Keep Corruption and your Bane rolling, use Fear and Curse of Exhaustion to create space, consume Nightfall procs while moving, and only commit to a long channel when the opponent cannot immediately punish it.
Community Affliction Builds Worth Watching
| Build | What It Prioritizes | What We Can Learn From It | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1/4/5/0/1 at Level 20 | Hit reliability + instant Corruption + Drain Soul sustain | This is the balanced build used as our main current-cap recommendation. Four points in Suppression specifically target same-level Hit reliability. | Wowhead Level 20 Beta Guide |
| 2/3/5/0/1 at Level 20 | More Life Tap efficiency, one less point of Hit | A useful alternative for solo leveling where resource flow matters more than maximizing same-level spell reliability. | Icy Veins / Crix |
| 44/0/7 at Level 60 | Deep Affliction + 20% damaging-spell range + Improved Shadow Bolt | The extra range may become encounter-relevant if raid movement or positioning regularly interrupts Wrack and DoT uptime. | Public Beta-Client Build |
| 46/0/5 at Level 60 | Maximum Affliction investment + Improved Shadow Bolt | A clean baseline for full-tree PvE theorycraft, but still a public build rather than proof of the final raid meta. | Public Beta-Client Build |
Best Race for Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever
Race differences are much more interesting in Forever than in original Classic, but final level-60 tuning is not available yet. For Affliction specifically, the most useful distinction is between throughput racials and PvP or leveling utility.
| Race | Why It Works for Affliction | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Gnome | Eureka! reduces the Mana cost of the next three damaging abilities by 50% and increases their damage by 10%, while Expansive Mind increases maximum Mana. | Alliance throughput and leveling |
| Orc | Blood Fury now provides Spell Power as well as Attack Power. Shatter Curse adds excellent defensive PvP utility against magic, Curses, and Banes. | Horde throughput |
| Human | Will to Survive breaks Stuns, while Sword Specialization can provide spell Crit while a sword is equipped. | Alliance PvP / utility |
| Undead | Will of the Forsaken remains extremely valuable against Charm, Fear, and Sleep, while the race also has strong downtime tools for leveling. | Horde PvP and leveling utility |
| Troll | Berserking speeds normal spellcasts, but the current beta does not let that cast-speed bonus accelerate Affliction DoTs or drain channels. That makes it less synergistic with the core Affliction loop than it may first appear. | Niche / encounter-dependent |
Current takeaway: Gnome is the cleanest Alliance throughput-oriented choice, while Orc is the clearest Horde throughput option. Human and Undead become especially attractive when PvP utility matters. The differences are still beta-sensitive enough that race should not override a strong personal preference.
Best Professions for Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever
Profession balance is not solved yet because Forever changes the profession bonuses and many endgame recipes have not been fully tested. Based on the current beta data, these are the combinations with the clearest Affliction use cases.
| Profession Setup | Why It Is Useful |
|---|---|
| Tailoring + Engineering | Currently has the highest suspected damage ceiling: Tailoring provides cloth embroidery options including Spell Power, while Engineering brings bombs and utility gadgets. |
| Tailoring + Enchanting | A more self-contained caster setup. Tailoring provides cloth gear and embroidery, while Enchanting offers ring enchants and lets you disenchant your own crafted items. |
| Enchanting while leveling | Especially useful early because crafted wands such as the Greater Magic Wand are unusually important to the current level-20 Warlock damage loop. |
Do not lock yourself into an endgame profession purely from pre-launch theorycraft. The best profession combination can change once final recipes, raid encounters, consumables, and profession-only effects are known.
Affliction Warlock Stat Priority and Leveling Gear
Level 20 Stat Priority
A practical current-beta priority is:
Spell Power > needed Spell Hit > Critical Strike > Intellect / Stamina > Spirit > Haste for the Affliction core
- Spell Power: the strongest general offensive stat because it improves your DoTs, drains, direct spells, and even current Forever wand damage.
- Spell Hit: extremely valuable until you are reliably hitting the content you are fighting. 4/5 Suppression currently covers the same-level Hit requirement at level 20, but higher-level enemies can still change the value of additional Hit.
- Critical Strike: more important than it was for Classic Affliction because periodic effects can now Crit, with deeper talents such as Pandemic further improving Crit scaling.
