Demonology Warlock in WoW Forever is a ranged DPS specialization built around making your demon a permanent part of your damage, survival, and resource engine. Instead of treating the pet as background utility, Forever gives Demonology stronger demon scaling, talents that continuously heal and restore Mana to the pet, and an endgame capstone that lets you combine Demonic Sacrifice with a different active demon.
The current WoW Forever beta is capped at level 20, so the full Demonology identity is not available yet. Core talents such as Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge, Master Demonologist, and the 31-point Demonic Pact belong to later leveling or level-60 theorycraft. This guide therefore separates tested level-20 gameplay from projected level-60 PvE and PvP builds.
Demonology Warlock at a Glance
Leveling a Demonology Warlock in WoW Forever
Demonology turns your demon into a real part of your damage and resource engine, but travel, pet quests, Soul Shards, professions, and dungeon routing still account for much of the leveling journey.
- Learn when to use Voidwalker durability versus Sayaad damage.
- Practice pet positioning, Life Tap timing, and Soul Shard management as you level.
- Upgrade your wand and Spell Power gear while unlocking deeper Demonology talents.
- Choose the exact target level you want, up to level 60.
- Skip repeated questing, travel, and dungeon routing.
- Return to the character at the level range you need for your next goal.
Best Demonology Warlock Talent Builds in WoW Forever
Best Level 20 Demonology Warlock Build
At level 20 you cannot reach the talents that define endgame Demonology, so the strongest spec-focused approach is to improve your demon’s damage and resource pool while unlocking the new interaction between your own spell damage, Life Tap, and your active demon.
| Talent | Points | Why Take It? |
|---|---|---|
| Unholy Power | 5/5 | Increases damage dealt by your demon by 10%. This is the simplest direct throughput gain in the early Demonology tree. |
| Fel Vitality | 3/3 | Increases your demon’s Health and Mana by 15% and your own maximum Mana by 15%, improving both pet uptime and your leveling resource pool. |
| Demonic Energies | 2/2 | Your spell damage heals your demon for 15% of the damage dealt, and Mana gained through Life Tap is also restored to your demon. |
| Master Summoner | 1/2 | Reduces demon summon time and Mana cost, making pet swaps and recovery after a demon death less punishing. |

Warlock Demonology talent build — Affliction 0, Demonology 10, Destruction 0.
0 / 10 / 0 Key talents: Unholy Power 5/5, Demonic Energies 2/2, Demonic Brand 2/3, Master Summoner 1/2This is the cleaner pure Demonology level-20 setup. There is also a strong hybrid alternative: current Wowhead testing recommends 4/5 Suppression when reliable Hit against same-level or slightly higher-level enemies matters more than maximizing early Demonology investment.
For solo leveling, points can also be moved toward Improved Voidwalker if your goal is maximum pet threat rather than Sayaad damage. The Forever Voidwalker is substantially better at holding enemies than its original Classic counterpart.
Which Pet Should You Use at Level 20?
| Demon | Use It For | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Succubus / Incubus — Sayaad | Maximum damage | Current beta testing identifies the Sayaad as the strongest damage pet available at level 20. It is the default when an enemy can be safely controlled without a tank pet. |
| Voidwalker | Solo leveling and difficult pulls | Torment holds threat much more reliably in Forever, allowing you to DoT and wand enemies while the Voidwalker tanks. |
| Imp | Ranged utility and situations where melee pet uptime is poor | The Imp can contribute without standing beside the target and remains useful when encounter movement makes a melee demon awkward. |
The Sayaad quest becomes available at level 20, while the Voidwalker is unlocked through its level-10 class quest. Since your pet choice can change from pull to pull, learning to swap demons early is useful preparation for endgame Demonology.
Extra Talent Points from Legacy at Level 20
The current beta makes up to seven Legacy Points obtainable before level 25, which can translate into two additional class talent points. If you have them, Improved Sayaad is one of the strongest direct damage investments available once the next talent tier opens.
