Assassination Rogue is a melee DPS spec built around poisons, critical strikes, Combo Points, and fast finishing moves. WoW Forever gives the tree a much clearer identity with Mutilate, Venom, stronger poison talents, and persistent Combo Points when switching targets. The current beta supports a strong early leveling setup, while complete PvE and PvP builds remain level-60 theorycraft.

Quick choices for starting an Assassination Rogue in the current WoW Forever beta.
Best Assassination Rogue Talent Builds in WoW Forever
Assassination changes considerably between the current level-20 beta and its planned level-60 gameplay. Early Rogue damage still revolves around Ambush, Backstab, Sinister Strike, and Eviscerate. The deeper tree adds the poison-focused mechanics that make Assassination a distinct specialization, including Venom, Seal Fate, and Mutilate.
Assassination Rogue Leveling Build
Build status: Recommended Starter Build. At the current level-20 beta cap, use an 11/0/0 setup with 2/2 Remorseless Attacks, 5/5 Malice, 3/3 Ruthlessness, and 1/1 Relentless Strikes.
Remorseless Attacks is especially useful while leveling because killing an enemy increases the Critical Strike chance of your next eligible attack. That rewards moving quickly from one target to the next. Malice adds reliable Crit, Ruthlessness can return a Combo Point after a finishing move, and Relentless Strikes can return Energy when you spend Combo Points.
Improved Slice and Dice is less important at this stage because normal enemies often die before a long Slice and Dice duration pays for the talent investment. The starter route instead focuses on immediate damage and faster Combo Point cycling.
Choose any WoW Forever leveling range up to 60 and skip part of the questing and travel grind.

11 / 0 / 0 Key talents: Malice 5/5, Ruthlessness 3/3, Remorseless Attacks 2/2, Relentless Strikes 1/1Assassination Rogue PvE Build
Build status: Community Build, Level 60 theorycraft. The 36/13/2 setup builds around Mutilate, Venom, Seal Fate, and heavy poison investment while using Combat for Hit and dagger support.
Assassination takes Malice, Ruthlessness, Murder, Relentless Strikes, Lethality, Vile Poisons, Cold Blood, Improved Poisons, Vigor, Venom, Seal Fate, and Mutilate. Combat adds Improved Eviscerate, Puncturing Wounds, Precision, and defensive filler, while two points in Subtlety go into Opportunity.
Mutilate attacks with both weapons, generates two Combo Points, and deals additional damage against poisoned targets. Seal Fate can generate another Combo Point from critical strikes, which helps Assassination reach its finishers quickly. The current theorycraft then maintains Venom and Slice and Dice while spending spare points on Eviscerate.
This is a strong current direction for dungeon and raid testing, but poison resistance, encounter movement, dagger availability, and real level-60 logs can still change the final build.

Rogue Assassination talent build — Assassination 36, Combat 13, Subtlety 2.
36 / 13 / 2 Key talents: Venom, Mutilate, Cold Blood, Seal Fate 5/5, Vile Poisons 5/5, Improved Poisons 5/5Assassination Rogue PvP Build
Build status: Community Build, PvP-oriented Level 60 theorycraft. The 34/17/0 setup combines Assassination burst with Combat utility.
The Assassination tree takes Cold Blood, Vile Poisons, Improved Kidney Shot, Seal Fate, and Mutilate. Combat adds Improved Sprint, Improved Kick, Endurance, Riposte, and Precision.
The main idea is to create a short kill window. Cheap Shot and Kidney Shot control the target, Improved Kidney Shot increases the damage taken during the stun, and Cold Blood can force a critical Mutilate or Eviscerate. Vile Poisons also makes poison removal less reliable, which matters against classes that can cleanse.

