Library books in WoW Forever are collectible items hidden across Azeroth. Hand them in to your faction librarian to work toward three reward choices: a necklace after 10, a ring after 20 and a bow, shield or off-hand after 25 book turn-ins. Alliance players visit Garion Wendell in Stormwind; Horde players visit Owen Thadd in Undercity. You can begin collecting while leveling rather than making one costly trip at 60.
Important distinction: current game-data trackers list 40 library-book items, but only 38 have identified hand-in quests. Two entries lack verified Forever turn-ins. Several books also have more than one reported world location, which does not make them different books. This guide separates those cases so you can chase the rewards without padding your count with duplicate or unconfirmed pins.
WoW Forever Library Book Rewards at a Glance
| Unique books handed in | Reward quest / character level | Choose one reward |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | Friend of the Library; reported from level 1 | Scholarly Pendant or Erudite's Amulet (neck) |
| 20 | Greater Friend of the Library; from level 20 | Field Researcher's Loop or Philanthropist's Ring (ring) |
| 25 | Greater Friend of the Library (25-book tier); beta reports say from level 30 | Truthseeker's Bow, Crest of Elucidation or Researcher's Night Light (level 40 to equip) |
The 25-book reward was added during the October beta. Some third-party databases disagree on the quest availability level; Wowhead’s October report and the current Method guide both put the unlock at level 30. The three reward items themselves are listed as requiring level 40 to equip after subsequent tuning. If a reward quest is missing despite enough completed turn-ins, check your level and the current client quest details before collecting more books.
Which Library Book Route Should You Follow?
| Your goal | A practical plan | When to change course |
|---|---|---|
| First necklace (10 books) | Collect starter-zone books while questing, then make one grouped trip to the other continent. Use the Alliance/Horde lists below. | Do not enter a high-level crypt just for one early book. |
| Ring (20 books) | Finish accessible level-20-set books; add level-35-set zones along your leveling path. | The ring is level-gated to equip, even if the quest unlocks earlier. |
| Bow / shield / off-hand (25 books) | Work toward 25 verified turn-ins across mid-level zones. Leave Plaguelands and Blackrock until you can travel there safely. | Do not count two reported locations of one title twice or rely on books without a hand-in quest. |
Travel between continents and dangerous quest camps often costs more time than the pickup itself. If you are collecting alongside leveling, plan book detours around the zones you already need. If high-level zones are the obstacle, solve character level and access first, not a longer list of map pins.
Prepare for the Books You Still Need
The first ten books fit naturally into early questing. Later collections may take you into contested or level-40-plus zones. Choose whether to level for those routes, plan your own path or install a map tool. None of these options sells or guarantees specific library book turn-ins.
Where to Turn In Library Books: Alliance and Horde
Each verified book has a separate librarian hand-in. You do not need to carry 10 or 20 physical books at once. The milestones refer to the number of different books turned in, not the number of copies in your bags.
| Faction | Librarian | Forever map waypoint |
|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Garion Wendell — Stormwind Mage Tower / Mage Quarter | /way Stormwind City 49.0 86.4 |
| Horde | Owen Thadd — Undercity Magic Quarter | /way Undercity 74.0 32.4 |
Do not mix coordinate systems: older Classic data sometimes gives Garion Wendell near 37.5, 80.8, while Forever maps show about 49.0, 86.4. The same warning applies to Eastern Plaguelands and locations inside Blackrock Mountain or Wailing Caverns. Check which map your addon is currently displaying.
- Loot a named book from a shelf, scroll pile, table or other object in the world; most are not mob drops.
- Bring it to your faction librarian and finish that book’s individual hand-in quest. Record its title as completed.
- At the 10, 20 and 25 milestones, check for the additional reward quest and choose the item that fits your class or next upgrade.
Which Library Reward Is Worth Choosing?