Demonic Sacrifice is usually not worth taking for normal level-20 gameplay. Without Demonic Pact, sacrificing your demon removes the pet whose damage, threat, and utility make early Demonology attractive in the first place.
Choose any WoW Forever leveling range up to 60 and skip the quest, travel, and dungeon grind while keeping control of your target level.
Level 60 Demonology Warlock PvE Build — Theorycraft
This is level-60 theorycraft, not a solved raid build. Final raid encounters, stat budgets, pet scaling, Hit requirements, and beta tuning can still change the optimal allocation.
The most interesting current Shadow-oriented framework is 0/31/20. It reaches Demonic Pact, keeps a demon active through Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge, and Master Demonologist, then invests the remaining 20 points into the Shadow Bolt and Crit package in Destruction.

Warlock Demonology talent build — Affliction 0, Demonology 30, Destruction 20.
0 / 30 / 20 Key talents: Soul Link, Demonic Sacrifice, Master Demonologist 5/5, Demonic Embrace 5/5, Demonic Knowledge 3/3, Improved Sayaad 3/3| Key Talent | Role in the Build |
|---|---|
| Demonic Pact | Lets Demonic Sacrifice remain when you summon a different demon. Resummoning the demon that was sacrificed cancels the buff. |
| Demonic Sacrifice | Provides a two-hour buff based on the sacrificed demon: Imp gives Shadow damage, Sayaad gives Fire damage, Voidwalker gives Mana regeneration, and Felhunter gives Health regeneration. |
| Master Demonologist | Changes with your active demon. At 5/5, Sayaad increases Shadow damage by 10% while Imp increases Fire damage by 10%. |
| Soul Link | Transfers 30% of your incoming damage to your active demon and increases both your damage and your demon’s damage by 3%. |
| Demonic Knowledge | Increases your Spell Damage and your demon’s spell damage while an active demon is present. |
| Demonic Energies | Turns your own damage and Life Tap into passive demon sustain, reducing the amount of time the pet spends without Mana or waiting for healing. |
| Decimation | Creates the execute-phase Soul Fire loop below 35% target health. |
| Improved Shadow Bolt | Supports the Shadow-focused filler package and rewards Shadow Bolt Crits. |
| Ruin | Improves the critical-damage payoff of Destruction spells, especially Shadow Bolt and Soul Fire. |
The Shadow Demonic Pact Pairing
The most important part of the build is understanding that the sacrificed demon and active demon are two different choices.
- Summon an Imp.
- Use Demonic Sacrifice to gain 15% increased Shadow damage.
- Summon a Succubus / Incubus.
- Demonic Pact preserves the Imp sacrifice because the new demon is different.
- 5/5 Master Demonologist adds another 10% Shadow damage while the Sayaad is active.
- Soul Link adds another 3% damage while also providing damage transfer.
Those modifiers are multiplicative rather than simply additive, so 1.15 × 1.10 × 1.03 ≈ 1.303: roughly 30% more Shadow damage before other modifiers are considered. You also keep the Sayaad’s own damage and the benefits of Demonic Knowledge.
A Fire-oriented version can reverse the relationship: sacrifice the Sayaad for 15% Fire damage, then summon the Imp for the Fire bonus from Master Demonologist. Whether a Fire configuration can outperform the Shadow Bolt framework will depend on final tuning and encounter design.
Level 60 Demonology Warlock PvP Build — Theorycraft
A current PvP framework is 16/35/0. It combines Affliction utility — instant Corruption, stronger curses, channel protection, and Curse of Exhaustion — with the survivability and pet control of deep Demonology.
- ★ A new talent introduced with WoW Forever.
- ★ A talent that has been modified compared to Classic.
Warlock Demonology talent build — Affliction 16, Demonology 34, Destruction 0.
