WoW Forever Launch Checklist: Everything to Do Before November 4

WoW Forever Launch Checklist 2026 – November 4 Release Preparation Guide with Horde and Alliance Characters.

World of Warcraft: Forever launches globally on November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST. You can play the standard game with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time; buying an optional upgrade is not required to enter Azeroth. The most useful launch preparation is choosing your region, ruleset, faction, class and friends before you create a character, then making sure your account and game client are ready.

There are three deadlines worth separating: the free October 19 Stress Test, the October 27-November 3 Early Name Reservation window for eligible upgrade owners, and the November 4 launch. They do different jobs. Testing a character does not reserve its name, and reserving a name does not level it. The first raids open later, on December 9.

WoW Forever Release Date and Pre-Launch Schedule

The dates below come from Blizzard announcements. Published North American launch timing uses PST; some regions will see the launch on November 5 on their local calendars. Convert the official launch time for your own location rather than assuming midnight or a universal regional reset.

WhenEventWhat You Should Do
October 19, 2026Open Stress TestTry the client, controls and initial combat for free. Test-server characters, names and guilds will be wiped afterward.
October 21, 2026Last full beta dayFinish any build or route testing; save your preferences outside the test client rather than assuming beta progress persists.
October 27-November 3Early Name ReservationEligible upgrade owners can create and customize up to three characters to reserve their full two-part names.
November 4, 3:00 p.m. PSTGlobal launchEnter with subscription/Game Time, check the correct Forever game version, and start your selected ruleset and faction.
November 4-11 (PST)Invite-A-Friend launch windowEligible invited friends can redeem launch codes for access during the stated week, not for beta access.
December 9, 2026First raids unlockWork toward level 60, relevant gear and a stable group; raids are not opening on November 4.

Blizzard has announced regional Stress Test times for October 19: North America at 2:00 p.m. PDT, Europe at 19:00 CEST, Korea at 06:00 KST on October 20, and Taiwan at 05:00 CST on October 20. That event can finish earlier or later than expected. Follow the official announcement if its schedule changes.

The WoW Forever Pre-Launch Checklist

Before worrying about an exact leveling route, settle the choices that are awkward to reverse. This is the order I would use for a new main or a returning player with limited playtime.

  1. Check game access. Confirm your Battle.net account and active WoW subscription or Game Time. If you have an Epic Pack or Collection, check when its included 30 days begin. The free Stress Test has separate access rules.
  2. Ask your friends which region, ruleset and faction they chose. Cross-ruleset grouping and cross-faction parties are not supported. On the PvP ruleset, your characters are restricted to one faction.
  3. Choose a class for the content you will actually play. A Hunter may make a comfortable solo first character; a Druid can cover several group roles. Current Level-30 beta rankings cannot settle every level-60 raid matchup.
  4. Decide whether you want Skyborne. The race and its Zephras Isle introduction are upgrade benefits, not a baseline reward from the regular subscription. Check the class/faction pairing before purchasing.
  5. Write down two or three full character names. Forever uses a first name and second name whose combination must be unique in the region. Eligible early reservation covers up to three characters, not guaranteed names.
  6. Choose a practical two-profession plan. Think about early repairs, trainer costs and your materials supply before committing to two expensive crafting professions on an empty economy.
  7. Prepare the client and first-night route. Update Battle.net and graphics drivers, agree on a meeting place, check your first quests, and leave time for queues and unexpected maintenance.

The shortcut: decide your social setup and access first, then optimize the character. A perfect class build will not help if your dungeon group chose a different ruleset, and a prepared crafting plan cannot fix a missing subscription on launch night.

Choose Your Launch Path Before Spending Time or Money

Not everyone should rush to level 60. Choose the outcome you want, then invest in only the preparation it requires.

Your GoalPrepare Before November 4Main Thing to Avoid
Explore a new Azeroth at your own pacePick a starting class, region, first 1-20 quest path and a gathering or crafting pairing.Buying upgrades for content you actually want to experience yourself.
Reach 60 before the December raidsFind a consistent group, plan practical play sessions, select travel routes and decide how much leveling you want to do yourself.Assuming a beta-only dungeon XP rate, instant boosting delivery or a guaranteed raid-ready gear set.
Start with friends in PvP or RPAgree on ruleset and faction, test the new names, and coordinate preferred online language.Splitting the group across rulesets or creating opposite-faction characters on the PvP ruleset.
Focus on professions and early goldChoose your gathering/crafting pairing and identify the materials your recipes consume.Treating pre-launch price guesses as a live auction-house economy.

