To beat Kith’ix in WoW Midnight Patch 12.1.5, control the aqir adds first, collect Lady Liadrin’s Light before Extinguish, survive each 100-energy darkness intermission, and save Bloodlust for the final phase at 25% health. The fight becomes much easier once tanks keep the adds away from the boss and everyone knows where to stand when the arena fills with darkness.
The Unbinding of Kith’ix is a level-90, single-boss raid introduced on October 13, 2026 (October 14 for the European rollout). It has Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic and Mythic difficulties. Mythic is unusual: it accepts flexible groups of 15–25 players instead of requiring a fixed 20. This guide covers the kill itself, the mechanics that change on harder difficulties, the ten standard gear drops and the separate campaign reward.
Kith’ix Strategy: The One-Minute Raid Plan
- Separate the boss and the swarm. Keep aqir at least 25 yards away from Kith’ix so Commanding Presence does not protect them.
- Kill the Voidweaver first. Move the tanked Venomous Hulk onto the stationary caster for cleave; keep the Hulk’s frontal away from players. Control Bomber Beetles and stagger their explosions.
- Handle the boss abilities. Take a Light’s Embrace mote before Extinguish, move fear targets away before dispelling them, and swap tanks after Dark Devastation.
- Finish adds before 100 energy. During Suffocating Darkness, stand in Lady Liadrin’s Refulgent Bulwark, heal Abyssal Grasp absorbs, and intercept incoming Eclipse Fragments on Heroic and Mythic.
- Burn at 25%. When Last Light restores the raid, use Bloodlust/Heroism and offensive cooldowns. Place Null Gates carefully, dodge Nullshards, and have the tank with Negation clear a gate before the debuff ends.
- Beat the enrage. Kill Kith’ix before the eighth Eightfold Eclipse.
If your group is wiping, do not ask DPS to hit the boss harder while a Voidweaver is still casting Nightfall or several beetles are exploding together. Fix the add assignments and intermission first; the final burn comes after them.
The Unbinding of Kith’ix: Location, Modes and Group Requirements
| Feature | Patch 12.1.5 details |
|---|---|
| Boss | Kith’ix (one encounter) |
| Location | The Underbelly, beneath the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle |
| Character level | 90 |
| Difficulties | Story Mode, Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic, Mythic |
| Mythic raid size | 15–25 players, flexible |
| Boss’s highest base gear drop | 324 ilvl on Mythic (Myth 3/6) |
| Fight structure | Phase 1 with adds, repeating 100-energy intermission, final phase at 25% HP |
Which difficulty should you run? Choose Story Mode to finish the campaign and claim its separate jewelry reward. Raid Finder is the simplest route to standard boss loot and raid Great Vault credit. Normal and Heroic are better for organized groups seeking higher-track items. Mythic offers the best base boss drops, but punishes mistakes with extra eggs, stricter Nullshard management and a more demanding tank mechanic.
Match the Kith'ix Run to the Reward You Need
If your group can handle the add waves and the final burn, use the strategy below to clear the boss yourself. If a stable Heroic or Mythic roster is the bottleneck, compare the matching LepreStore raid service before choosing a difficulty.
Where Is the Kith’ix Raid Entrance?
Go to the Vaults of Atal’Utek on the Coiled Isle, reach the northern Underbelly area and follow it toward the northeastern end. The raid portal is near the following TomTom waypoint:
/way #2613 74.0 7.4
Expect hostile enemies on the approach. The entrance is deeper in the Underbelly, not the main Venomous Abyss raid door. For Story Mode, continue The Promise of Tomorrow campaign and speak to the Memory of Ancient Darkness near the entrance to start the story encounter. You do not need a Mythic roster just to complete the campaign quest.
Before Pulling: Assign These Jobs
Use two tanks. Method’s 20-player reference group uses two tanks, four healers and fourteen damage dealers; treat that as an example rather than a mandatory roster. Mythic’s legal group size is 15–25, so adjust healing and damage coverage to your group.
- Boss tank and Hulk tank: agree who starts on each target, who moves the Hulk to the Voidweaver and how Dark Devastation swaps will work.
- Beetle controller: assign a player with grips or reliable control to bring Bomber Beetles into a safe kill location one at a time. A Death Knight grip is useful, not a raid-entry requirement.
- Fear dispels: assign healers and tell marked players to move away from the group before being dispelled.
- Light collection: have everyone watch for Liadrin’s motes before Extinguish rather than hoping a defensive will save them.
- Heroic/Mythic fragment intercepts: place markers and rotate players who will intercept Eclipse Fragments without stacking their damage.
- Final burn: hold Bloodlust/Heroism and major cooldowns for 25% health unless your group has a tested alternate plan.