16 / 34 / 0 Key talents: Soul Link, Fel Domination, Demonic Sacrifice, Master Demonologist 5/5, Demonic Embrace 5/5, Improved Felhunter 3/3The active demon should change with the matchup. A Felhunter gains improved anti-caster utility through Improved Felhunter and 5/5 Master Demonologist reduces Magic damage taken while it is active. Against physical pressure, the Voidwalker’s Master Demonologist effect reduces Physical damage taken instead.
Fel Domination is especially important in PvP because killing your demon removes a large part of your defensive package. Use it to recover quickly after a pet is killed or when you urgently need a different demon.
Community Demonology Builds Worth Watching
| Build | Focus | What It Tells Us | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure Demonology at Level 20 | Unholy Power + Fel Vitality + Demonic Energies | A strong spec-focused leveling setup built around pet damage and the new dual-resource mechanics. | Icy Veins / Crix |
| Suppression + Unholy Power at Level 20 | Same-level Hit reliability + pet damage | A practical alternative if missed spells matter more than deeper pet sustain. | Wowhead Level 20 Guide |
| 0/31/20 Shadow Pact | Demonic Pact + Sayaad + Shadow Bolt / Ruin | The clearest current level-60 PvE framework for exploiting the Imp-sacrifice / active-Sayaad pairing. | Community PvE Theorycraft |
| 16/35/0 Soul Link PvP | Control, survivability, Felhunter utility | Shows how deep Demonology can be paired with Affliction control rather than a pure damage off-tree. | Community PvP Theorycraft |
Important: community level-60 builds are useful for discovering interactions, but several were published before the latest beta corrections. Always verify their talent descriptions against the current beta client rather than copying the written rotation verbatim.
Best Race for Demonology Warlock in WoW Forever
Race tuning is still beta-sensitive. Demonology also adds an extra uncertainty because the exact way temporary player buffs feed into every part of pet scaling needs more live testing.
| Race | Why It Works | Best Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Gnome | Eureka! provides an offensive spell window with reduced Mana costs, while Expansive Mind increases the Warlock’s Mana pool. | Alliance PvE / leveling |
| Human | Will to Survive provides a Stun break, and Sword Specialization can contribute spell Crit with an appropriate weapon. | Alliance PvP / utility |
| Orc | Blood Fury now provides Spell Power to the Warlock in addition to Attack Power. Orc also has useful PvP tools such as Shatter Curse. | Horde throughput |
| Undead | Will of the Forsaken remains valuable against Fear, Charm, and Sleep, while Cannibalize provides useful leveling recovery. | Horde PvP / leveling |
| Troll | Berserking improves normal cast speed, but current testing indicates it does not accelerate DoTs, channels, or pet attacks. | Niche cast-focused setups |
Current takeaway: Gnome has a straightforward Alliance caster package, while Orc has a strong Horde offensive racial. For PvP, Human and Undead utility can matter more than small theoretical damage differences. Do not choose a race solely around an assumed pet-scaling interaction that has not been conclusively tested.
Best Professions for Demonology Warlock in WoW Forever
The profession system has changed substantially and the level-60 recipe pool is not fully solved, so these combinations should be treated as current beta directions rather than permanent BiS choices.
| Profession Setup | Why It Fits Demonology |
|---|---|
| Tailoring + Engineering | Currently has the highest suspected offensive ceiling. Tailoring adds cloth embroidery including Spell Power, while Engineering contributes bombs and encounter utility. |
| Tailoring + Enchanting | A self-contained caster route with cloth crafting, embroidery, ring enchants, and the ability to disenchant your own crafted gear. |
| Tailoring / Engineering + Mining | Mining’s +5% total Health is interesting for Demonology because additional Health interacts naturally with Life Tap and the spec’s high survivability. |
| Enchanting while leveling | Provides early access to important wand upgrades such as the Greater Magic Wand. |
Demonology Warlock Stat Priority and Gear
Level 20 Stat Priority
A practical current-beta priority is:
Needed Spell Hit > Spell Power > Critical Strike > Intellect / Stamina
The exact ordering changes depending on talents and the level of the enemy you are fighting.