- Intellect: provides a larger Mana pool and gives you more room before another Life Tap is required.
- Stamina: gives you a larger safety buffer and more Health to work with while converting Health into Mana.
- Spirit: has some additional value because Life Tap now scales with Spirit, but it is not a reason to sacrifice strong offensive stats.
- Haste: currently does not make DoTs or drain channels tick faster. It can still shorten normal casts such as Shadow Bolt, but it is much less attractive for Affliction’s central damage engine.
Be careful with school-specific gear. Shadow damage improves the Shadow side of your toolkit but does not increase Fire spells such as Immolate. General Spell Power is therefore easier to evaluate while leveling.
Level 20 Gear Priorities
Do not reuse an old Classic BiS list without checking the Forever tooltip. Itemization has changed. At the current cap, focus on actual current stats rather than an item’s old reputation.
| Priority | What to Look For |
|---|---|
| Wand | Upgrade this aggressively. The Greater Magic Wand is available from level 13 and now carries Spell Power, while the Sable Wand is another strong current-cap option. |
| Spell Power pieces | General Spell Power improves more of the leveling toolkit than school-specific damage. |
| Intellect / Stamina | Useful when two items have similar offensive value because both stats make the Health-to-Mana leveling loop more comfortable. |
| Hit / Crit | Both become valuable when available, but current low-level gear is not dense enough to justify ignoring large Spell Power upgrades purely for a secondary stat. |
Affliction Warlock Rotation in WoW Forever
Level 20 Solo Rotation
- Use Summon Succubus when maximum pet damage is useful, or Summon Voidwalker when you need a durable tank.
- Send the demon in first and give it a moment to establish threat.
- Apply Bane of Agony early because it needs time to ramp.
- Apply Corruption.
- Add Immolate when the target will live long enough for the extra Mana and global cooldown to pay back.
- Use your wand as the normal efficient filler instead of automatically spending Mana on Shadow Bolt.
- When you need a Soul Shard or want the mana-regeneration trigger from Soul Harvesting, finish the enemy while channeling Drain Soul.
The most common leveling mistake is over-DoTing. If an enemy will die after only a few seconds, a full Bane + Corruption + Immolate setup can cost more Mana and global cooldowns than the target is worth. Let existing effects and the wand finish low-health enemies.
Level 20 Dungeon and Boss Rotation
- Apply Bane of Agony.
- Apply Corruption.
- Add Immolate on durable targets.
- Maintain the utility Curse your group actually needs. Curse of the Elements is valuable for caster-heavy groups, while Curse of Recklessness can support physical damage.
- Wand during low-priority filler time and conserve Mana for targets where your DoTs can complete their duration.
The important Forever change is that the Bane and Curse do not compete for the same debuff slot. A boss can have your damage Bane and your group’s utility Curse at the same time.
Level 60 PvE Rotation — Current Theorycraft
- Apply Bane of Agony or the appropriate Bane for the encounter.
- Apply the appropriate utility Curse, commonly Curse of the Elements.
- Maintain Corruption.
- Maintain Siphon Life when talented and the target will live long enough.
- Once the target carries at least three other Affliction effects, channel Wrack to take full advantage of 3/3 Soul Siphon.
- Use instant Shadow Bolt casts from Nightfall during movement or between channel windows.
- Use Drain Life when the healing has real value rather than treating it as a mandatory damage filler.
- Use Life Tap when it is safe and before Mana becomes an emergency.
- Refresh DoTs when their remaining duration warrants it — not simply because a temporary buff appeared.
How Affliction's Core Damage Loop Works
Affliction rewards setup on targets that live long enough. The key is to avoid spending full DoT and channel setup on enemies that will die before the damage pays back.