Current Assassination theorycraft is already splitting between pure poison damage, PvP burst, and leveling builds that delay the deepest Assassination talents for Combat utility. These are useful testing directions, not confirmed level-60 rankings.
| Build | Split | Main Difference |
|---|---|---|
| Poison PvE | 36/13/2 | Deep Assassination with Venom, Seal Fate, Mutilate, Improved Poisons, and Combat Hit support. |
| Cold Blood PvP | 34/17/0 | Trades some poison efficiency for Improved Kidney Shot, Improved Sprint, and Improved Kick. |
| Leveling Hybrid | Deep Assassination + Combat | Unlocks Mutilate and Seal Fate first, then uses Combat points for Hit, weapon support, and smoother solo play. |
Best Race for Assassination Rogue in WoW Forever
Gnome currently stands out for Alliance Assassination Rogues, while Orc is the strongest straightforward Horde choice. Both have tools that help Rogue maintain uptime on a target instead of losing an entire Energy cycle to crowd control or movement.
| Goal | Alliance Picks | Horde Picks | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| PvE | Gnome, Night Elf | Orc, Undead | Gnome adds burst through Eureka!, while Orc has Blood Fury for direct Attack Power. Other choices remain usable depending on their utility. |
| PvP | Gnome | Orc, Undead | Escape Artist helps against roots and slows, Hardiness reduces Stun pressure, and Undead brings strong anti-control utility. |
| Leveling | Gnome | Orc | Both help shorten fights or reduce the time Rogue spends unable to attack. |
Gnome is especially comfortable before Vanish becomes available because Escape Artist gives you another way to remove movement problems. Orc combines Blood Fury with Hardiness and Shatter Curse, giving it useful tools in both PvE and PvP.
Best Professions for Assassination Rogue in WoW Forever
| Goal | Professions | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Leveling / Self-Supply | Leatherworking + Skinning | Skinning supplies materials naturally while leveling, and Leatherworking can provide Rogue gear and new Forever recipes. |
| PvP | Engineering + Mining | Grenades, mobility tools, and gadgets give Rogue more control during short kill windows. |
| Endgame PvE | Engineering + Alchemy | Combines Engineering utility with access to useful consumables if you can support both professions without gathering. |
First Aid is also particularly useful on Rogue. Assassination has no normal self-heal, so bandages can reduce leveling downtime and can sometimes be used after Gouge, Blind, or another control window.
Assassination Rogue Stat Priority in WoW Forever
For the current level-20 beta, use Weapon Damage > Hit Chance > Agility > Critical Strike > Strength > Stamina as the practical starting priority.
Weapon damage matters because Rogue abilities and auto-attacks scale directly from your weapons. Hit is especially important while leveling because missed attacks produce no damage and can interrupt the pace of Combo Point generation.
Agility adds Attack Power and Critical Strike value, while Crit becomes increasingly important once deeper Assassination builds reach Seal Fate. A fixed level-60 Hit cap should wait for actual Forever raid testing rather than copying a Classic number into the guide.
What Gear Should Assassination Rogue Use in WoW Forever?
At low level, prioritize strong one-handed weapons and keep your weapon skills current. If you use Ambush and Backstab heavily, daggers already have clear value.
Once the full Assassination tree comes online, dual daggers become the expected setup. Mutilate attacks with both weapons, so the quality of both daggers matters. Current theorycraft favors a harder-hitting main-hand dagger and a faster off-hand that can contribute frequent poison applications.
Do not copy a Classic Rogue Pre-BiS list directly into Forever. New dungeon loot, changed talents, poison scaling, and reworked itemization can change which weapon or leather piece is actually best.
Assassination Rogue Rotation and Ability Priority
The current level-20 rotation is much simpler than the planned level-60 poison rotation. Start from Stealth, generate Combo Points efficiently, avoid capping Energy, and spend Combo Points based on how long the target will survive.
How Assassination Rogue Combat Works
Use this as the current beta starter loop. The full poison build becomes much more complete once Venom, Seal Fate, and Mutilate come online later.
At level 60, the loop changes around Mutilate and Venom. Mutilate builds Combo Points quickly, Seal Fate can add more points when attacks crit, and Venom becomes a maintenance finisher for your poison window. Slice and Dice still matters on targets that survive long enough for extra auto-attacks to pay off.
How Venom Changes Assassination Rogue Poison Gameplay
Venom is the talent that turns poisons from passive extra damage into an active part of the Assassination rotation. The finisher increases poison damage by 30% and poison application chance by 10%. Its duration scales with Combo Points, reaching 21 seconds at five points.
Mutilate supports that loop directly. It attacks with both weapons, generates two Combo Points, and deals 20% more damage against poisoned targets. That gives Assassination a natural cycle: apply poisons, use Mutilate to build points, spend those points on Venom, then use the stronger poison window to increase sustained damage.
Seal Fate accelerates the same system. Critical strikes from Combo Point-generating abilities can award an additional point, so Crit is no longer only extra damage. It can also shorten the time required to reach your next Venom or other finisher.
This is the main reason Assassination looks much more like a complete specialization in Forever. Classic Assassination had useful poison and crit talents, but Forever gives those mechanics a shared gameplay loop instead of leaving them as mostly passive bonuses.
Best Legacy Talents for Assassination Rogue
For leveling, Well Rested and Talented remain useful general picks because they improve rested experience and move talent access earlier without increasing the final talent-point limit.
Thrill of Adventure is useful for solo Rogue leveling because health recovery is one of the class’s natural weak points. Bountiful Harvest fits Skinning or Mining, while For Great Honor is useful for a Rogue that will spend significant time in battlegrounds.
Legacy tuning can still change before launch, so these should be treated as practical early choices rather than a permanent best-in-slot Legacy setup.
What Changed for Assassination Rogue in WoW Forever?
Forever gives Assassination a much clearer poison identity. Mutilate becomes the deep-tree Combo Point builder, Venom adds an active poison finisher, Vigor moves earlier in the tree, and several poison talents become more important because the spec now has a full damage loop built around them.
Rogue also receives a useful class-wide quality-of-life change: Combo Points no longer disappear simply because you switch targets. They remain attached to the original target until you begin building Combo Points on another enemy. That makes target swapping less punishing in dungeons and PvP.
The trees have also been rearranged. Improved Gouge moves into Assassination, while Improved Eviscerate moves to Combat. These changes help separate the three Rogue identities more clearly than in the original Classic trees.
Key New and Reworked Assassination Rogue Talents
| Talent | What It Changes | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Mutilate | Attacks with both weapons, gains extra damage against poisoned targets, and awards two Combo Points. | It becomes the central Combo Point generator for the full Assassination build. |
| Venom | Increases poison damage by 30% and poison application chance by 10% for up to 21 seconds. | Poison uptime becomes something you actively maintain through finishing moves. |
| Seal Fate | Critical strikes from Combo Point-generating abilities can award an additional Combo Point. | Crit improves both damage and the speed at which Assassination reaches its finishers. |
| Vile Poisons | Increases poison damage and gives poisons additional resistance to dispel effects. | It strengthens Assassination in both sustained PvE and PvP against classes that can remove poisons. |
These talents are present in current Forever data. The final poison priority, dagger speeds, raid Hit requirements, and exact Venom uptime still need level-60 testing.