- Spell Hit: very strong until you are reliably hitting your target. 4/5 Suppression currently handles the same-level Hit requirement if you choose that route.
- Spell Power: improves your spells and also matters more than in original Classic because Forever demons scale from the player’s stats and wands scale with Spell Power.
- Critical Strike: useful for direct spell damage and becomes more attractive in level-60 Ruin / Improved Shadow Bolt theorycraft.
- Intellect: increases your Mana pool, giving you more room between Life Taps.
- Stamina: supports Demonology’s naturally durable playstyle and provides a larger Health buffer for Life Tap.
Do not assume every point of Spell Power transfers one-for-one into pet damage. Forever exposes demon scaling in the character pane, and the correct way to evaluate a pet upgrade is to compare the demon’s actual stats before and after equipping the item.
Level 20 Gear Priorities
| Priority | What to Look For |
|---|---|
| Wand | Upgrade it early. Current testing places wand damage close enough to low-level spell filler that the Mana-free auto attack is a major part of Warlock leveling. |
| Spell Power | Improves both active spell damage and wand damage while also participating in the new demon-scaling system. |
| Hit | Valuable when you are not already covering the relevant target-level requirement through Suppression. |
| Intellect / Stamina | Useful secondary stats for maintaining your Health-to-Mana resource loop. |
At level 20, the Greater Magic Wand remains a particularly important early crafted upgrade. Do not blindly copy an original-Classic BiS list because Forever has changed item stats and introduced new gear.
Level 60 Stat Priority — Provisional
For the current 0/31/20 Shadow theorycraft, a sensible starting point is:
Spell Hit to the relevant cap > Shadow / general Spell Power > Critical Strike > Intellect / Stamina
This build does not invest in Suppression, so missing Shadow Bolts becomes expensive. Crit also gains value from Ruin and Improved Shadow Bolt. Final stat weights require level-60 raid testing and should not be treated as solved yet.
Demonology Warlock Rotation in WoW Forever
Level 20 Solo Rotation
- Choose the demon for the pull: Sayaad for damage or Voidwalker when you need a tank.
- Send your demon to the target first.
- Apply Bane of Agony early because its damage ramps over time.
- Apply Corruption.
- Add Immolate if the enemy will live long enough for the additional Mana and global cooldown to pay off.
- Use your wand as your normal efficient filler.
- Use Life Tap when you need Mana. With Demonic Energies, this also restores Mana to your active demon.
- Use Drain Soul on selected kills when you need Soul Shards.
Do not over-DoT short-lived mobs. If Bane of Agony or Immolate will barely tick before the target dies, let your demon, Corruption, and wand finish the enemy instead of wasting Mana.
Using the Voidwalker Efficiently
The Voidwalker is much more practical in Forever because its threat generation is strong enough to tank normal leveling enemies. Let it establish threat before your highest-threat direct spells, then use DoTs and your wand while it holds the target.
If the Voidwalker loses Health, your own spell damage can heal it automatically through Demonic Energies. This means continuing to deal damage can sometimes be more efficient than immediately stopping to channel Health Funnel.
Level 20 Dungeon and Boss Rotation
- Use the Sayaad when it can remain safely on the target.
- Apply Bane of Agony.
- Apply Corruption.
- Add Immolate on targets that will live for most of its duration.
- Apply the utility Curse your group needs. Curse of the Elements supports caster-heavy groups, while Curse of Recklessness can support physical damage.
- Wand during normal filler time instead of spending Mana unnecessarily.
- Keep the demon positioned away from dangerous ground effects and unwanted packs.
Remember that Forever separates damaging Banes from utility Curses. You can keep Bane of Agony on a boss while also supplying the Curse your group needs.
