Blizzard announced another round of WoW Forever racial changes on October 26, 2026, just before the November 4 launch. Humans lose half of their new Critical Strike bonus, Dwarves gain Hit Chance, Orcs get Command back, Tauren run faster on foot, and both Skyborne factions receive revised racial effects. The timing matters: eligible players begin early name reservation on October 27, so many are deciding on a first character now.
These are officially announced pre-launch changes, not independent testing of the November 4 live client. The full list comes from Blizzard community manager Kaivax’s October 26 development notes. Here’s what changed and what players should reconsider before locking in a race.
WoW Forever October 26 Racial Changes at a Glance
| Race | Before | Announced October 26 Change |
|---|---|---|
| Human | Ruthless: +2% Crit; The Human Spirit: +5% Spirit | Ruthless: +1% Crit; Human Spirit: +10% Spirit |
| Dwarf | Earth Fury: +2% Critical Strike damage and healing | Earth Fury removed; new Artisan’s Precision: +1% Hit Chance with attacks and spells |
| Tauren | Plainsrunning: 1% movement speed per stack, up to 30%; Endurance had additional combat modifiers | Plainsrunning: 2% per stack, up to 60%, no mounted-speed bonus; Endurance provides only +5% Health |
| Orc | Savage: +1% Critical Strike Chance | Savage removed; Command returns, increasing Hunter and Warlock pet damage by 5% |
| Skyborne (both factions) | Wind Blessed: +3% Haste | Wind Blessed reduced to +2% Haste; Read Leyline and Skysight gain revised base effects and one-hour location-specific buffs |
This is not a full rework of every racial trait. Blizzard’s October 26 list names five racial groups; unlisted races are not assigned new changes by this announcement. It also does not restore the old Human Sword Specialization or Orc Axe Specialization weapon-skill racials.
Does This Change the Race You Should Reserve?
It can change the tradeoff, but it does not establish a new best race for every class. Dwarf is more interesting for a player who values Hit Chance. Orc’s new Command directly favors pet-focused Hunters and Warlocks, not every Orc class. Human trades some passive Crit for more Spirit, while Tauren gets a much faster ground-travel tool that does not boost mount speed. Skyborne players now have less passive Haste but more situational value around special world locations.
If you have not chosen your character, check the class and faction you actually want first. A 1% passive difference should not override the ability to play with your guild or use the class you enjoy. The WoW Forever Skyborne Race Guide covers the permanent race unlock and faction-specific abilities; our WoW Forever Class Tier List compares broader class roles rather than treating these patch notes as a finished damage ranking.
Choose Your Main, Then Plan the Leveling Journey
The October 26 changes affect racial tradeoffs, but they do not unlock classes or level your character. Choose the faction and class first, then compare a self-play route with separate post-launch help.
Why Blizzard Is Changing Racial Identity Again
In the announcement, Blizzard explains that players criticized the earlier racial pass from two directions: some traits felt generic, while others appeared too powerful. The team’s stated priority is to make a race feel distinct, even when that makes it slightly better suited to particular roles. That’s why Command returns as a pet-specific bonus while generic Orc Crit disappears.
There is one clear exception. Blizzard says weapon-specific race advantages such as Sword Specialization and Axe Specialization will not return. The developers do not want future dungeon and raid weapon drops judged against a race’s effectively required weapon type. So this is not a return to the old Classic weapon-skill meta.
The Most Important Class-Specific Implications
Dwarf Hit Versus Human Crit
Dwarves exchange a Critical Strike damage and healing modifier for an always-on 1% Hit Chance bonus on attacks and spells. That may affect gearing choices at Level 60, but the value depends on the character’s role and actual encounter requirements. The notes do not prove that Dwarf beats Human for every DPS, healer or tank. Human’s Spirit increase is especially relevant to classes that benefit from that stat, while its 1% Crit remains a general bonus.
Orc Command Is Back, but It Has a Narrower Audience
Orc Hunters and Warlocks using pets gain a clear reason to compare Command with other racial packages. The new 5% bonus applies to their pets’ damage, not directly to the player’s entire damage output. Orc Mages, Shamans and Warriors should not treat it like their old universal Savage passive, and a Hunter choosing a no-pet playstyle cannot assume equal value.
Tauren Trades Combat Modifiers for Ground Mobility
Plainsrunning’s maximum stacking speed bonus doubles from 30% to 60%, while the former mounted-speed benefit is removed. The wording says per stack: it is not a permanent instant 60% movement bonus. Endurance now provides only 5% increased Health. That makes the change meaningful for outdoor travel and character feel, but does not automatically make Tauren the fastest character in every situation.
Skyborne: Attuned and Charged Are the Biggest Mechanical Changes
Both Alliance High Order and Horde Windshaper Skyborne now receive 2% Haste from Wind Blessed, down from 3% in the October 15 version. Their faction-specific actives also get a different balance between the normal ability and a buff earned at a special location.
| Skyborne Ability | Normal Effect | Special Location Bonus |
|---|---|---|
| Read Leyline (Alliance) | +50% Health and Mana regeneration for 15 seconds, reduced from 100%. Cannot be used while Innervate is active; Innervate supersedes the weaker effect. | Use it at a Ley Line to gain Attuned for 1 hour. While Attuned, Read Leyline improves regeneration by 100% instead. Attuned survives death. |
| Skysight (Horde) | +15% movement speed for 15 seconds, up from 10%. | Use it at an Elemental Convergence to gain Charged for 1 hour. While Charged, Skysight grants +30% movement speed instead. Charged survives death. |
The one-hour effects are conditional: finding a Ley Line or Elemental Convergence matters. Blizzard has not published a final Level 60 comparison proving which faction’s Skyborne active is better. Our updated Skyborne guide keeps the ability details together with the class, faction and unlock restrictions.
What Happens Next Before WoW Forever Launch?
Eligible Early Name Reservation is scheduled for October 27 through November 3. That lets qualified players reserve names, but does not open leveling or turn the beta back on. WoW Forever is scheduled to launch on November 4, 2026, with Level 60 progression. If you are reserving a character, decide the ruleset, faction and playable race/class combination before focusing on a small passive bonus.
Blizzard calls the October 26 changes a final pass ahead of launch, but an announcement is not proof that a particular tooltip has already appeared in a live client. Recheck the launch version if another update lands. We are keeping the Skyborne racial guide aligned with these notes; other class-specific recommendations should use the October 26 numbers rather than older 2% Human Crit, Earth Fury, Savage or 3% Skyborne Haste.
WoW Forever Racial Changes FAQ
Which races changed on October 26?
Blizzard listed Human, Dwarf, Tauren, Orc and Skyborne. Both Skyborne factions are affected by the Wind Blessed change, while their faction-specific active abilities receive different adjustments.
Is Orc Command the same as Savage?
No. Savage was a general 1% Critical Strike Chance passive. Command replaces it with 5% extra pet damage for Hunters and Warlocks, so the benefit depends on class and whether you use a pet.
Can a Skyborne keep Attuned or Charged after dying?
Yes. Blizzard explicitly says both one-hour buffs persist through death. They require using the correct ability at the matching special location to gain the buff.
