Elemental Shaman is a ranged spell damage specialization built around Lightning Bolt, Flame Shock, Shocks, and elemental totems. It fights best when it can prepare a position, cast from range, and use the right utility for the encounter. Healing spells, Purge, an interrupt, slows, and resurrection also let Elemental support a group without giving up its damage role.
WoW Forever speeds up the core Lightning casts, replaces Fire Nova Totem with a spell centered on an active Fire Totem, and adds modern totem controls. The new Elemental tree later connects Flame Shock to Lava Burst while Lightning Overload and Elemental Alacrity strengthen the Lightning side of the kit. This guide covers the current level 20 beta, level 60 theorycraft, races, professions, stats, rotation, Legacy perks, and the most important differences from Classic.
Elemental Shaman at a Glance
Elemental Shaman Strengths and Weaknesses
Elemental brings ranged damage, healing, interrupts, and adaptable totems, but early Mana limits and stationary casting demand planning.
- Long casts lose value when enemies force movement or reach melee range.
- Mana can run dry during repeated pulls, heavy off-healing, or careless Shock use.
- The level 20 beta stops before Chain Lightning and the defining Lava Burst capstone.
- Totems cost Mana and may need repositioning when the group moves.
- Strong ranged pull pattern with Lightning Bolt, Flame Shock, and Searing Totem.
- Fire Nova provides practical early AoE around an active Fire Totem.
- Purge, Earth Shock, slows, heals, and resurrection give valuable group utility.
- Forever adds faster casts, better totem control, and a clear Fire plus Lightning endgame loop.
The largest early tradeoff is Mana. Extra damage shortens a fight, but unnecessary totems, frequent Shocks, and off-healing can remove the time saved by forcing a drink after every pull. Elemental becomes more complete after Chain Lightning and the level 40 Lava Burst capstone are available.
Best Elemental Shaman Talent Builds in WoW Forever
Elemental Shaman Leveling Build
The current beta cap is level 20, which gives a normal character 11 talent points. This 11/0/0 starter build takes 5/5 Concussion, 3/3 Call of Flame, 2/3 Elemental Warding, and Elemental Focus. Spend the first five points in Concussion, add Call of Flame, place two points in Elemental Warding, then take Elemental Focus at level 20. The result improves every Lightning Bolt, strengthens Flame Shock, Searing Totem, and Fire Nova, and adds a useful clearcasting proc.
The two Elemental Warding points are flexible. Move them into Convection if Mana efficiency is causing more downtime than incoming damage. After the current cap, continue down Elemental toward Elemental Fury, Call of Thunder, Elemental Reach, Lightning Overload, Elemental Alacrity, and Lava Burst.

Level 60 PvE Elemental Shaman Build: 31/7/13
This level 60 build is theorycraft until players can test raids and final tuning. Its 31 Elemental points fund Lava Burst, Lightning Overload, Elemental Alacrity, Elemental Reach, Call of Thunder, Improved Fire Nova, and Elemental Fury. Seven Enhancement points add 5% spell critical strike through Thundering Strikes and make Ghost Wolf instant and usable indoors. Restoration supplies faster Healing Wave casts, 50% Mana regeneration while casting from Mindfulness, and 5% spell hit from Tidal Focus.
The build aims at reliable raid casting rather than niche control. Its opportunity cost is losing Nature’s Swiftness, Healing Focus, and Earthbound. It currently matches the most-viewed complete Elemental allocation in the public calculator, but that popularity is not a performance result.

Shaman Elemental Combat talent build — Elemental Combat 31, Enhancement 7, Restoration 13.
31 / 7 / 13 Key talents: Lava Burst, Elemental Fury 5/5, Convection 5/5, Concussion 5/5, Elemental Alacrity 3/3, Lightning Overload 3/3Level 60 PvP Elemental Shaman Build: 31/6/14
This PvP theorycraft keeps Lava Burst, Lightning Overload, Elemental Alacrity, Elemental Reach, and Call of Thunder, then changes several supporting points. Eye of the Storm protects key casts after taking critical hits, Earthbound adds a root around Earthbind Totem, Healing Focus resists pushback while healing, and Nature’s Swiftness creates an instant emergency heal or Nature spell. Improved Reincarnation also reduces the cost of recovering in formats where Reincarnation is usable.
The cost is lower sustained Mana regeneration, less Fire Nova support, and only 3% spell hit from Tidal Focus. Those losses are reasonable when control and an instant defensive response decide more fights than uninterrupted damage. This allocation currently matches the second most-viewed complete Elemental community build.