At 10 Books: Pick a Necklace
Scholarly Pendant gives +3 Stamina and +2 Spirit, a general comfort pick while leveling or recovering Mana. Erudite's Amulet gives +3 Stamina and +2 Agility, which is easier to justify on an Agility-focused physical character. This choice is about the stats your current character can actually use, not a universal best-in-slot claim.
At 20 Books: Pick a Ring
Field Researcher's Loop offers +7 Agility and +7 Stamina, while Philanthropist's Ring gives +5 Intellect and up to +10 spell damage and healing. A melee or Hunter character may favor the first; a spellcaster can compare the second with available dungeon and crafted options. These items have been listed with a level-40 equip requirement, even though the 20-book milestone itself opens earlier.
At 25 Books: Pick a Weapon, Shield or Off-Hand
The last milestone offers Truthseeker's Bow (Agility-focused ranged weapon), Crest of Elucidation (shield with Spirit and healing-related bonuses), or Researcher's Night Light (off-hand with Stamina and Fire spell damage). They are not automatically upgrades for every specialization. Check that your character can equip the item before choosing it, and do not treat the bow as usable at level 30 after the October change.
For a broader comparison against dungeon and quest equipment, use our WoW Forever gear guide. It owns general gearing decisions; this page owns the collection route.
Alliance: A Practical First 10 Library Books
This is a milestone route, not a claim of the fastest measured speedrun. The efficient order depends on where your character is questing and which flight paths you already have. Group stops on the same continent and skip a dangerous camp until you have the level or help to clear it.
- Elwynn Forest: Archmage Theocritus’ Research Journal at the Tower of Azora.
- Westfall: Bewitchments and Glamours in Moonbrook, then Rumi of Gnomeregan in Sentinel Hill inn.
- Ironforge: Archmage Antonidas in the Hall of Explorers.
- Wetlands: Goaz Scrolls in Whelgar’s Excavation Site.
- Darkshore: Nar’thalas Almanac at the Ruins of Mathystra.
- Stonetalon Mountains: Fury of the Land at Grimtotem Post.
- The Barrens: Baxtan: On Destructive Magics at Ratchet, Arcanic Systems Manual at Sludge Fen, and Secrets of the Dreamers in the Wailing Caverns cave before the instance portal.
That is ten different titles. If one stop is crowded or too dangerous, replace it with an accessible book from the full checklist rather than assuming you need an identical route. The three Barrens books are best grouped with travel you already planned in that area.
Horde: A Practical First 10 Library Books
Horde players can begin with three northern Eastern Kingdoms books plus Orgrimmar, then use the Barrens and Stonetalon. The last two on this example route are better treated as early-to-mid-level additions rather than a level-10 speedrun target.
- Tirisfal Glades: The Apothecary’s Metaphysical Primer in Brill.
- Silverpine Forest: Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities at the Sepulcher and The Dalaran Digest at Ambermill.
- Orgrimmar: The Lessons of Ta’zo in the Valley of Spirits.
- The Barrens: Baxtan at Ratchet, Arcanic Systems Manual at Sludge Fen, and Secrets of the Dreamers at the Wailing Caverns cave.
- Stonetalon Mountains: Fury of the Land at Grimtotem Post.
- Thousand Needles: Geomancy: The Stone-Cold Truth at Darkcloud Pinnacle when the guards are manageable.
- Darkshore: Nar’thalas Almanac at the Ruins of Mathystra. A Stonetalon alternate location is reported, but verify the actual spawn before relying on it.
That reaches ten unique books without claiming the two known unverified items. You can instead pick a safer contested-zone book that you encounter naturally; for Horde, Darkshore access may be less convenient than adding an Alterac Mountains stop later.
How to Reach 20 and 25 Books Without Wasting Travel
After your first ten, the goal changes. You should no longer bounce between capital cities for individual low-value pins. Fill your remaining slots in blocks: finish early-zone books you already pass, then collect the mid-level group during normal questing in Stranglethorn Vale, Arathi Highlands, Desolace, Thousand Needles and Badlands. Those add up faster than a tour of guarded Plaguelands camps on a low-level character.
