WoW Forever Tailoring Leveling 1–300: Route & Materials

WoW Forever Tailoring Leveling 1–300 guide artwork featuring Alliance and Horde tailors crafting garments with colorful cloth, sewing tools, and tailoring patterns.

To level Tailoring from 1 to 300 in WoW Forever, train the next profession rank before you hit its cap, craft Linen and Wool items first, move into Silk and Mageweave, then prepare a Runecloth route for Artisan. This guide gives a usable step-by-step craft plan, an inventory-aware shopping list and specific alternatives when a late-game pattern is unavailable.

The 1–225 route is grounded in Forever beta-era recipes and current database records. The 225–300 section is a launch plan based on the Forever client data available on October 28, 2026 (database build 1.60.1.70532, with one route comparison built on 1.60.1.70425). It is not represented as personally tested endgame progression: the level-60 launch is scheduled for November 4.

Choose a route before buying everything. A materials bundle is useful if you want to craft the items on your own; a completed-skill service addresses a different job. Both still depend on the actual game release and your character’s progression. The recipe path below remains available for self-play.

Before You Craft: Trainers, Tools and Recipe Access

Tailoring does not take a separate gathering-profession slot for cloth: cloth drops from humanoid enemies and can be traded. The main preparation is having enough bag space, the next trainer rank, vendor threads and any non-trainer patterns used by your plan. Ask a city guard for the profession trainer if you are unfamiliar with the city layout.

Trainer fees are separate from recipe reagent costs. As a historical beta-era reference, Expert training was listed at 50 silver; confirm the amount shown by the trainer before spending rather than treating this as a server-wide total cost. Skyborne characters also have starter-region Tailoring trainers at Valanaar and Shen’dar Village on Zephras Isle.

Most ordinary route crafts use a learned recipe, the proper material and enough profession skill. However, Brightcloth Cloak, Runecloth Pants and high-end alternatives require their own pattern items. A recipe appearing in a database does not automatically put it in your spellbook or guarantee the listed source drops it. Some specialized recipes also require a Spinning Wheel campsite workstation; check that requirement before buying expensive endgame reagents.

When buying materials, visit a Tailoring Supplies vendor for Coarse Thread, Fine Thread, Silken Thread, Heavy Silken Thread, Rune Thread and dye as appropriate. Keep purchased recipes, rank-training costs and consumables in separate budget lines.

Tailoring Materials Shopping List

The table below is a planning basket for one specific projected route starting at skill 1 and assuming no cloth, bolts or materials already saved. Counts are built from the estimated recipe runs shown below; the quantities will change when a yellow or green craft fails to give a skill point, when you make useful bags instead, or when you already own intermediate materials. The 278–300 finish is a separate decision and is not hidden inside these totals.

Fine Thread292Vendor supply or other reagent; buy for the actual craft count.

Heavy Silken Thread38Vendor supply or other reagent; buy for the actual craft count.
Red Dye90Vendor supply or other reagent; buy for the actual craft count.
Elixir of Wisdom53Consumed by Gloves of Meditation; not just a character buff.

Runecloth2030Convert to Bolt of Runecloth (five cloth each).
Rune Thread92Vendor supply or other reagent; buy for the actual craft count.
Gold Bar50Two per Brightcloth Cloak; acquire only if that pattern is available.
Ironweb Spider Silk70Two per Runecloth Pants; acquire only if that pattern is available.

Do not buy the listed raw cloth and the corresponding finished bolts as two separate requirements. For example, the early sequence uses roughly 85 Linen bolts: 71 for Linen Belts and 14 for Reinforced Linen Capes, or 170 Linen Cloth if you make those bolts from scratch. The bolts created during skill 1–30 are already part of those 85, not an extra purchase. The projected 225–278 part similarly uses 406 Runecloth bolts, which means 2,030 Runecloth if you have no bolts saved.

Already own a stack of Bolt of Woolen Cloth? Subtract those bolts from your planned bolt requirement before multiplying the shortfall by three. If you have leftover Silk bolts, subtract those before multiplying any remaining deficit by four. Repeat with Mageweave (five cloth per bolt) and Runecloth (five cloth per bolt). The net shopping list is the requirement minus usable inventory, not the sum of every intermediate crafted product.

At the Auction House, compare current prices per unit and include the cost of any required pattern. Vendor thread and dye are not interchangeable with AH quotes; no server-specific gold total is assumed here. If you change even one recipe step, recalculate the reagents for that replacement instead of adding both alternatives to the basket.

Tailoring Leveling Route 1–300

The values in the “Planning crafts” column are an estimated starting point from the Forever-aware route comparison, not a promise of that exact number of skill-ups. Craft until you reach the next recommended skill milestone, stop early if your skill rises faster, and prepare spare reagents if it rises more slowly. Recipe skill colors in Forever can differ sharply from old Classic charts. The last column gives the documented yellow / green / grey thresholds for each recipe; follow the color your current profession window actually shows.

