To get the Dalaran Sewer Key in WoW Forever, follow the access quests for your faction until you can accept Heart of Disruption from the Image of Archmage Modera near Lordamere Lake. The key is a provided item when you accept that quest, not a reward for finishing the dungeon. Alliance has a short route from Southshore; Horde must first complete a longer route from Tarren Mill.
Blizzard lists City of Dalaran for levels 28–33 in the Alterac Mountains and confirms a faction-specific attunement before the sewer entrance. This is a recommended dungeon range, not proof that every character at level 28 can start the quests. The opening quests currently show a level 30 requirement in Forever quest records. The route below reflects the pre-launch client data as of October 27, 2026.
Dalaran Sewer Key at a Glance
| Faction | Start here | Key handoff |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Emissary Jacques, Southshore: An Alarming Request (#92432) | Accept Heart of Disruption (#92458) from Modera. |
| Horde | Magus Wordeen Voidglare, Tarren Mill: Key to the City (#93680) and Prison Break In (#544) | Work through the Wordeen route, then accept Heart of Disruption (#96984) from Modera. |
Entrance: the warded sewer gate outside Dalaran, near the Image of Archmage Modera on the Lordamere Lake side of the city. Key item: Dalaran Sewer Key (#277507). The Horde’s earlier Grimy Key is a quest item used on the way here; it is not the final key that opens Modera’s ward.
You can earn the key yourself using the steps below. If you are planning a paid dungeon clear instead, check the service’s current availability and access requirements first. Buying a clear does not automatically complete the key questline.
Choose Your Next Dalaran Run
The quest route below is the way to earn your own key. If your character already has dungeon access, compare the current run options; a dungeon clear does not include the attunement chain.
Alliance Dalaran Access Quest Route
The Alliance route has two key steps. Do not skip the Southshore introduction just because Modera is visible beside Dalaran: An Alarming Request is the recorded lead-in to her dungeon quest.
| Quest | What to do | Hand-in / result |
|---|---|---|
| An Alarming Request #92432 | Speak to Emissary Jacques in the Southshore town hall, Hillsbrad Foothills (approximately 48.3, 60.1 on the Hillsbrad map). Travel toward Dalaran and Lordamere Lake. | Report to the Image of Archmage Modera by the lakeside (approximately 68.6, 45.2 on the Silverpine Forest map). This introduces Heart of Disruption. |
| Heart of Disruption #92458 | Accept the quest from Modera. It provides your Dalaran Sewer Key immediately. Its subsequent dungeon objective is to collect one Arcane Mote. | Keep Heart of Disruption in your quest log and use the sewer key to enter. The Arcane Mote and quest hand-in are a later step, not the condition for initially receiving the key. |
If you have just turned in An Alarming Request, speak to Modera again and check her available quests before leaving. The follow-up Friend of the Kirin Tor concerns progression after Heart of Disruption; it is not another prerequisite for receiving the sewer key.
Horde Dalaran Access Quest Route
Horde characters begin with two quests from Magus Wordeen Voidglare in Tarren Mill, Hillsbrad Foothills (approximately 61.6, 20.8). Take both before traveling to the Lordamere Internment Camp in the Alterac Mountains. They are parallel starting tasks; they are not an Alliance-style handoff directly to Modera.
1. Collect the Grimy Key and Four Bloodstone Artifacts
- Key to the City (#93680): locate the Grimy Key in the Warden’s Footlocker at the Lordamere Internment Camp, then return to Wordeen. Beta route reports place the footlocker inside a camp building, around 16, 88 on the Alterac Mountains map. This is the intermediate key used in the quest, not the final Dalaran Sewer Key.
- Prison Break In (#544): recover the Bloodstone Wedge, Marble, Shard and Oval from the four Forsaken traitors in and around the same camp. Return all four artifacts to Wordeen. One target is upstairs in the taller building, so check both buildings before leaving.
Efficient route: pick up both quests in Tarren Mill, do the two camp objectives in one trip, and turn them in together. Do not assume a missing Grimy Key can be replaced by the later Dalaran Sewer Key.
2. Clear Dalaran Patrols, Then Meet Modera
| Quest | Objective and next contact |
|---|---|
| Dalaran Patrols #545 | After Prison Break In, take this from Wordeen. Defeat six Dalaran Summoners and the Elemental Slaves required by your quest tracker around the Dalaran ruins. Published pre-release records differ on the Elemental Slave count. Return to Wordeen in Tarren Mill. |
| Blood in the Streets #92434 | After completing the Wordeen tasks, take the new Dalaran lead from him. Travel to the sewer-side lakeshore and hand the quest in to the Image of Archmage Modera (approximately 68.6, 45.2 on the Silverpine Forest map). This quest provides the Grimy Key for the approach, but Modera’s magical ward still requires her own key. |
3. Accept Heart of Disruption to Receive the Sewer Key
After turning in Blood in the Streets, accept the Horde version of Heart of Disruption (#96984) from Modera. The quest record lists Dalaran Sewer Key as a provided item. You can now attempt the sewer gate; the dungeon objective is to acquire an Arcane Mote and ultimately report back to Wordeen in Tarren Mill.