- 10 to 20: use the other early-set entries plus the level-35-set books in the next table. Keep a buffer of one or two alternatives if you are on a PvP realm or a camp is heavily guarded.
- 20 to 25: add five confirmed quest-backed titles from mid or higher zones. Tanaris, Azshara, the Hinterlands and Searing Gorge fit normal later leveling routes; whether they are efficient depends on your faction and zone progress.
- After 25: there is no confirmed extra library item reward at 30 or 40 books in the current documented system. The remaining records are for completionists and individual book quests, not a promised fourth milestone.
If you are level 30 and have already handed in 25 distinct quest-backed books, check the librarian for the third reward quest. The obtained reward items are still a separate level-40 equipment decision. Book collection does not replace general character progression.
All 40 Known WoW Forever Library Books and Coordinates
The level-20, level-35, level-45 and level-60 labels below refer to source-data quest groups, not a blanket character-level requirement for picking up each book. The higher zones are nevertheless dangerous for low-level characters. Coordinates are reported book pins and should be checked in the correct Forever map layer.
Use the zone in the table, then the coordinate for that zone’s Forever map. These are reported beta-client locations, not individually re-tested on the November 4 release. The four sections group books by their associated quest-data bracket; the bracket does not mean you must reach that level before you can physically loot an accessible book. Two rows explicitly have no verified turn-in quest.

| Ataeric: On Arcane Curiosities Horde-only hand-in | Silverpine Forest43.4, 41.2 | The Sepulcher, on a table |
Duplicate warning: Rumi of Gnomeregan appears in both Thelsamar and Sentinel Hill. It is one book, not two rewards. Nar’thalas Almanac has other reported spawns as well; collecting the same title again should not be treated as a second unique quest.
Mid-Level Collection: 7 Quests + 1 Unverified Book
| Book / turn-in status | Zone / reported /way coordinates | How to reach the book |
|---|---|---|
| Basilisks: Should Petrification be Feared? | Stranglethorn Vale41.4, 50.9 | Crystalvein Mine, wooden platform by cave entrance |

| A Luddite's Guide to Caring for Your Demonic Pet Reported item; no verified hand-in quest | Swamp of Sorrows61.0, 22.0 | Fallow Sanctuary, reported inside a locked cage; spawn unconfirmed |
Unconfirmed: A Luddite’s Guide to Caring for Your Demonic Pet has a reported spot inside a cage at Fallow Sanctuary, but the available Forever quest data does not show a hand-in. Do not include it in a 20- or 25-book route calculation.
Higher-Level Collection: 7 Quests + 1 Unverified Book
| Book / turn-in status | Zone / reported /way coordinates | How to reach the book |
|---|---|---|
| Sanguine Sorcery | Swamp of Sorrows70.1, 51.8 | Upper exterior of Temple of Atal'Hakkar, not inside dungeon |
| Legends of the Tidesages | Tanaris72.6, 47.8 | Lost Rigger Cove pirate area, bookshelf |

| Everyday Etiquette | Azshara20.8, 62.0 | Haldarr Encampment, northern coastal side |
| Stonewrought Design | Blackrock Mountain48.6, 64.2 | Near Franclorn Forgewright / central vault outside instances; separate Burning Steppes map reports 29.1, 28.9 |

| A Mind of Metal | Searing Gorge37.8, 49.3 | Dwarf camp, tent table |
| Conjurer's Codex | Blasted Lands55.4, 32.2 | Open ground near the eastern ruins |
Unconfirmed: The Liminal and the Arcane is present in item data, but a live book spawn and its librarian quest have not been established. Treat the Feralas coordinate as a research lead, not a guaranteed collectible. The Stonewrought Design and Magma or Lava? coordinates refer to the internal Blackrock Mountain map, not ordinary outdoor Burning Steppes coordinates.
