Modern Warfare 4 launches with 20 named Multiplayer battlegrounds on October 23, 2026: 12 Core 6v6 maps, three Ground War maps, four dedicated Gunfight arenas and the changing Kill Block training facility. Shipment joins the map pool on October 27 rather than launch day.
This guide collects every map from the announced launch roadmap, identifies the six Core environments that were playable in the Beta, and explains what kind of fighting each location invites. Use it to decide which map family suits your next session, not as a claim that any one arena has already been proven the fastest for XP or camo challenges.
MW4 Multiplayer Maps at a Glance
How Many Multiplayer Maps Are in MW4 at Launch?
The count makes more sense when you separate playlists. A Core 6v6 map, a large Ground War location and a modular Gunfight environment are different types of play spaces, not twenty interchangeable entries in one playlist.
| Map family | Launch count | Choose it for |
|---|---|---|
| Core 6v6 | 12 | Standard Multiplayer gunfights, objectives and learning your preferred routes |
| Ground War | 3 | Large battlefields, vehicles, Outposts and long rotations |
| Dedicated Gunfight | 4 | Small arena rounds and adapting to the match’s issued equipment |
| Kill Block | 1 environment | Gunfight on a modular arena that changes its layout |
If you want to spend time improving a particular gun, start by deciding whether you need a normal Multiplayer match, a large-scale objective battle or a round-based arena. That determines what you should prepare long before you worry about a supposed “best map.”

All 12 MW4 Core 6v6 Maps
These twelve new environments are scheduled for the October 23 launch. Their locations and major landmarks were introduced in Activision’s Multiplayer showcase. Beta marks the six Core maps previously playable during public testing; it does not mean the other six were absent from the planned release.
| Map | Location and defining features | In Beta? |
|---|---|---|
| Cachette | France; rail terminal, covert armory, containers and roofs | Yes |
| Coal | Remote former Soviet coal plant; processing buildings and flood plain | No |
| Lithium | Mexico; lithium refinery, industrial yards and interactive garage doors | Yes |
| Lotus | Korean fishing village; market, hostel and boathouse | Yes |
| Mumbai | India; crowded homes, Victorian market and railway | No |
| Munition | North Korean command site; depot, hangars and skybridge | No |
| Nautical | South Korean ferry with debris, fires and exposed decks | No |
| Reactor U92 | Korean reactor complex; damaged command room and containment pool | No |
| Rooftops | New York; snow-covered Hotel Times West roofs and utility rooms | Yes |
| Sentry | North Korean base in whiteout conditions; barracks and generators | No |
| Silkworm | South Korean shopping district; subway entrance and narrow storefronts | Yes |
| Transit 213 | Western India; overgrown bus depot and repair yard | Yes |
These names are distinct from older maps reused as Kill Block Slabs. A familiar bit of Crash or Shoot House inside Kill Block does not make it a separate remastered Core 6v6 launch map.
Six Beta Maps: Useful Landmarks to Learn First
Beta footage and Activision’s map notes offer more concrete starting points for the six environments already played by the community. They are useful preparation, but any final map-specific performance ranking should use the release client.
Cachette: Use the Upper Routes
Containers and nearby buildings make the central routes busy, while rooftops create another layer of angles. Learn how to move between the Armory, Lounge and surrounding upper paths. The simple improvement is to check for a second-floor opponent before sprinting through an apparently clear ground lane.
Lithium: The Garage Doors Change a Fight
The Mexican refinery has distinctive mid-range lanes, but the interactive garage shutters are its most memorable trick. A partially closed shutter still leaves room for a slide underneath. Prepare a mid-range weapon, then practice the shutter route rather than treating the door as an impassable wall.
Lotus: Switch Between Street and Boathouse
Lotus offers two very different fights in one fishing village: longer views along the street and shorter encounters inside the market, hostel and boathouse. The exterior pipe beside the Boathouse leads toward an upper-floor approach. Recognizing which route is open is more valuable than always rushing the same doorway.
Rooftops: Learn the Vertical Connections
Hotel Times West is not just one flat roof. Its greenhouse, laundry room, catwalks, patio and scaffolding create a network of level changes. Learn a safe route between two adjacent elevations and check nearby interior exits before holding a distant sightline.
Silkworm: Expect Immediate Street-Level Duels
Shop fronts and alleyways around the subway entrance bring fights close to the player. It is a sensible place to practice quick aim transitions and short-range handling, based on the published layout. The convenience store and game room are clear landmarks for orienting yourself when rotating between streets.
Transit 213: Let the Buses Define Your Lanes
Derelict buses break up an Indian depot into pockets of cover, while the Center Lot still opens longer sightlines. Check both the front and rear exits of a bus before advancing. Treat the bus body as temporary cover and remember that the route out of a vehicle may be more exposed than the space inside it.
MW4 Ground War Maps: Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium and Forest
The October launch roadmap lists three large-scale Ground War locations. Activision’s Beta materials describe Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium in detail; Forest appears in the later launch roadmap, but a comparable layout guide for it is not yet available.
| Ground War map | What is established | Preparation priority |
|---|---|---|
| Imjin Farmland | Open farmland, roads and flatter routes within the Hajin region; featured in the Beta. | Plan vehicle crossings and keep a long-range or anti-vehicle option. |
| Wolves Stadium | A dense urban area with stadium surroundings, buildings, tunnels and elevated approaches; featured in the Beta. | Identify vertical access, tunnels and defensible Outposts. |
| Forest | Named as a launch Ground War battleground in the October roadmap. | Check its live sightlines and vehicle routes before settling on a loadout. |
Ground War: Combat Outpost revolves around establishing Outposts, earning resources and using those resources to push new objectives. Long rotations, vehicles and large spaces make the experience different from traditional Core 6v6. A rifle setup that feels comfortable on Lithium may need different range and utility priorities here.