If the leveling grind is the part you want to skip, compare the exact contents of a launch-service pre-order against simply playing through the new 1-60 campaign. A packaged level-60 character service is not a Blizzard game edition, does not provide a game license, and starts only when the post-launch order is arranged. Piloted orders involve sharing account access, which can carry penalties under Blizzard’s rules; check the delivery method and conditions before purchasing.

Do You Need to Buy WoW Forever? Subscription vs Editions

For the standard game, no extra expansion purchase is required. An active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time provides access at launch. Optional Battle.net packs add specific benefits; they are not alternative subscriptions.

Access OptionWhat It Gives YouWhat It Does Not Mean
WoW subscription / Game TimeAccess to the standard Forever game when it launches. Not an automatic Skyborne unlock, beta invitation or early name reservation.
Skyborne Heroic PackSkyborne race and Zephras Isle experience, early name reservation, named cosmetics and one Invite-A-Friend code.It does not include beta access or automatically grant the riding skill for the included mount.
Skyborne Epic PackHeroic benefits plus beta access, 30 days of Game Time at launch, additional cosmetics and three Invite-A-Friend codes total. The included Game Time is added from launch, not an unlimited subscription.
Warcraft Forever CollectionEpic benefits plus Warcraft III: Reforged, Forsaken Kingdom and additional decor. Blizzard lists availability through January 11, 2027.Buying the bundle does not pre-complete Forever quests, levels or raids.

The official edition comparison is the best place to check the current benefits. A separate LepreStore leveling service is a different purchase from a Blizzard game entitlement. Do not confuse either with Invite-A-Friend codes: those codes are for qualifying recipients during launch week and do not provide beta access.

Pick Your Ruleset and Faction Before You Pick a ‘Server’

Forever has a realmless ruleset structure, so the first social question is not which old-style server is most popular. It is which ruleset your friends and guild will use. Characters on different rulesets cannot form normal dungeon or raid parties with one another. Horde and Alliance cannot group together either.

RulesetBest FitImportant Restriction
NormalQuesting, PvE groups and choosing when to engage in PvP.Groups remain inside the ruleset and faction.
PvPWorld-PvP danger in contested territory.Only one faction can be created per account on this ruleset; balancing restrictions can affect new character creation.
RoleplayingPlayers building character stories and RP communities. No cross-ruleset dungeon or raid groups.
HardcorePlayers seeking permanent-death stakes. Not available at initial launch; Blizzard plans it later.

Race and faction can also change your class options. For example, Blizzard lists Horde Skyborne Windshapers as eligible Shamans and Alliance-aligned High-Order Skyborne as eligible Mages. Other new pairings include Orc Mages, Undead Paladins and Dwarf Shamans. Check the official race/class matrix rather than copying a 2019 Classic chart.

Blizzard does allow some battleground mixing between non-Hardcore rulesets, but that is not permission to join a friend’s dungeon group from another ruleset. Changing your everyday ruleset means starting another character there; collections and Legacy Points have account-wide rules, with Hardcore separated in one direction. You can also set Preferred Online Language in Options > Languages and Social. That preference has a 24-hour change cooldown, so coordinate it with your group before launch.

Read Blizzard’s ruleset overview before making your first PvP-faction character. The social setup is harder to correct than a weak starting weapon.

Early Name Reservation: Prepare Two Names, Not Just One

Forever uses a two-part name. The full first-name/second-name combination is unique within your region, so someone else can share your first name without blocking every version of it. Both parts still have to meet Blizzard’s naming rules. The second name can be hidden from world nameplates in settings, but remains part of the character’s identity and appears in chat.