Phase 1: Keep the Aqir Swarm Under Control
Kith’ix uses Voidswarm to summon a Venomous Hulk, a Voidweaver and Bomber Beetles. The boss’s Commanding Presence heavily reduces damage dealt to aqir close to him. Positioning is the first DPS check: the adds must be at least 25 yards from Kith’ix before the raid commits its damage.
1. Focus the Voidweaver and Cleave the Venomous Hulk
The Voidweaver stays in place and deals raid damage with Nightfall, which becomes more dangerous as it continues to cast. Kill this add first. The off-tank should pull the Venomous Hulk onto the Voidweaver so cleave hits both targets, while the boss remains far enough away not to buff them.
The Hulk’s Venom Roar hits in a frontal cone and can knock players back. Point it away from the raid and use a tank movement tool when needed. A healer or ranged DPS standing in front of the Hulk is a positioning mistake, not a healing problem.
2. Stagger Bomber Beetle Explosions and Destroy Eggs
Bomber Beetles fixate on players and explode when they reach someone or time out. Each explosion applies Digestive Juices, creating raid-wide damage that becomes hard to heal when several beetles detonate together. Control the beetles, bring one into the planned explosion area, wait for the damaging effect to settle, then handle the next one. Do not let three fixated players drag beetles through the raid.
On Heroic and Mythic, dead larger adds leave Mindstinger Eggs. Switch to the eggs before they hatch into Mindstingers that can stun players. On Mythic, beetles also leave eggs when they explode; placing them near your cleave group makes cleanup easier. Eggs are not protected by Commanding Presence, so deal with them immediately.
3. Survive Extinguish, Fear and Dark Devastation
- Extinguish: a dangerous raid-wide Shadow shockwave. Pick up a Light’s Embrace mote from Lady Liadrin shortly before the hit; it reduces Shadow damage dramatically. Personal immunities are a backup, not the regular plan.
- Unspeakable Horrors / Overwhelming Fear: marked players move out of the group. A dispel or the fear’s expiration causes a scream that hurts nearby players more than distant ones. Dispel only when the player is safely away.
- Twisted Appendage: dodge the telegraphed tentacle strikes. They are avoidable and can kill players during otherwise clean add control.
- Dark Devastation: the current tank takes a heavy hit and gains Devastated, which increases subsequent Physical and Shadow damage taken. Swap tanks after every cast. Keep the impact away from the group; on Heroic and Mythic, also place the resulting Voidscars where the intermission team can manage their fragments.
Intermission at 100 Energy: Stay Inside Lady Liadrin’s Light
When Kith’ix reaches 100 energy, Suffocating Darkness closes in around the arena. Liadrin creates a central safe area called Refulgent Bulwark. Move inside it immediately. Any aqir still alive at the start become empowered by Dark Frenzy, gaining speed and dangerous raid-wide pressure. This is why the last add is more important than a few extra seconds of boss damage.
The intermission still includes pressure from the boss. Continue collecting Light’s Embrace, dodging strikes, placing tank effects and sending feared players away from the main stack as space allows.
- Healers: players hit by Abyssal Grasp receive a large healing absorb while being pulled toward the darkness. Remove the absorb within 8 seconds or risk losing the player outside the shield. Call these targets first.
- Assigned interceptors on Heroic/Mythic: Eclipse Fragments released from Voidscars move toward Liadrin. Intercept them before they arrive, but space interceptors so splash damage and lingering effects do not overlap. Fragments that reach her shrink the shield, leaving less safe space for everyone.
- Tanks: keep Dark Devastation placements controlled near the planned edge rather than scattering Voidscars across the middle. Their location affects future fragment paths.
At full energy, Liadrin casts Divine Radiance, clears the darkness and briefly stuns the boss. Reposition and repeat Phase 1 until Kith’ix reaches 25%. Each completed intermission leaves Liadrin Exhausted, making the next cycle less forgiving.
Final Phase at 25%: Null Gates, Negation and Eightfold Eclipse
At 25% health, Stygian Howl stops the previous phase and clears remaining adds. Liadrin uses Last Light to restore the group and grant Luminous Grace, which increases damage by 50% and improves healing. This is the right moment for Bloodlust/Heroism, offensive cooldowns and damage potions. You have to finish the remaining health before the eighth Eightfold Eclipse wipes the raid.
Place Null Gates Where Tanks Can Reach Them
Targeted players get a short warning before a Null Gate opens where they stand. Move the gate away from the main raid path, but do not place it so far away that the tank cannot reach it. Gates release Nullshards across the room; touching shards adds Nullify stacks. On Heroic, five stacks are lethal; on Mythic, only three are needed. Spread gates around assigned edges and keep a clear movement lane for the tank.