MW4 Gunfight Maps and the Kill Block Difference
The dedicated Gunfight arena list for October 23 is Smuggler, NYC, Cafe and Library. The roadmap confirms their names and launch window, but does not establish every sightline, room layout or exact matchup for each one. Until those arenas can be explored in the release build, treat detailed route diagrams and spawn claims with caution.
| Named arena | Current confirmed information |
|---|---|
| Smuggler | Dedicated Gunfight arena listed for October 23 |
| NYC | Dedicated Gunfight arena listed for October 23 |
| Cafe | Dedicated Gunfight arena listed for October 23 |
| Library | Dedicated Gunfight arena listed for October 23 |
Kill Block Is One Modular Environment, Not 500 Separate Maps
Kill Block is located at the Westbridge Training Facility. Each layout connects three Slabs, with one central section and two outer sections. Different combinations reshape cover, lanes and flanking routes; Activision says over 500 configurations are possible. During the Beta, Gunfight rotated the configuration and shared randomized loadout every two rounds.
Some Slabs recall recognizable Modern Warfare settings such as Crash, Highrise or Shoot House. The familiar pieces can make a round feel recognizable, but you cannot rely on a fixed whole-map plan. At the start of each configuration, find the nearest cover, the longest visible lane and one alternative route before you commit to a push.
The published beta and launch previews describe Gunfight variants on Kill Block, including 3v3 and 10v10. Do not confuse those variants with the four separately named Gunfight arenas in the roadmap.
When Does Shipment Release in MW4?
Shipment is scheduled for October 27, 2026 — four days after Modern Warfare 4 launches. The returning container-yard map is an early post-launch addition, not the thirteenth map in the twelve-map launch-day Core list.
Its close-quarters reputation makes it an obvious map to watch for people interested in fast engagements. However, the roadmap does not establish a permanent Shipment 24/7 playlist, particular Weapon XP rates or guaranteed challenge eligibility. Those details should come from the live modes and counters, not assumptions about past versions of Shipment.
Which MW4 Maps Should You Learn for Your Playstyle?
There is no verified release-build performance tier list yet. The choices below come from the announced environments and beta map layouts, making them starting points to try rather than measured win-rate or XP rankings.
| Your priority | Map examples to learn | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| Short-range reactions | Silkworm, interior Lotus routes, Cachette interiors | Shop corners, narrow approaches and connected rooms |
| Mid-range gun control | Lithium, Transit 213 outer lanes | More visible lanes broken by refinery equipment or buses |
| Vertical movement | Rooftops, Cachette, elevated Wolves Stadium routes | Multiple levels, climbable routes and exposed angles |
| Vehicle and squad objectives | Imjin Farmland, Wolves Stadium; examine Forest at launch | Ground War spaces and Combat Outpost mechanics |
| Adapting between rounds | Kill Block | Changing Slab configurations and issued loadouts |
A map with quick fights is not automatically the map that gives the best Weapon XP per elapsed minute. Queue time, match mode, objective participation and the gun you actually use all matter. For a separate progression plan, see our MW4 weapon leveling and attachments guide.
If you also intend to work on Mastery camos, inspect each weapon’s current objective before picking a session. The hosted-lobby camo challenge guide explains how to check whether an exact task can register in that format. A map name alone never settles a challenge’s mode or target requirements.
Are Hajin and Zodiac MW4 Multiplayer Maps?
No. Hajin is Modern Warfare 4’s separate DMZ extraction environment, while Zodiac is a Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence map. They are not extra entries in the twenty named October 23 Multiplayer arenas. Ground War locations can share the broader Hajin setting without being identical to the full DMZ map.
For players interested in camo progression, this distinction matters: Multiplayer, DMZ and Warzone have separate Mastery challenges even though the early weapon Camo Track is shared. The complete MW4 Mastery Camos overview covers the modes side by side, while the DMZ Helio guide stays focused on that separate route.
A Practical Plan for Your First Multiplayer Sessions
- Choose the queue, then the map. Core Multiplayer, Ground War and Gunfight demand different loadouts and movement habits. Do not assume every named arena appears in every playlist.
- Pick two Core maps to study. For example, learn one tighter environment such as Silkworm and one with clearer mid-range views such as Lithium. Do not attempt to memorize all twelve at once.
- Learn three landmarks per map. Identify your nearest protected route, an exposed crossing and the access point to a second lane or elevation.
- Adapt your weapon setup. A compact close-quarters loadout and a mid-range rifle may solve different situations. Check attachments you actually have unlocked instead of copying a post-launch meta build sight unseen.
- Review objectives and progress separately. A good score in a match does not itself prove a particular camo challenge advanced. Note your intended task before you queue and check its counter afterward.
- Use the full release to refine your choices. Compare how often you can take useful fights, win objectives and progress the weapon you care about. That is more meaningful than picking a map from someone else’s untested “fastest” list.
If you are considering hosted selfplay, read how MW4 Bot Lobbies work and confirm the available match settings with the provider. The service is for playing the session yourself; the map list here does not imply every map or queue can be selected on demand.