  1. Before October 27: Write down three full-name combinations and a few backups. Coordinate a shared surname with your guild if that matters to you.
  2. October 27-November 3: If your account has an eligible upgrade, create and customize up to three reservation characters during Blizzard’s stated window.
  3. Confirm region and ruleset: A desirable name does not repair a mismatch with your actual group’s ruleset or faction.
  4. Recheck the final name: Names are first-come, first-served and filtered against the naming policy; your preferred combination is never guaranteed.

Blizzard’s two-name explanation confirms that this is a region-wide identity system. Do not treat an October 19 Stress Test name as a reservation: Blizzard specifically says those test-server names and characters will be removed.

What to Do in the October 19 Stress Test and Final Beta Days

The Stress Test is useful because it is open without a subscription, Game Time, an invite or beta access. It is a chance to find input or performance problems while there is still time to fix them. Its temporary test characters, names and guilds will be wiped. The regular beta’s last full day is October 21; do not rely on its character progress as your live leveling plan.

  • Install the correct test version. In Battle.net, open World of Warcraft and choose the World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test under In Development during the event. Let the client download before the starting window when possible.
  • Try the first few fights. Check camera, keybinds, loot windows, attack reach, mana or resource downtime and whether your class feels good outside training dummies.
  • Test group usability. Confirm that your party members chose compatible region/ruleset/faction plans. Ask whether anyone wants to heal or tank the first dungeon rather than assigning everyone damage at the last minute.
  • Try graphics and controls. Forever offers modern and Classic visual presets and gamepad support. Use the performance level and interface settings that make crowded fights legible.
  • Save notes, not assumptions. Record useful starting quests or route landmarks, but final levels, XP rates and class tuning can still change at launch.

If an official preload schedule is still unannounced when you read this, do not treat a community estimate as confirmed. Update the Battle.net app, check your available disk space, and follow Blizzard’s current installer instructions. Never assume an email containing a download link is genuine: confirm any invitation or license through your own Battle.net account.

Launch Night: Your First 60 Minutes

The best first hour is usually boring in one respect: all your decisions are already made. You should be playing, not arguing in Discord about factions or trying to decide which class to roll.

  1. Before the login window: Confirm your subscription/Game Time, game version, graphics drivers, region, preferred language and group meeting plan.
  2. Create or enter your selected character: Use your planned race, class, ruleset and name. If you are Skyborne, check that your account has the upgrade entitlement.
  3. Collect only useful early quests: Focus on tightly grouped objectives and move through a complete hub before running across the map for one isolated reward.
  4. Train abilities and manage bags: Save enough starting currency for spell training and repairs. Do not fill every slot with vendor-gray items when a nearby vendor is available.
  5. Coordinate first dungeon plans: Learn the entrance, suggested level and missing roles first. No summons or convenient travel assumptions should replace checking the actual route.
  6. Choose a realistic stopping point: An inn, city or safe quest hub is more useful than leaving your character in a dangerous field when you need to log off.

The WoW Forever Leveling Guide 1-60 owns the detailed zone routing, XP choices and faction paths. This checklist is about entering the game ready to use that route, not replacing a 60-level walkthrough.

What to Prioritize During Your First Week

Once launch-night access is settled, decide which systems help your character and which are long-term collection projects. Forever has more than 1,000 new quests, nine new dungeons, the Legacy System, Camping and expanded professions; trying to finish everything on one character in seven days is not a useful plan.

Choose Two Professions for a Real Purpose

Think in terms of where your early materials come from. Mining pairs naturally with Engineering or Blacksmithing, Herbalism with Alchemy, and Skinning with Leatherworking. Double gathering can help a low-gold starting character, while two crafting professions can require more purchased materials. Profession-specific bonuses and Camping objects also matter; the highest goldmaking rank is not automatically the best combat choice.

Use our Profession Tier List to compare PvE, PvP and goldmaking jobs. If you choose Engineering, the Engineering 1-300 route covers materials and trainers. Buying a material kit does not automatically teach special recipes or professional ranks.

Use Legacy and Camping Without Over-Grinding

Legacy Points come from defined one-time challenges and are earned across your account; the initial system offers 65 possible points, while each character can allocate only up to 16 points into perks. Unlocking a useful early perk is a different project from chasing every cosmetic reward. For the precise challenge tiers and rewards, read our Legacy System Guide.