Level 60 Shadow Demonic Pact Rotation — Current Theorycraft
Before the Pull
- Summon the Imp.
- Use Demonic Sacrifice to gain the Shadow-damage buff.
- Summon the Sayaad. Do not resummon the Imp, because that would cancel the sacrifice.
- Activate Soul Link.
- Make sure the Sayaad has enough Mana and is positioned where it can safely reach the target.
Normal Phase
- Apply the assigned utility Curse.
- Maintain your appropriate Bane.
- Maintain Corruption when its full duration is worthwhile.
- Use Shadow Bolt as the main Shadow filler.
- Use Life Tap when safe, ideally when both you and the demon can benefit from the Mana provided through Demonic Energies.
- Reposition the demon proactively instead of waiting for it to stand in lethal encounter mechanics.
Decimation Phase
When the target drops below 35% Health, a hit from Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain activates Decimation.
- The current proc window lasts 10 seconds.
- Soul Fire has its cast time reduced by 40%.
- Soul Fire costs no Soul Shard during the effect.
- Decimation reduces Soul Fire’s cooldown by 90%, leaving a cooldown rather than allowing continuous back-to-back Soul Fires.
Because the current Soul Fire cooldown still prevents constant chaining, the final optimal execute weave will need actual level-60 testing. Expect Soul Fire to become an important execute button rather than replacing every filler cast.
How Demonology's Two-Demon Endgame Loop Works
Demonic Pact turns pet choice into two separate decisions: which demon you sacrifice for a two-hour buff, and which different demon you keep active for Master Demonologist, Soul Link, Demonic Knowledge, utility, and pet damage.
Advanced Demonology Mechanics You Should Know
1. Demonic Pact Is a Two-Demon System
The most important Demonology mechanic is easy to misunderstand. Demonic Pact does not simply let you sacrifice a demon and summon it again.
Instead:
- Sacrifice Demon A.
- Summon Demon B.
- You keep Demon A’s Demonic Sacrifice buff and gain Demon B’s active-demon benefits.
- If you resummon Demon A, the sacrifice buff is cancelled.
This effectively gives Demonology two independent loadout slots: a sacrifice buff and an active-pet package.
| Sacrificed Demon | Demonic Sacrifice Effect | Example Active Demon | Master Demonologist Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Imp | +15% Shadow damage | Sayaad | +10% Shadow damage |
| Sayaad | +15% Fire damage | Imp | +10% Fire damage |
| Voidwalker | 2% total Mana every 4 sec | Felhunter | 10% less Magic damage taken |
| Felhunter | 3% total Health every 4 sec | Voidwalker | 10% less Physical damage taken |
This makes the system much more flexible than simply asking “which pet is best?” The correct question is often which pet should I sacrifice, and which different pet should I actively use?
2. Demonic Energies Turns Life Tap into a Two-Mana-Bar Button
At 2/2, Demonic Energies does two separate things:
- Your spell damage heals your active demon for 15% of the damage dealt.
- Whenever Life Tap restores Mana to you, the demon receives 100% of that Mana gain up to its maximum Mana.
This changes Life Tap timing. If your demon is already nearly full on Mana, tapping immediately captures only the player-side value. If both Mana bars have room, the same Life Tap effectively restores resources to two characters at once.
For demons that repeatedly spend Mana on offensive abilities, this can translate directly into additional pet casts over a long encounter.
3. Pet Positioning Is a Damage Mechanic
Forever replaces the old Stay command with Move To, allowing you to click a ground location and send the demon there.
For Demonology this matters more than it does for other Warlock builds. Losing the active demon can simultaneously cost:
- the demon’s personal DPS;
- Soul Link;
- Master Demonologist;
- Demonic Knowledge;
- the healing and Mana interaction from Demonic Energies.
Moving a demon out of a boss mechanic before it takes lethal damage can therefore produce more DPS than squeezing in one additional player cast.
