WoW Forever Skyborne Race Guide

WoW Forever Skyborne Race Guide – Horde Windshaper and Alliance High Order Skyborne, Classes, Racial Abilities and Unlock Requirements.

Skyborne are the new playable elven race in WoW Forever. You can create a High Order Skyborne for Alliance or a Windshaper Skyborne for Horde, with different class options and one faction-specific racial ability. Both begin on Zephras Isle, a new level 1-12 area. To create one at launch, you need the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher World of Warcraft: Forever upgrade. A regular subscription covers the base game, not this optional race unlock.

The most important decision comes before cosmetics or racial percentages: choose the faction your friends play, then confirm that faction allows your class. Skyborne can be Druids, Hunters, Rogues or Warriors on either side. Alliance adds Mage; Horde adds Shaman. The race is not available to Paladins, Priests or Warlocks.

As of the October 15, 2026 beta update, Wind Blessed grants 3% Haste rather than the original 1%, and several active racials have changed. Older September tables still circulate, so the comparison below uses the newer tuning where Blizzard has published it.

Skyborne look and sound different from the older races, but they still play by the same core class, group and faction rules. They do not bring a tenth class, and their special Druid appearances do not create a new combat specialization.

How to Unlock Skyborne in WoW Forever

You unlock Skyborne through a Blizzard account upgrade, not a quest, reputation grind or LepreStore boost. The cheapest advertised US option is the Skyborne Heroic Pack at $29.99. It grants the race and Zephras Isle starting experience along with early name reservation, cosmetics, a Cerulean Prideclaw mount and an Invite-A-Friend code. The mount still requires the appropriate riding skill in-game.

OptionSkyborne Unlock?What Changes for You
WoW subscription or Game Time onlyNoPlay the standard WoW Forever races and classes after launch
Skyborne Heroic Pack (advertised US $29.99)YesRace, Zephras Isle, early name reservation and the Heroic benefits; no guaranteed beta access
Skyborne Epic Pack (advertised US $59.99)YesHeroic benefits plus beta access, 30 days of Game Time starting at launch and extra collectibles
Warcraft Forever Collection (advertised US $79.99)YesEpic benefits plus Warcraft III: Reforged and Forsaken Kingdom content

Check your own region and currency before checkout. Blizzard sells the upgrade in the official Forever edition announcement, which also explains the difference between Heroic and Epic. A Heroic purchase alone does not promise access to the September-October beta. The free October 19 Stress Test is a separate, temporary event; its characters and names are wiped.

Buying the upgrade also does not automatically create a leveled character. You still choose a realm ruleset, region, faction and class, then begin the normal leveling journey. If you only want to play a regular race, the paid Skyborne edition is optional rather than a required entrance fee for Forever.

Skyborne Classes: Alliance vs Horde

The Skyborne faction choice is not a cosmetic badge. It changes class eligibility and which active racial you receive. Make that choice with your regular group in mind: an Alliance Skyborne cannot join a Horde friend’s party just because both characters share an origin story.

ClassHigh Order (Alliance)Windshaper (Horde)Main Roles
WarriorYesYesTank or melee DPS
HunterYesYesRanged DPS, strong solo leveling
RogueYesYesMelee DPS, stealth and control
DruidYesYesBear tank, Cat melee, ranged DPS or healing
MageYesNoRanged spell DPS
ShamanNoYesRanged DPS, melee DPS or healing
Paladin, Priest, WarlockNoNoChoose a different race

Two common mistakes: wanting an Alliance Skyborne Shaman, or assuming an attractive Skyborne appearance allows Paladin. Neither works. Alliance players who specifically want Shaman can investigate Dwarf Shaman, a new combination elsewhere in Forever; it does not change the High Order class list.

Skyborne Druid is the most flexible choice by group role, but flexibility has a cost: it uses different gear and builds to tank, heal or deal damage. A Hunter remains an approachable choice for solo questing, while Rogue and Warrior have a more demanding early game in different ways. Those are gameplay tradeoffs, not a universal Skyborne class ranking.

Skyborne Racial Abilities After the October 15 Beta Update

Each Skyborne tradition currently has two active abilities and two passive traits. Three traits are shared; the fourth is a different faction-specific active. Blizzard changed several numbers on October 15, so this table distinguishes updated facts from values that still need a live-tooltip check.