Camping can supply profession-linked buffs and services through player-placed campfires. Do not confuse a normal fire with Rested XP generation: a specific Leatherworking Camp Tent supplies that top-up under beta rules. Our Camping Guide explains what the camp objects actually do. The Cozy Sleeping Bag is a separate quest reward and XP-buff source, not the same system.

Run Dungeons for Clear Reasons

Forever’s nine new dungeons join the familiar instances. Choose a run for its quests, relevant equipment, group experience or an unfinished dungeon Legacy Challenge. A repeated clear does not magically guarantee a named item. The WoW Forever Dungeons Guide has the current instance list and access guidance.

Blizzard’s October beta tuning changed dungeon monster XP, so avoid treating September dungeon-spam advice as permanent. Measure travel and group time alongside XP. If your goal is raiding, reserve time to reach 60, learn your role and gather equipment rather than chasing every side achievement before December 9.

What Should You Prepare for the December 9 Raids?

November 4 is the world launch; December 9 is the first raid-unlock date. Blizzard has named Barrow Deeps (a maximum-level 10-player raid) and Hyjal Summit (20-player), with Onyxia’s Lair also part of the first wave of raid plans. Do not budget launch night around entering a raid that is not open yet.

A sensible first-month plan is to reach an appropriate level, establish a regular group, confirm your role and gather dungeon/quest equipment while watching final class adjustments. Level-30 beta damage rankings and assumed Classic BiS lists are not proof of a finished level-60 raid meta. Resist buying or farming a supposed guaranteed final item until its source and phase are verified.

For collectors and casual players, the same roadmap means there is no need to turn the first weekend into an exhausting race. Professions, quests, alts, Legacy points, new dungeons and exploration are all designed to support a longer progression journey.

Seven Launch Mistakes That Are Easy to Avoid

  • Buying an upgrade to unlock the standard game. A WoW subscription or Game Time already covers normal access; editions add defined extras.
  • Choosing a PvP faction before talking to friends. The PvP ruleset limits an account to one faction there.
  • Assuming Classic servers determine your group. Forever uses rulesets, and normal cross-ruleset dungeon/raid grouping is unavailable.
  • Expecting a Stress Test name to survive. Stress Test names, guilds and characters are explicitly wiped.
  • Using a paid launch code for beta access. Invite-A-Friend codes are for the stated launch-week window, not the September-October beta.
  • Spending all early gold on optional crafting. Spell training, travel, riding preparation and repairs compete with materials in a fresh economy.
  • Assuming Hardcore or raids are live on day one. Hardcore arrives after launch and the first raid release is scheduled for December 9.

WoW Forever Launch Checklist FAQ

When does World of Warcraft: Forever release?

Blizzard lists November 4, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. PST as the global launch moment. In some regions that falls on November 5 by local calendar.

Can I play WoW Forever without buying an upgrade pack?

Yes. Access to the standard game is included with an active World of Warcraft subscription or Game Time. Optional Skyborne packs provide specified race, beta, reservation or cosmetic benefits.

Can I try WoW Forever before launch without beta access?

Yes. Blizzard’s October 19 Stress Test is open to interested players without a subscription, Game Time or beta invitation. The test has its own schedule and all Stress Test characters are wiped afterward.

How many characters can I reserve before launch?

Up to three during the October 27-November 3 early reservation window, provided your account has an eligible upgrade. Your preferred two-part name is not guaranteed.

Can I play with a friend on another ruleset or faction?

Not for ordinary dungeon, raid or quest groups. You need the same ruleset and faction. Some non-Hardcore battleground mixing is an exception, not general cross-ruleset grouping.

Does beta progress or a reserved name give me a level-30 character at launch?

No such live-level shortcut is promised by Blizzard’s reservation rules. The reservation window is for character names and customization; Blizzard explicitly says Stress Test characters will be wiped. Plan to begin live leveling from your launch character.

Should I pick a profession or class just because it is S tier at Level 30?

No. Beta strength is a snapshot. Pick a role and playstyle you want to spend time with, then use current class and profession comparisons to understand tradeoffs rather than assuming final raid performance.

Can I raid on November 4?

The first raids are scheduled to unlock on December 9, 2026, not on the game’s launch day. Use the intervening weeks to level, group, gear and prepare.