4. Decimation Has Changed — Do Not Use the Old 70% / 20-Second Version
Some early community theorycraft still describes Decimation as activating below 70% target Health and lasting 20 seconds. That information is obsolete in the current beta.
The current build uses:
- below 35% target Health;
- 10-second proc window;
- Shadow Bolt or Searing Pain as the trigger;
- 40% reduced Soul Fire cast time;
- no Soul Shard cost during the proc;
- 90% Soul Fire cooldown reduction.
The web tooltip currently displays an inconsistent damage-modifier value while the underlying rank data shows a separate modifier. Until the client and external tooltip presentation agree, build decisions should be based on the confirmed execute threshold, cast-time, shard-cost, and cooldown mechanics rather than hardcoding the disputed damage number.
5. Demonic Brand Could Create a Pet-Threat / Pet-Damage Weave
Demonic Brand is one of Demonology’s most experimental new talents. It modifies Searing Pain so it produces less threat from the Warlock and brands the target. The demon’s next attacks against that target gain additional threat and damage.
This creates two possible future uses:
- helping a Voidwalker hold dangerous targets;
- weaving Searing Pain into a damage rotation if the extra pet attacks prove strong enough to justify the player cast.
Whether the second use is a real level-60 DPS gain requires beta testing. Do not automatically add Searing Pain to every rotation simply because the talent exists.
Useful Demonology Warlock Pet Macros
Pet Attack
#showtooltip
/petattack
Bind this separately from your normal spells so you can send the demon to a target before your own damage begins.
Pet Follow
#showtooltip
/petfollow
Use this to immediately disengage the demon from a dangerous target or pull it out of an unwanted pack. For precise encounter positioning, also bind the new Move To pet command.
What Changed for Demonology Warlock in WoW Forever?
| Change | Why It Matters |
|---|---|
| Warlock demons scale with player stats | Gear now affects the demon much more directly, and the pet’s scaling can be inspected through the character pane. |
| Demonic Pact added | Deep Demonology can benefit from Demonic Sacrifice while still using a different active demon. |
| Demonic Sacrifice redesigned | Imp now grants Shadow damage, Sayaad grants Fire damage, Voidwalker restores Mana, and Felhunter restores Health. The buff lasts two hours. |
| Demonic Energies added | Your spell damage heals the demon and Life Tap can restore both your Mana and your demon’s Mana at the same time. |
| Decimation added | Demonology gains an execute-phase Soul Fire mechanic below 35% target Health. |
| Demonic Brand added | Searing Pain can mark enemies for increased demon threat and additional pet damage. |
| Master Demonologist effects changed | Imp increases Fire damage, Sayaad increases Shadow damage, Voidwalker reduces Physical damage taken, and Felhunter reduces Magic damage taken. |
| Stay replaced by Move To | Warlocks can place demons much more precisely, which matters when the pet represents a large percentage of the build’s total value. |
| Damage Curses became Banes | Bane of Agony can coexist with utility Curses, so Warlocks no longer sacrifice personal damage to provide their group’s Curse. |
| Unholy Power moved earlier and changed | It is now accessible during the level-20 beta and provides up to 10% demon damage. |
Best Legacy Perks for Demonology Warlock
Legacy progression is account-wide, but its points can be allocated differently per character. For Demonology, early talent access and reduced leveling downtime are especially useful.
| Legacy Perk | Why Demonology Likes It |
|---|---|
| Talented | Lets class talent points arrive earlier during leveling, which can unlock Improved Sayaad and other pet upgrades sooner. |
| Thrill of Adventure | Provides open-world Health and Mana recovery after qualifying kills, fitting the Life Tap leveling loop well. |
| Well Rested | Improves rested-experience accumulation and cap, useful for alts or characters leveled in shorter sessions. |
| High Alert | A situational open-world option when detecting stealthed opponents matters. |
The extra class talent points available early through Legacy do not increase the final level-60 talent total beyond 51. They simply let you reach talents sooner while leveling.