Late-Zone Collection: 8 Book Quests (Level-60 Set)
| Book / turn-in status | Zone / reported /way coordinates | How to reach the book |
|---|---|---|
| Undead Potatoes | Western Plaguelands38.3, 54.6 | Felstone Field, upper floor of farmhouse |

Why Your Library Book Count Might Not Increase
- You found a second location for an old title. Rumi and Nar’thalas have multiple reported spawn points. The name of the title, not the number of map pins, determines whether it is new.
- You found an item with no supported return quest. The Liminal and the Arcane and A Luddite’s Guide are in item records, but a Forever turn-in is not verified. Find a different quest-backed book.
- You crossed a faction restriction. The Antonidas quest is reported for Alliance; The Lessons of Ta’zo, Apothecary’s Primer and Ataeric quests are reported for Horde. Lootable does not necessarily mean it counts for that faction.
- You copied Classic-era coordinates. Stormwind, Eastern Plaguelands and some nested maps have different coordinates in Forever. Reset the waypoint in the correct current map layer.
- You looted but did not hand in. The milestones track completed librarian quests. Return to Garion or Owen and look for any unsubmitted books before farming more.
- The reward quest is missing. Check the 10/20/25 milestone, character level and that the prerequisite turn-ins completed. The beta-era third tier and quest display can change in the release client.
If you are using map pins, consider Books on Map Forever or OneForAll. The addon guide compares them and explains how to select a Forever-compatible client file. A map marker is a lead, not a guarantee that a book or hand-in is active.
Mage Bonus: Study, Scrolls and the Library
Mages have an extra reason to visit the library. When a Mage turns in the first book, the associated research progression unlocks access to Study, which interacts with Decipher Scrolls. Study is used inside a library and consumes a Light Feather to create a Bundle of Scrolls. Mage-specific Comprehension Charms can also be involved in deciphering scrolls. This is separate from the equipment rewards that every class can pursue.
Beta resources disagree on Study’s cooldown and on some temporary spellbook behavior, so check the tooltip in your current client rather than planning around a promised daily or hourly reset. For Mage builds and scroll-related context, continue to our WoW Forever Mage Guide.
WoW Forever Library Books FAQ
How many Library Books are in WoW Forever?
Current client trackers identify 40 different book items, but 38 known hand-in quests. Two of the 40 are still unverified as returnable. There is no confirmed 40-book equipment reward, so focus on your first 10, 20 and 25 valid hand-ins.
Can I equip the 25-book reward at level 30?
No. The third quest has been reported available from level 30, but the bow, shield and off-hand were moved to a level-40 equipment requirement. Check the item tooltip before you select the reward.
Can Horde and Alliance use the same Library Book route?
Mostly, but not perfectly. Their librarians are in different capitals, their travel costs differ, and current hand-in data shows four faction-restricted quests. Use the faction route above as a starting point, then choose alternatives that fit your leveling path.
Where is the Stormwind librarian in Forever?
Garion Wendell is in Stormwind’s Mage Tower near 49.0, 86.4 on the Forever city map. Old Classic coordinate lists can point elsewhere.
Can I collect a book again if I destroyed it?
Reports from the beta indicate that deleting a book can prevent looting it again. Keep a found book until you finish its quest, and verify your quest log before discarding one. Do not plan a route around a guaranteed respawn for the same character.
Is Book Return the same as the Library Books activity?
No. Book Return is a separate early Elwynn Forest quest involving lost books and a bag reward. It is not one of the librarian collection milestones.
A Sensible Book-Collecting Plan
Aim for 10 reliable, quest-backed books first and turn them in for the necklace. Keep picking up different titles along the 1–60 leveling path until you reach 20 and 25. Check faction limits, quest eligibility and the right map layer before traveling to a remote pin. For the last milestone, spend the travel time only if the bow, shield or off-hand would be useful to your character when it reaches the required equipment level.