Tank Negation: Swap, Clear a Gate, Survive the Explosion
Negation is applied to the current tank. The other tank should taunt immediately while the affected player runs into a Null Gate to remove the effect. On Heroic, the tank has roughly 8 seconds to do this. Running through the gate triggers Explosive Restabilization, a large raid-damage event that must be covered with defenses and healing. Warn the raid before the gate is cleared.
On Mythic, Negation lasts longer but applies multiple stacks: the affected tank must clear three Null Gates to remove the effect safely. Plan a reachable route through three gates, and do not allow DPS or healers to block it with overlapping shard patterns. A tank who cannot reach the necessary gates before Negation expires will die even if boss damage is ahead of schedule.
Kith’ix Strategy by Role
| Role | Your most important decisions |
|---|---|
| Tanks | Keep the Hulk on the Voidweaver and both away from Kith’ix; face Venom Roar away; swap on every Dark Devastation; place Voidscars cleanly; in the final phase, taunt on Negation and clear the required Null Gates. |
| Healers | Plan coverage for Voidswarm/Nightfall and beetle explosions; dispel Overwhelming Fear only after targets move out; clear Abyssal Grasp absorbs quickly; prepare strong healing for Eclipse pulses and each Negation gate explosion. |
| DPS | Attack the Voidweaver and controlled add stack before the boss; kill eggs promptly; collect Light’s Embrace; intercept fragments if assigned; save the strongest planned burst for the 25% burn while still avoiding Nullshards. |
There is no special class that replaces clean assignments. A Death Knight makes beetle control convenient, but any organized roster with enough interrupts, control and survivability can build a reliable plan.
Normal vs Heroic vs Mythic: What Actually Changes?
| Difficulty | What to pay attention to |
|---|---|
| Raid Finder / Normal | Learn add separation, Light’s Embrace timing, Dark Devastation swaps, the protected intermission and the final burn. Normal offers standard raid mechanics without the full Heroic coordination load. |
| Heroic | Mindstinger Eggs after key add deaths, Voidscars from Dark Devastation and incoming Eclipse Fragments make add cleanup and intermission positioning more important. Final-phase Nullify becomes lethal at five stacks. |
| Mythic (15–25 players) | Bomber Beetles also produce eggs; Nullify kills at three stacks; Negation requires the tank to clear three Null Gates. Expect tighter positioning, heavier healing pressure and more demanding assignments. |
Suggested progression: practise the rhythm of the adds and shield in Normal, then assign egg cleanup and fragment interceptors for Heroic. On Mythic, make your three-gate Negation route and beetle-egg location part of the pull plan before you worry about squeezing in more damage.
Five Common Kith’ix Wipes and How to Fix Them
| What wiped the raid | What to change on the next pull |
|---|---|
| Voidweaver survives while the boss is taking damage | Move the Hulk onto the Voidweaver, maintain 25+ yards from Kith’ix and make the caster the main damage target. |
| Several beetles explode close together | Assign one controller and stagger explosions; do not send fixated players back into the stack. |
| Players die to Extinguish or a fear dispel | Call for Light’s Embrace motes before the hit; hold fear dispels until marked players move away. |
| Liadrin’s barrier shrinks or Abyssal Grasp kills players | Clear adds before 100 energy, assign fragment soakers and prioritise the eight-second healing absorbs. |
| The final phase collapses to gates or Negation | Use assigned gate drop positions, keep a tank lane open, call each gate explosion and preserve your burn cooldowns for 25%. |
The Unbinding of Kith’ix Loot: Item Levels and All 10 Gear Drops
Kith’ix has ten standard equipment drops: two swords, four armor pieces, one ring and three trinkets. The base drop depends on difficulty; all four standard raid difficulties start at rank 3/6 of their respective upgrade tracks. The Mythic boss drop is 324 ilvl (Myth 3/6), not the 344 ilvl advertised in early PTR reports. Item upgrades and certain other reward systems are separate from the boss’s immediate base drop.
