How Ranked Play Works in Black Ops 7
Ranked Play runs on Skill Rating (SR) — you gain it for wins and strong performances, lose it for defeats. Everything else is built on that number:
- 50 wins to unlock. You need 50 wins in standard matchmade multiplayer before you can queue. Party Games and LTMs don’t count.
- Three placement matches. Each season starts you Unranked. Win three placements and the game sets your starting rank.
- Eight divisions. Bronze → Silver → Gold → Platinum → Diamond → Crimson → Iridescent → Top 250. The first six are split into three tiers each.
- Iridescent needs 10,000 SR. Past that, your raw SR sets your spot on the public Top 250 leaderboard, numbered 1 to 250.
- CDL rules. Matches use the Call of Duty League ruleset — Hardpoint, Search and Destroy, and Control, with the same weapon and attachment restrictions the pros play. Every match opens with a veto stage.
- Party limits. Diamond caps you at 4-player parties, Crimson and above at 2. Above Diamond you are mostly solo queueing.
What Changed in Season 05
- Frequency and more maps were added to the Ranked map pool.
- Higher SR losses at the top. Treyarch raised base SR loss for the higher ranks to counter Season 04 inflation, so bad sessions cost more than they used to.
- Opponent Rank Adjustments tightened. You now only get a bonus or penalty when the opponent is 3 or more rank tiers above or below you. Beating someone one tier up pays nothing.
- SR freezes for the final week during the Ranked Series Event. Whatever rank you hold going in is the rank your season rewards are based on.
That last point is the real deadline: the season locks your rewards before it ends, and the new SR losses make a late climb slower than it was last season.