Apprentice Route: Tailoring 1–75

Begin by creating Bolt of Linen Cloth and keeping those bolts. When your craft skill reaches 30, use them in Linen Belts rather than selling them. Before your character hits the 75 profession cap, train Journeyman at Tailoring 50 with character level 10. This step often saves more time than farming another stack of cloth while capped.

Journeyman Route: Tailoring 75–150

Reinforced Linen Cape provides a short bridge away from Linen, then Woolen Cape and Double-stitched Woolen Shoulders consume Wool bolts. Gloves of Meditation use a larger Wool allocation plus an Elixir of Wisdom per pair; make sure that reagent is available before converting the last of your Wool. Train Expert when eligible (Tailoring 125 and character level 20), rather than waiting until your bar stops advancing at 150.

Expert Route: Tailoring 150–225

Move from Crimson Silk Vest into Crimson Silk Pantaloons, then switch to Mageweave crafts. Black Mageweave Gloves consume two Mageweave bolts per craft; Mageweave Bag uses four. Each of these bags is a useful byproduct, but only if the pattern’s expected reagent demand makes sense for your current server.

Artisan Launch Plan: Tailoring 225–300

For skill 225–278, the recorded Forever progression begins with Runecloth Belt and changes to two pattern-dependent crafts. Do not buy the full 225–278 shopping basket until you can learn the relevant patterns. The reagent quantities below assume that exact choice, not every possible alternative.

262–278Runecloth Pants35 estimated6× Bolt of Runecloth, 2× Ironweb Spider Silk, 1× Rune ThreadPattern drop / AH; learn at 240255 / 270 / 285

For 278–300, check the next recipe’s actual skill color and whether its source and crafting station are accessible to your character. There is no single assured cheap finish in the beta-derived records. These are three concrete choices that remain eligible into the high 290s:

Eligible finishPer-craft requirementWhen it works
Mooncloth Robe — learned at Tailoring 2756× Bolt of Runecloth, 4× Mooncloth, 2× Golden Pearl, 2× Rune ThreadPattern: Mooncloth Robe is listed with the Shen’dralar Provisioner in Dire Maul; check Spinning Wheel access. Yellow threshold 290; grey 320. Best when Mooncloth is already available.
Cloak of Warding — learned at 28012× Bolt of Runecloth, 4× Guardian Stone, 1× Arcanite Bar, 2× Rune ThreadPattern: Cloak of Warding has a historically reported Dire Maul source; verify current Forever availability before using as the finish. Yellow 295; grey 325.
Felcloth Gloves — learned at 28012× Bolt of Runecloth, 20× Felcloth, 6× Demonic Rune, 8× Essence of Undeath, 2× Rune ThreadPattern: Felcloth Gloves is a drop-derived recipe. High reagent cost and pattern access can outweigh the skill-ups; yellow 295; grey 325.

For example, if you choose Mooncloth Robe at skill 278, you need at least 22 successful skill-ups to reach 300. If that means R actual robe crafts, the purchase requirement for that step is 6R Runecloth bolts + 4R Mooncloth + 2R Golden Pearls + 2R Rune Threads. Translating the bolts from zero inventory gives 30R Runecloth. A Yellow or Green craft can leave your skill unchanged, so R cannot be guaranteed from the database alone. Calculate R from your own progress, then subtract the stock in your bags.

Do not build a rapid 278–293 route around repeated Mooncloth transmutes. The Forever Mooncloth spell lists a 3.958-day cooldown and a Moonwell requirement. The conversion uses two Felcloth per cast. A theoretical list of 33 Mooncloth crafts is not a same-session skill route for one character. Buy existing Mooncloth or choose a different available recipe if the cooldown would hold up your progress. The Mooncloth Robe alternative also needs a supply of actual Mooncloth and its pattern; owning Felcloth alone does not remove that bottleneck.

A separate high-level recipe is only a practical alternative if you have its pattern, can meet any workstation requirements and can afford the listed reagents. Do not assume a tooltip’s presence in a database guarantees a vendor listing or an Auction House supply on launch day.

Useful Bags and Camp Crafts While Leveling

Tailoring can improve your inventory while you level. If you already need a bag, compare the cost of making it against a normal skill-up craft before changing your route. The full comparison of free and dropped bags belongs in the WoW Forever Bag Locations guide; the options below are useful crafts, not a second catalog of bag quests.

CraftTailoring requirement in Forever recordsPractical decision
Mageweave Bag205Already on the illustrated Expert path. Four Mageweave bolts and two Silken Threads per craft; keep bags you will equip or trade.
Runecloth BagLearn at 215 from Pattern: Runecloth BagUses 5 Runecloth bolts, 2 Rugged Leather, 1 Rune Thread, 4 Magenta Dye and 2 Cerulean Dye. Only choose it if you have the pattern and materials; grey at 260.
Linen Bag1An early bag using 3 Linen bolts and 3 Coarse Thread; the materials are additional unless replacing a planned craft.
Small Silk Pack145Requires 3 Silk bolts, 2 Heavy Leather and 3 Fine Thread. Recalculate the Silk basket if you craft it in addition to the route.