Soul Siphon Breakpoint, Dynamic DoTs, and the Wand Loop
These are the three Affliction-specific mechanics that deserve more attention than they receive in generic build summaries because each one changes an actual gameplay decision.
| Community Entity | What Actually Happens | What You Should Do | Verification |
|---|---|---|---|
| The 3-effect Soul Siphon breakpoint | At 3/3, Soul Siphon gives 12% more damage or healing to Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack for each of your other Affliction effects, capped at 36%. | On a durable target, build three other Affliction effects before committing to your important drain/Wrack window. A Bane, a Curse, and Corruption can already form the three-effect setup. | Current Wowhead Beta Guide |
| DoTs dynamically update — do not snapshot | Most Forever DoTs update as your buffs and the target’s debuffs change instead of permanently keeping the stats present when you first applied them. | Do not clip a healthy Corruption or Bane simply because a temporary Spell Power or Crit buff appeared. Refresh based on duration and target lifetime. | Wowhead / Current Warlock Testing Discussion |
| Level-20 wand + Drain Soul kill loop | Forever wands scale with Spell Power and cost no Mana. Current testing puts them close enough to low-level spell filler that repeatedly casting Shadow Bolt is often inefficient. Drain Soul then turns selected killing blows into shards and, with Soul Harvesting, a mana-regeneration window. | DoT enemies that will live long enough, wand while they tick, then deliberately Drain Soul selected kills instead of channeling drains on every target. | Wowhead Level 20 Testing / Beta Community Discussion |
Useful Leveling Wand Macro
#showtooltip Shoot
/cast !Shoot
This prevents unnecessary Shoot toggling and fits the current Affliction leveling rhythm well. Forever also lets you move while the wand is recharging between shots, so movement between attacks is less punishing than it was in original Classic.
What Changed for Affliction Warlock in WoW Forever?
| Change | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Periodic damage can Crit | Crit now scales a much larger portion of Affliction’s damage, and talents such as Pandemic are specifically designed around the new interaction. |
| Damage Curses became Banes | Bane of Agony can coexist with a utility Curse such as Curse of the Elements. You no longer sacrifice your main damage curse just to provide group utility. |
| Wrack is the current Affliction capstone | Affliction finally gets a spec-specific drain filler that also increases damage from your other Shadow DoTs while active. |
| Suppression affects all class abilities | The talent now provides general spell Hit and threat reduction instead of being limited to the old narrow use case. |
| Life Tap scales with Spirit | Spirit has a little more practical value in the Warlock resource loop, although it does not replace offensive stats. |
| Drain Soul can generate Soul Shards from damage ticks | Shard generation is less dependent on perfectly landing the killing blow, although the leveling kill-finisher remains valuable with Soul Harvesting. |
| Haste does not speed DoTs or drain channels | This is one of the biggest gearing traps for players coming from later versions of WoW. Haste still affects ordinary casts, but not the core Affliction periodic/channel loop in the current beta. |
| DoTs generally update dynamically | Classic/WotLK-style snapshot habits should not drive your refresh timing. A temporary buff is not automatically a reason to overwrite an existing DoT. |
Important Beta Talent Changes to Watch
Be careful with Affliction guides or talent screenshots made before the current beta client. The capstone and drain talents changed shortly before and during beta. The current Improved Drains is a straightforward bonus to Drain Life, Drain Soul, and Wrack; older execute-oriented descriptions are no longer a safe basis for planning your level-60 rotation.
The same applies to the deeper talent tree in general. Until level-60 raid testing exists, treat exact point allocations as frameworks and treat current spell/talent tooltips from the live beta client as more reliable than pre-beta screenshots or old Classic assumptions.
Best Legacy Perks for Affliction Warlock
The Legacy system is account-wide progression, but its points can be spent differently on individual characters. At launch, Legacy spending is planned to be capped at 16 points. For an Affliction Warlock focused on leveling, the Adventure perks have the clearest immediate synergy.
| Legacy Perk | Why Affliction Likes It |
|---|---|
| Talented | Lets class talent points begin arriving earlier while leveling. This gets important breakpoints such as instant Corruption online sooner. It does not increase the level-60 maximum beyond 51 talent points. |
| Thrill of Adventure | Restores a percentage of maximum Health and Mana over time after a qualifying killing blow in the open world. That directly complements Affliction’s Health/Mana conversion loop, although the perk is ineffective in dungeons, raids, and battlegrounds. |
| Well Rested | Improves rested-experience accumulation and cap, making it useful for alts or characters leveled in shorter sessions. |
| High Alert | A situational open-world choice if detecting stealthed opponents matters to you. It does not function in battlegrounds. |
For the current level-20 beta specifically, obtaining all realistically available early Legacy Points can give you two additional class talent points. That is useful for reaching deeper Affliction options sooner, but it does not require a separate level-60 calculator build because the final class-talent cap remains 51.