Best Race for Elemental Shaman in WoW Forever
No race can be called the final best choice before level 60 testing. Tauren has the cleanest general caster benefit through Hit, while Orc and Troll offer active burst. Skyborne provides passive Haste, and Dwarf is the only Alliance option.
| Race | Relevant Racials | What Elemental Gets |
|---|---|---|
| Dwarf | Stoneform, Mace Specialization | Stoneform clears poisons, diseases, and bleeds while reducing Physical damage. Maces can add 1% spell and ability critical strike. |
| Orc | Blood Fury, Shatter Curse, Hardiness | Blood Fury adds a planned spell-power burst. Curse immunity, magic reduction, and shorter stuns help protect casts in PvP. |
| Tauren | War Stomp, Endurance | Endurance gives 1% Hit and extra health. War Stomp creates room for a heal or cast when enemies reach melee range. |
| Troll | Berserking, Rapid Regeneration | Berserking provides an on-demand spell Haste window. Rapid Regeneration supports recovery between dangerous exchanges. |
| Skyborne | Wind Blessed, Elemental Insight, Skysight | Passive 1% Haste always helps casting. Skysight adds movement speed, while Elemental Insight gives situational damage against Elementals. |
Best Professions for Elemental Shaman
Skinning and Leatherworking are the simplest self-sufficient leveling pair. They turn gathered hides into leather armor and later Mail pieces. Herbalism and Alchemy support Mana, healing, and combat performance through potions and elixirs. Mining and Engineering are the stronger utility choice for dedicated PvP, adding grenades, target dummies, and situational gadgets, but they require more materials and gold.
Elemental Shaman Stat Priority and Leveling Gear
A practical current-beta leveling order is Spell Power > Spell Hit > Haste > Spell Critical Strike > Intellect > Mana per 5 seconds > Spirit > Stamina. This is not a finished raid stat weight. Spell Power improves damage directly, Hit prevents costly misses, and Haste shortens stationary casts. Intellect expands the Mana pool and adds some spell critical strike value, while Mp5 reduces downtime during longer fights.
Do not reject a large Intellect or mixed-stat upgrade because it lacks perfect caster stats. While leveling, equip the piece that gives the best useful total and keep enough Stamina to survive accidental pulls. A one-handed caster weapon plus shield gives more defense; a staff is fine when its spell stats are clearly better. Keep current spell ranks trained because a good item cannot compensate for outdated Lightning Bolt, Shock, or healing ranks.
Elemental Shaman Rotation in WoW Forever
At level 20, start from maximum Lightning Bolt range and avoid paying for totems that will affect only one weak enemy. For a longer pull or dungeon pack, set the useful Earth and Water effects, place Searing Totem last, and keep enemies near it. Flame Shock is valuable when its full duration can tick. Fire Nova is early AoE, but it requires an active Fire Totem and enemies close to that totem.
Elemental Shaman Action Priority
Use this as a priority list, not a fixed cast sequence.
At higher levels, Chain Lightning becomes the cleave cast. Lava Burst becomes a priority single-target spell when Flame Shock is active because Forever gives it 20% extra damage in that condition. Movement remains the main disruption, so use Shocks, totem tools, and instant utility while repositioning instead of cancelling repeated long casts.
What Changed for Elemental Shaman in WoW Forever?
| Change | WoW Forever |
|---|---|
| Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning | Maximum-rank Lightning Bolt has a 2.5-second cast, and Chain Lightning is 0.5 seconds faster before talent reductions. |
| Fire Nova | Fire Nova is an instant spell that makes the active Fire Totem damage nearby enemies. It is no longer a separate totem with its own placement delay. |
| Totem control | Call of the Elements places a saved totem set. Totemic Projection moves active totems, while Totemic Recall recovers part of their cost. |
| Improved Ghost Wolf | Ghost Wolf has a 2-second baseline cast. The talent makes it instant and allows indoor use, giving Elemental a meaningful movement option. |
Key New and Reworked Elemental Shaman Talents
| Talent | Forever Effect |
|---|---|
| Lava Burst | A 2.5-second Fire cast with a 10-second cooldown. It deals 20% more damage when the Shaman’s Flame Shock is on the target. |
| Lightning Overload | Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning can create a second cast that deals half damage, costs no Mana, and causes no threat. |
| Elemental Alacrity | Reduces the cast time of Lightning Bolt, Chain Lightning, and Lava Burst by up to 0.5 seconds. |
| Earthbound | Earthbind Totem roots nearby enemies for 5 seconds when placed, adding a strong control tool. |
| Mindfulness | Restoration support talent that allows up to 50% of normal Mana regeneration to continue while casting. |
Best Legacy Perks for Elemental Shaman
Start the Adventure path with Well Rested, then unlock Talented. Well Rested increases the rate and storage cap of rested experience, while Talented lets the character begin spending talent points at level 9 instead of level 10. It moves the leveling curve forward but does not raise the final 51-point talent budget.
Thrill of Adventure is the practical alternative for active grinding because kills against nontrivial enemies restore health and Mana over time. Its recovery does not work in dungeons, raids, or battlegrounds, so it is weaker for group-focused leveling. Current launch rules limit the number of obtainable Legacy points, which means the recommendation is a path priority rather than a promise that every useful perk can be completed immediately.
