Ascendant Voidshards are one of the most important upgrade materials in WoW Midnight Season 1. If you care about pushing more damage, healing harder, or squeezing extra power from your best items, you will want them sooner rather than later. The idea is simple. You collect 5 Ascendant Voidshards, combine them into 1 Ascendant Voidcore, then use that Voidcore to upgrade an eligible weapon or trinket. This works only on fully upgraded Hero track items, Myth track items, or maximum quality Radiance Crafted weapons and trinkets from Midnight Season 1.
That means you should not waste Ascendant Voidcores on random gear. These upgrades matter most when used on strong weapons and trinkets you plan to keep for a long time. If your weapon is already one of your best pieces, or your trinket is core for your build, that is where the real value is.
The good news is that farming Ascendant Voidshards is much better now than it was at the start. After the hotfix, several endgame activities give guaranteed shards, so you no longer need to pray for random drops from every small activity on the map.
The fastest way to farm Ascendant Voidshards depends on your character, your group, and how much time you want to spend. Some sources are limited, but very fast. Others can be repeated as many times as you want, but require better gear or a solid team.
Here is the best order for most players.
Nightmare Prey is one of the easiest first stops. The Nightmare Prey Champion gear boxes have a guaranteed Ascendant Voidshard drop, but you can only get this reward twice per week.
That makes it a perfect weekly opener. Log in, complete your Nightmare Prey runs, grab your shards, and move on. It is not enough to finish the full grind by itself, but it gives you a fast start with very little wasted time.
Tier 11 Bountiful Delves are another strong source because their final Bountiful chest gives a guaranteed Ascendant Voidshard. The catch is simple: you need Coffer Keys, and you need to handle Tier 11 without turning every run into a long mess.
For many players, this is the best solo-friendly farm. You can move at your own pace, avoid pug drama, and still make steady progress. If your character can clear Tier 11 Delves fast, do them before you start gambling on lower-value activities.
Mythic+ is the best repeatable farm for Ascendant Voidshards. A completed +10 or higher key gives a guaranteed shard from the end-of-dungeon chest, and there is no weekly cap on this source. This is where serious farming starts. If you have a good group, chain-run fast +10 keys and keep the pace high. You do not need to push the highest key possible. You need smooth runs, quick clears, and reliable completions.
The best key is not always the biggest key. The best key is the one your group can finish fast without wipes, resets, or people leaving after one bad pull. If your goal is pure speed, farm the easiest +10 keys available. Take players who know routes, bring enough interrupts, and avoid overcomplicated runs. A boring clean +10 is better than a painful +13 that eats your evening.
Heroic raid bosses also give guaranteed Ascendant Voidshards. A full Heroic clear can give a large chunk of progress, especially if your raid group is organized and already knows the fights. This is a great option for guilds and premade groups. If your team can blast through the raid, it is one of the best shard-per-session farms in the game. For pugs, it depends. A fast pug can be great. A messy pug can be painful. If you are spending more time replacing people than killing bosses, Mythic+ will usually be better.
Heroic raid is best when the group is stable, geared, and focused. If the group is weak, do not force it just because the rewards are guaranteed.
Mythic raid bosses also drop Ascendant Voidshards, but this is not the casual farming route. Mythic raid is harder, slower to organize, and far less forgiving. For progression players, Mythic raid shards will come naturally while killing bosses. For everyone else, do not treat Mythic raid as your main farm unless you already have access to a strong team.
Ascendant Voidshards are meant to help your gear get stronger. If you need that power before pushing Mythic bosses, farm easier, guaranteed sources first.
Ritual Sites can still drop Ascendant Voidshards, but they are no longer the main farm. Tier 5 Ritual Sites have the best chance among Ritual Sites, while Tier 1 to Tier 4 were reduced after the hotfix. That means low-tier Ritual Site spam is no longer the smart route. It may feel easy, but easy does not always mean efficient. Use Ritual Sites when your better sources are done, your group is offline, or you want something to farm solo without committing to keys or raids. They are backup content now, not the main plan.
If you want the fastest practical route, follow this order:
Also, plan around your character – a geared character with a strong group should live in +10 keys. A solo player should focus on Nightmare Prey, Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, and then Tier 5 Ritual Sites. A raider should treat Heroic bosses as free progress during weekly clears.
Ascendant Voidshards are not complicated, but they can waste your time if you farm the wrong content. The main rule is simple: go where the guaranteed drops are.
Start with Nightmare Prey and Tier 11 Bountiful Delves, then move into Heroic raid or Mythic+10 farming. If you can run fast +10 keys with a steady group, that is the best repeatable way to grind Ascendant Voidshards.
Use your Ascendant Voidcores wisely, upgrade the gear that matters, and do not burn time on weak farms unless you have nothing better left to do. In WoW Midnight, smart farming beats blind grinding every time.