RacialWho Gets ItWhat It DoesWhen It Helps
Walk on AirBothControlled downward glide for 10 seconds. Cooldown now 90 seconds.Descending cliffs, navigating outdoor terrain, avoiding some fall damage
SkysightHorde onlyElemental Blessing grants 10% movement speed. Can now be cast while moving; stronger duration near an Elemental Convergence.Travel between quest objectives and repeated movement
Read LeylineAlliance onlyImproves Health and Mana regeneration when used; a found ley line greatly extends the benefit. Can now be cast while moving; minimum effect duration increased to 30 seconds.Reducing recovery downtime between fights
Wind Blessed (passive)Both3% melee, ranged and spellcasting Haste, increased from 1% on October 15.Consistent combat tempo across many classes
Elemental Insight (passive)Both5% more damage against Elemental enemies.Specific elemental encounters, not every outdoor mob or dungeon boss

Do not copy the old 1% Haste number into a launch build. Blizzard explicitly raised Wind Blessed to 3%, reduced the Walk on Air cooldown, and made both faction actives usable while moving. The October notes also added Elemental Convergence and ley-line locations in many older zones. Those changes make the racials easier to use while leveling, but there is no evidence they guarantee the best race for every class.

Read Leyline tuning caveat: Blizzard’s original racial overview describes a 100% regeneration increase, while a later third-party beta guide lists a different percentage. The October 15 Blizzard notes confirm the movement and duration changes but do not restate the regeneration multiplier. Check the current in-game tooltip before planning exact downtime or claiming that High Order is mathematically superior to Windshaper.

High Order or Windshaper: Which Racial Is More Useful?

Choose High Order if Alliance is your home and extra recovery between pulls appeals to you, particularly on Mana-using classes. Choose Windshaper if your group plays Horde and you value movement convenience. Do not switch faction purely because one tooltip sounds stronger. Friends, guilds, class access and dungeon groups will shape your character much more often than the occasional faction-specific buff.

Walk on Air is a glide, not permanent flight or a flying mount. Skysight helps movement, but it is not a replacement for learning riding. Elemental Insight is matchup-specific. Wind Blessed is always available, yet whether 3% Haste beats another race’s defensive or control racial depends on your class, equipment and the encounter.

Which Skyborne Class Should You Pick?

The best Skyborne class is the one that gives you a role you want to play for dozens of hours. If you want one character to cover several group jobs, choose Druid. If you mostly quest alone, Hunter is an easy starting point. The class-specific links below go deeper into builds and current Level 30 talents without turning this race guide into nine competing class guides.

Your GoalGood Skyborne OptionWhy

One main with multiple PvE rolesDruid, either factionCat, Bear, Balance and Restoration choices; unique Skyborne form art

Dedicated ranged spell DPSMage, AllianceHigh Order grants an extra recovery option; choose Arcane, Fire or Frost talents separately
Totems, Shocks and healing flexibilityShaman, HordeWindshaper adds travel utility to Elemental, Enhancement or Restoration

A Skyborne racial does not fix a class you dislike. If you are only interested in Priest or Paladin, choose an eligible race and keep the normal subscription; the race upgrade will not open a class that the creation screen does not support.

Skyborne Starting Zone: Zephras Isle (Levels 1-12)

All Skyborne begin on Zephras Isle, a floating homeland shaped by wind spirits and elemental architecture. Its main opening story takes players through approximately levels 1-12. You can leave earlier, but rushing out may mean missing the new race-specific quests that introduce why the island is failing and why its people are split.

  1. Complete the close-together starter quests first. Use the local chain to learn your class and explore the island instead of rushing to a mainland zone with no clear travel plan.
  2. Train skills and review your racial buttons. Walk on Air is most useful when you can control a descent; the faction racial works differently for a ley line and an Elemental Convergence.
  3. After the starter story, join your faction’s normal leveling route. Alliance and Horde characters head into different zones, flight networks and groups. The WoW Forever Leveling Guide 1-60 covers the later quest and dungeon choices.
  4. Keep class quests on your radar. A Skyborne Druid still needs the applicable form unlocks; a Skyborne Shaman or Mage still follows its own class progression. Your race does not skip those steps.

There is no verified universal fastest minute-by-minute Skyborne route for the full 1-60 journey. The new island has its own start, but after level 12 your faction and route decisions matter more than the race label. A short island run is also not a substitute for discovering whether you enjoy the class’s combat style.

Skyborne Druid Forms, Appearance and Mounts

Skyborne Druids receive race-specific forms with distinctive birdlike and wind-themed visual elements. That does not give them extra Bear or Cat combat abilities. In the current beta, the forms are part of the same normal Druid progression: Bear at level 10, Cat at 20, Travel at 30 and later forms beyond the beta cap. For the complete unlock requirements and cosmetic alternatives, use our WoW Forever Druid Forms Guide.