| Difficulty | Base item level | Upgrade track |
|---|---|---|
| Raid Finder | 285 | Veteran 3/6 |
| Normal | 298 | Champion 3/6 |
| Heroic | 311 | Hero 3/6 |
| Mythic | 324 | Myth 3/6 |
| Kith’ix item | Slot | Who uses it | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lu'selama, Light's Justice | Two-handed sword | Strength | Damage can grant Haste and trigger an extra Radiant strike. |
| Sanctified Knight's Phoenixblade | One-handed sword | Intellect | Spell damage and healing can trigger a supporting effect for nearby allies or enemies. |
| Corroded Hulk's Skullcap | Plate head | Plate wearers | Void Eruption; stronger when Venomcursed. |
| Aberrant Commander's Gauntlets | Mail hands | Mail wearers | Void Eruption; stronger when Venomcursed. |
| Chestwrap of Palpable Terror | Leather chest | Leather wearers | Void Eruption; stronger when Venomcursed. |
| Voidweaver's Leggings | Cloth legs | Cloth wearers | Void Eruption; stronger when Venomcursed. |
| Band of the Swarmcaller | Ring | Eligible specs | Can summon an Acidbrood Scourge that deals Nature damage around its target. |
| Lightbearer's Shield Fragment | Trinket | Tanks | Absorbs damage and redirects part of nearby allies' damage to the wearer. |
| Sigil of the Impending Eclipse | Trinket | Healers | Healing can trigger a Haste boost linked to the target's missing health. |
| Twisted Horror's Tendril | Trinket | Damage dealers | Builds Critical Strike bonuses during combat. |
Cantrip armor: Corroded Hulk’s Skullcap, Aberrant Commander’s Gauntlets, Chestwrap of Palpable Terror and Voidweaver’s Leggings share Void Eruption, an area-damage proc. Its damage is increased by 15% when you are Venomcursed from an appropriate Ula’tek item. These armor pieces occupy class-set slots; eligible pieces can be converted through the Catalyst while retaining their special effect. Before making a conversion, check whether the result completes or breaks your current set bonus.
If you are already farming Ula’tek cantrip equipment, compare the item combinations in our Venomous Abyss raid guide. Do not assume every Kith’ix proc is better than an upgraded item you already own; weapon and trinket value depends on your specialization.
Story Mode and The Promise of Tomorrow Quest Reward
Story Mode is not a fifth tier of standard raid drops. It is a campaign-friendly way to defeat Kith’ix for the associated The Unbinding of Kith’ix quest. Completing that quest lets you choose one Hero 1/6 piece of jewelry:
- Bloodmark Signet — ring.
- Pendant of Venomous Vigil — necklace.
The quest also awards the Hiveborne Hearthstone toy. Those are quest rewards, not entries in Kith’ix’s ten-item boss loot table. If you only want the ring or necklace, finish the relevant campaign steps and use Story Mode; you do not need to organize a Heroic or Mythic clear for that reward. Compare the jewelry with your current slots before choosing.
Great Vault Credit, Toys and Achievements
A Raid Finder, Normal, Heroic or Mythic kill of Kith’ix counts as one Season 2 raid boss for the Great Vault’s raid row. The row unlocks choices at 2, 4 and 6 boss kills across eligible Season 2 raids. Because this instance has only one boss, clearing Kith’ix alone does not unlock a raid Vault slot. Story Mode does not count. Combine the kill with your other raid bosses rather than expecting a full Vault row from a single encounter.
For the separate choice between your weekly Vault item and bonus rolls, see our Great Vault vs Nebulous Voidcore guide.
Kith’ix also has collectible rewards beyond the ten equipment items: Shadeweaver’s Hearthstone, the Kith’ix’s Seal housing decoration, and Libram of the Matriarch on Mythic. The Libram leads to Glyph of the Matriarch’s Wings, a cosmetic change to a Paladin’s Avenging Wrath appearance. Do not confuse the raid-drop Shadeweaver’s Hearthstone with the campaign’s Hiveborne Hearthstone. There are also Kith’ix completion achievements for higher difficulties and guild groups.
The Unbinding of Kith’ix FAQ
How many bosses are in The Unbinding of Kith’ix?
One. Kith’ix is the entire raid encounter. The add waves and intermissions are mechanics inside that fight, not separate bosses.
Can you do Mythic Kith’ix with fewer than 20 players?
Yes. Blizzard permits a flexible 15–25-player group for this particular Mythic raid.
Does Story Mode give the Hero-track ring or necklace?
Yes, through the related campaign quest. You choose Bloodmark Signet or Pendant of Venomous Vigil at Hero 1/6; this is not ordinary boss loot and Story Mode does not count toward raid Great Vault progress.
Does Mythic Kith’ix drop item level 344 gear?
No. In Patch 12.1.5, the boss’s immediate base Mythic drops are ilvl 324 (Myth 3/6). The ilvl 344 figure came from an older PTR loot configuration and should not be used to describe a fresh boss drop.
When should we use Bloodlust on Kith’ix?
At 25% health, after Last Light begins the final phase and grants Luminous Grace. The raid must defeat the boss before the eighth Eightfold Eclipse.
Why are we dying during the intermission?
Check three things: living aqir have gained Dark Frenzy, players are outside Liadrin’s shield or not clearing Abyssal Grasp absorbs, or Eclipse Fragments are reaching Liadrin and shrinking the safe area. Fix those assignments before changing your DPS setup.
Does one Kith’ix kill unlock a raid Great Vault slot?
No. It contributes one eligible boss kill, but the first raid slot needs two boss kills from eligible Season 2 raid content. Finish another eligible boss to reach the threshold.