Do you also need Stone Tokens or Bracers of Binding? Those quests come from Keeper Bel’varil in Tarren Mill and may be convenient while you are in the same area. They are not confirmed as required for the sewer-key chain. If Wordeen has not offered the next quest, first verify the two starting quests and Dalaran Patrols, rather than treating every nearby quest as a mandatory prerequisite.
When You Receive the Key and Where to Enter
The moment to check your keyring is when you accept Heart of Disruption from the Image of Archmage Modera. Alliance and Horde have different quest IDs, but both records list the Dalaran Sewer Key as a Provided item. Completing Heart of Disruption later requires the Arcane Mote; the key itself is not listed among the completion rewards.
- Reach Modera: follow the shore of Lordamere Lake toward the exterior northwest side of Dalaran. Her image is near the sewer entrance. The nearby map pin is approximately 68.6, 45.2 on the Silverpine Forest map; coordinate systems differ when the boundary appears on the Alterac Mountains map.
- Accept Heart of Disruption: confirm that the key appears in your keyring or inventory.
- Go to the warded sewer gate: interact with the gate and enter the dungeon with your group. Beta guides report that a player with the key can open the gate for the party; do not treat this as a confirmed permanent rule for the November 4 release client.
If you are Horde, the Grimy Key from the camp is not a substitute for the Dalaran Sewer Key. Modera’s dialogue in Blood in the Streets specifically explains why that first key cannot bypass her wards.
Dungeon Access vs Dalaran City Services
The Dalaran Sewer Key addresses entry to the City of Dalaran dungeon. It does not establish that your faction can freely use open-world Dalaran’s trainers, vendors, guards, bank-like services, or other city features.
This matters especially for the Horde. Blizzard’s October 15 beta notes restricted Horde access to open-world Dalaran while explicitly leaving dungeon access intact. Other reports describe later quest-specific changes to how the city reacts after a dungeon clear. Neither makes unrestricted city access a safe promise for launch. Treat those as separate outcomes, and use the sewer route rather than relying on a guard shortcut.
If your goal is the instance rather than city exploration, finish the access route and prepare your party. For a broader comparison of other instances and level ranges, use the WoW Forever Dungeons Guide.
Before Booking a City of Dalaran Run
The main reason to prepare the key early is to avoid reaching a scheduled group without access. Before choosing a City of Dalaran run or browsing WoW Forever Dungeon Runs, confirm these details:
- Faction and quest progress: Alliance needs the Southshore introduction; Horde should check both starting quests and the Wordeen follow-ups.
- Character readiness: check your actual level, active game version and the dungeon’s availability. Blizzard’s 28–33 rating is planning guidance, not a purchase eligibility guarantee.
- Access and group: confirm that the keyholder can use the sewer gate under the rules of the current client. Having a quest in your log is not the same as already holding the key.
- Service scope: general Dungeon Runs requires an already eligible character and does not include key or attunement quest services. For the named City of Dalaran offer, check current slot availability or contact support before arranging a run.
Want to save time on dungeon group formation after you are ready? See the City of Dalaran service for the named dungeon, or choose a different eligible clear through Dungeon Runs. Neither page should be treated as proof that the quest chain is included in a standard clear.
Dalaran Sewer Key FAQ
Why can’t I see An Alarming Request or Heart of Disruption on Alliance?
Check your level and whether you already accepted or completed An Alarming Request. Start with Emissary Jacques in Southshore, then talk to Modera by Lordamere Lake. If the introduction is already completed, look for Heart of Disruption in your quest log before assuming the NPC is missing.
Why isn’t Magus Wordeen Voidglare offering the Horde follow-up?
Confirm that both Key to the City and Prison Break In were handled, and that Dalaran Patrols is no longer active. Check whether Blood in the Streets is already in your log. The two opening quests are separate tasks; do not try to complete the Alliance route on a Horde character.
I have the Grimy Key. Why won’t the sewer gate open?
The Grimy Key belongs to the Horde’s earlier Wordeen tasks. The gate requires the Dalaran Sewer Key provided when you accept the Horde’s Heart of Disruption from Modera. Open your keyring or bags and check the item’s full name.
Do I need to finish Heart of Disruption to get the key?
No. Current Forever records list the key as a Provided item on both faction versions. Accepting Heart of Disruption grants the key; completing the quest’s Arcane Mote objective is a later task. This distinction is based on pre-release quest records and should be rechecked after launch.
Does every group member need their own sewer key?
Beta dungeon guidance reports that one player with the key can open the gate for a group. Blizzard has not confirmed this as the final release entry rule. For reliable planning, confirm the requirement in your current client and have your own key if you want independent access.
Will a purchased dungeon run get my key for me?
Not automatically. LepreStore’s general Dungeon Runs listing explicitly excludes key and attunement quests. Confirm the scope of any named City of Dalaran service with support rather than assuming a clear also finishes your access chain.
Quest names, item records and faction routes were checked against WoW Forever pre-release data on October 27, 2026. The announced launch is November 4, 2026; quest availability, coordinates and group-entry behavior may change with the release client.