Blizzard has acknowledged feedback that the Skyborne HD models and forms look different from older Classic-era art. Revised HD Druid visuals are being developed, while standard-definition Skyborne character models and SD Druid forms are planned for early 2027, not the November 4 launch. If classic-style character art is essential to you, this is a real limitation to weigh before buying the upgrade.

Skyborne also have a racial mount family, the Galestriders, with versions associated with later riding tiers. Separately, the Heroic Pack lists a Cerulean Prideclaw ground mount among its extras. A pack-granted mount is not a free riding-skill unlock. For mount requirements and distinctions, see our WoW Forever Mounts Guide.

Customization includes feather accents, ear length, hair, tattoos and other features, plus race-specific emotes and voices. Choose the appearance you actually enjoy seeing during leveling; do not assume that every visual preview is final while Blizzard continues revising Skyborne models.

Who Are the Skyborne?

The Skyborne, known as the shen’dorei, trace their ancestry to Highborne exiles from Eldre’Thalas. They survived by striking a pact with the wind spirits of Skywall, who helped establish their home on Zephras Isle. When those spirits vanished, the island began to fail and its people disagreed about what should come next.

The Windshapers want to restore the elemental relationship that sustained their society. The High Order seek renewed arcane knowledge and more independence from the elementals. That difference explains the Horde-Shaman and Alliance-Mage split without making them two unrelated races. Blizzard’s Skyborne introduction provides the official starting story.

Before You Create a Skyborne: Quick Decision Checklist

  1. Confirm that Skyborne is worth the optional upgrade for you. If your intended class exists on a standard race you prefer, the base subscription may be enough.
  2. Pick the correct faction for your class and group. High Order can be Mage; Windshaper can be Shaman. Both can be Druid, Hunter, Rogue or Warrior.
  3. Choose the right Blizzard edition. Heroic unlocks the race, while Epic adds beta access and Game Time. A third-party leveling service does not unlock the race.
  4. Check your ruleset, region and friends. A race shared by two factions does not bypass faction or ruleset restrictions.
  5. Plan the first 12 levels on Zephras Isle. Decide when to move into the wider Alliance or Horde quest route, and keep class quests in view.
  6. Decide whether HD Skyborne art suits you. Standard-definition Skyborne models and Druid forms are scheduled for early 2027.

WoW Forever launches on November 4, 2026. The current beta cap is Level 30, so claims about final Level 60 class balance and raid performance still need launch data. Pick a durable class identity first; you can optimize individual talent builds later.

WoW Forever Skyborne FAQ

Can you play Skyborne without buying the Heroic Pack?

Not as a normal launch character with just the standard subscription. The race and Zephras Isle starting experience are tied to the Skyborne Heroic Pack or a higher upgrade. Temporary beta or Stress Test access does not replace the launch unlock.

Can Alliance Skyborne be Shamans?

No. Alliance High Order Skyborne can choose Mage but not Shaman. Horde Windshaper Skyborne can choose Shaman but not Mage. Dwarf Shaman exists as a different Alliance race-and-class combination.

Can Skyborne be Paladin, Priest or Warlock?

No. The six playable class names across both Skyborne factions are Warrior, Hunter, Rogue, Druid, Mage and Shaman, but an individual faction variant has only five of those six available.

Is the Skyborne Heroic Pack the same as a WoW Forever leveling boost?

No. Blizzard’s Heroic Pack unlocks the race and its listed account benefits. LepreStore leveling and starter bundles are separate services for character progression after launch; they do not supply a Battle.net race unlock.

What changed for Skyborne racials in the October 15 beta update?

Wind Blessed increased from 1% to 3% Haste, Walk on Air dropped to a 90-second cooldown, and Skysight and Read Leyline became castable while moving. Read Leyline also received a longer minimum duration, and more ley lines and Elemental Convergences were placed in older zones.

Do Skyborne Druids have a special form or a different class role?

They have unique form appearances, not a new specialization or extra class role. The normal Bear, Cat, Travel and later Druid progression still applies. Standard-definition Skyborne forms are not scheduled until early 2027.

Does the Heroic Pack give beta access or reserve my name automatically?

Heroic includes eligibility for the October 27-November 3 early name reservation window but does not guarantee the September-October beta access included with Epic and Collection. Names are first-come, first-served; you still need to reserve one yourself.