At Tailoring 20, you can access a faction-specific Faction Banner (Horde; the Alliance version is Faction Banner). The recipe consumes one Bolt of Linen Cloth and one Coarse Thread, and its campsite use grants a level-dependent Spirit effect to nearby members of your faction. This bonus does not stack with Divine Spirit. Blizzard describes early profession camp items as obtained through starter-zone quests or trainer purchase once the profession reaches the required skill; the ability is not automatically in every tailor’s book merely from leveling.

At Tailoring 140, the Spinning Wheel is a second-tier Camping craft. It uses two Simple Wood, five Bolt of Silk Cloth and three Fine Thread and requires the Blueprint to be learned. The client record associates the Blueprint with the City of Dalaran dungeon’s Unstable Sentinel; a listed loot association is not a guaranteed personal drop. The Spinning Wheel supplies the Banner’s buff and permits some advanced crafts at a campsite. The third-tier Loom is a Tailoring-300 feature, so it is a destination unlock, not a safe prerequisite for leveling from 285 to 300.

Blizzard’s Camping rules require a nearby Basic Campfire, a limited number of placed camp objects, and time sitting or crafting to receive nearby buffs. Coordinate group utilities rather than treating each object as a separate permanent profession stat bonus.

Common Tailoring Route Mistakes

  1. Selling all your bolts: the early Linen bolts become material for belts and capes, then Wool, Silk, Mageweave and Runecloth bolts feed later crafts. Save the number you still need.
  2. Crafting at your skill cap: Journeyman, Expert and Artisan require the right trainer, profession skill and character level. A recipe cannot bypass the current rank cap.
  3. Using Classic skill thresholds: several Forever recipes turn yellow or grey far earlier than their Classic versions. Check the current recipe’s color before committing to 30 more crafts.
  4. Buying reagents before the pattern: pattern drops, Dire Maul vendor access and high-level workstation recipes are separate unlocks. Confirm the learning source first.
  5. Treating Mooncloth as an instant material: the personal spell cooldown can stall a whole endgame section. Finished Mooncloth on the Auction House is different from crafting it yourself.
  6. Assuming fixed AH cost or exact attempts: the estimated row quantity is not guaranteed; use skill color, owned bolts and local market conditions to decide the next purchase.

A good recovery rule: check the skill cap, then the recipe in your profession list, then the pattern source and workstation, and only then the reagents. That order usually reveals why the route has stalled without sending you into unrelated dungeon farms.

Choose Between Materials and Completed Tailoring Skill

If the route is enjoyable and you only want to reduce cloth farming, a WoW Forever Profession Kit offers route materials for your own crafting. You still handle profession training, any vendor or dropped patterns, tools, quests and special blueprints. A fixed kit cannot guarantee a precise number of skill-ups when yellow or green crafts may require extras; check the advertised kit scope for your selected profession.

If your goal is the Tailoring skill itself rather than crafting each item, the WoW Forever Tailoring Leveling service offers an agreed current-to-target profession range with materials and trainer fees handled under its published terms. Neither option automatically grants every rare pattern, a Dungeon Blueprint or a particular endgame craft. These are launch-dependent services, so verify the current start window and configuration before ordering.

For a broader decision about whether Tailoring is worth a primary-profession slot for your class, use the WoW Forever Profession Tier List. The route on this page is for players who have already chosen Tailoring and want to spend their cloth efficiently.

Tailoring Leveling FAQ

Do I need a gathering profession with Tailoring?

No. Cloth comes mainly from humanoid enemies and can be traded. Enchanting is a common partner if you plan to disenchant suitable crafted gear, but it does not supply the cloth used by these recipes.

Why did my Tailoring stop at 75, 150 or 225?

You are probably at the profession rank cap. Train Journeyman at skill 50 and character level 10, Expert at skill 125 and level 20, or Artisan at skill 200 and level 35, then resume crafting.

Is Tailoring 225–300 available in the October beta?

The October beta evidence supported the Expert 225 cap, not personally tested Artisan-to-300 progression. The upper-level plan is based on Forever client recipes for the November 4 level-60 launch.

Can I finish Tailoring 278–300 entirely with Mooncloth?

Not in one ordinary crafting session on one character: the Mooncloth spell has a multi-day personal cooldown. Choose a workable learned endgame recipe and account for Mooncloth purchase, drop patterns and workstations.

Will a Profession Kit train Tailoring for me?

No. The kit provides a defined materials basket for self-play. It does not automatically train ranks, buy recipes or complete profession quests. Tailoring Leveling is a separate service for an agreed completed skill target.

Should I craft bags instead of the cheapest skill-ups?

Craft useful bags when you need the inventory space or can sell the result; otherwise compare their per-craft requirements and current color with the planned step. Do not add a bag craft on top of the shopping list without subtracting or replacing other crafts.
