WoW Forever has transmogrification, but you do not have to use it. Alliance players can visit Fyrenz Vishonar in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter (48.0, 84.5), while Horde players can find Mon’ye in Orgrimmar’s Cleft of Shadow (46.2, 53.5). Talk to the transmogrifier to change your equipment’s appearance or choose the option to switch the feature off. A third NPC, Spellweaver Thaldris, was documented in the new Dalaran area during beta, but Stormwind and Orgrimmar are the most reliable faction starting points.
Transmog changes how your equipment looks, not its armor, stats, talents or set bonuses. You can collect appearances while the display feature is off. Unlike modern Retail, Forever retains armor-type restrictions and prevents low-level characters from using looks they are not yet eligible for. Blizzard’s official Deep Dive also confirms different collection rules for dungeon blues and raid epics.
Release context: this guide reflects Blizzard’s published rules and documented September–October 2026 beta behavior. Beta testing has ended; the level-60 launch is scheduled for November 4, 2026. NPC positions, beta pricing and interface details should be checked against the release client rather than assumed permanent.
Where to Transmog in WoW Forever
The two capital vendors are the easiest places to start. The additional Dalaran option is an Alliance-side alternative, not a guaranteed safe destination for Horde travelers.
| Faction | Transmogrifier | Where to find them | Map coordinates |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alliance | Fyrenz Vishonar | Stormwind, Mage Quarter; on the ground behind the mage tower | 48.0, 84.5 (Stormwind) |
| Horde | Mon’ye | Orgrimmar, Cleft of Shadow; upper level beside the barber shop | 46.2, 53.5 (Orgrimmar) |
| Alliance, alternate | Spellweaver Thaldris | Dalaran in the Alterac Mountains, Talismanic Textiles shop; beta-documented location | 17.8, 60.5 (Alterac Mountains) |
Stormwind tip: do not search the Trade District or look for the modern Retail ethereal transmog vendor. Walk into the Mage Quarter and go behind the tower on the ground floor. Orgrimmar tip: Mon’ye is near the barber shop in the Cleft, not on the open main plaza. Dalaran tip: the city and its five-player City of Dalaran dungeon are not the same as a simple vendor visit; Horde characters were attacked on sight there in late beta. Go to Orgrimmar instead.
Choose Your Appearance Goal Before Farming
| Your goal | Best first action | Important limit |
|---|---|---|
| Wear a look you already collected | Visit your faction NPC, choose a slot and save an outfit | Armor type, class and level rules still apply |
| Collect green or blue BoP dungeon looks | Run the relevant dungeon with an eligible group | Eligible group members learn the look when the item is looted; drops are not guaranteed |
| Collect a raid Epic or high-rank PvP look | Check the real gear source, raid loot award or PvP rank requirement | Epic raid items do not use the whole-party blue-item collection rule |
| Keep the original Classic appearance | Use the opt-out option at a transmogrifier | Your appearance collection continues in the background |
If you want to build a collection through group content, you can farm appearances yourself; getting a group is a separate decision. Some appearances require winning the actual item, and even repeated dungeon clears do not promise a particular drop.
Choose Your Next Appearance Source
You can collect and equip appearances yourself using the rules above. If your target look comes from group content, pick the actual activity—not an imaginary instant transmog unlock.
How to Apply a Transmog: Step by Step
- Check your collection. Open the Collections window (normally Shift+P) and look under Appearances. Confirm the look is actually unlocked on your account.
- Travel to a transmogrifier. Use the Stormwind or Orgrimmar NPC above. Dalaran is an alternative only when you can access it.
- Open the appearance editor. Choose the dialogue option to change the appearance of your equipment; switch the feature on first if your preset currently hides transmog.
- Pick an outfit and slot. Choose the head, chest, shoulders, weapon or another occupied gear slot. Pick an eligible collected look, or use the hide option on a slot you do not want to display.
- Review the warning markers and cost. If the slot refuses an appearance, check armor category, class eligibility, level and weapon type before spending gold.
- Save your changes. The saved outfit applies the chosen visuals to the slot. Your actual equipment still supplies every stat and combat bonus.
Forever’s beta interface works by equipment slot, not by permanently modifying one item in your bags. If you replace your chest armor with another compatible chest piece while leveling, a saved chest look can still be used. If you change the armor category, the chosen look may no longer fit; the outfit can keep separate looks for different armor categories.
How to Turn Transmog On or Off
Blizzard made appearance visibility optional to preserve a Classic-style experience. If you selected the Classic Mode preset when first entering Forever, the transmog display starts disabled. To change that choice, speak to a transmogrifier and use the relevant enable/disable dialogue. You do not need to reroll your character or delete an outfit.
| When transmog is disabled | What happens |
|---|---|
| Looking at other characters | You see their actual equipped gear rather than optional appearance overrides |
| Looting eligible appearance items | Your collection continues to unlock them as usual |
| Other players hiding a helm or cloak | Those hidden-slot settings remain visible, in line with the original game’s display behavior |
| Configuring your own saved outfit | Blizzard describes self-customization as remaining possible, although some beta-client prompts suggested limitations while opted out; enable transmog temporarily if the editor prevents a change |
There is no advantage to turning the feature on purely for collecting: you earn eligible looks in either mode. Choose the visual experience you prefer. For the separate graphics, classic-model and gamepad settings, use our WoW Forever Best Settings guide.
How Appearances Unlock: Dungeon, Quest, BoE and Raid Rules
Forever is unusually friendly to dungeon collectors but deliberately stricter with prestigious raid drops. Blizzard’s announcement is the baseline for the dungeon and raid differences below. The quest-reward and bind-on-equip details come from beta-client documentation rather than a blanket official promise for every item.
| Gear source | When the look unlocks | Practical implication |
|---|---|---|
| Poor (gray) and Common (white) loot | When looted; no binding required | Collect an interesting ordinary item without equipping it first |
| Uncommon (green) and Rare (blue) Bind on Pickup dungeon drops | When looted by the group; every eligible looter receives the look | Do not roll Need solely for an appearance you already get |
| Epic raid drops | For the player who receives and binds the item | Winning the item still matters; agree loot expectations with the raid |
| Bind on Equip items | Normally after binding; beta records also describe vendor-selling an uncollected appearance as binding the item and unlocking its look | Never sell a valuable BoE casually. Check the confirmation and resale trade-off |
| Quest reward choices | Beta interface documentation reports all eligible offered appearances on quest completion | Pick the reward with the best stats, then verify the appearances in Collections |
Why Dungeon and Raid Loot Have Different Rules
For Uncommon or Rare Bind on Pickup dungeon items, eligible teammates learn the appearance when the drop is looted. This reduces pressure to roll Need against a player who actually wants to equip the item. It does not mean your whole party automatically learns every rare item that never drops, nor does it extend to every Epic. Check the exact item and eligibility.
With epic raid items, the appearance goes only to the recipient when the item binds. A guild’s loot rules should therefore cover cosmetic ambitions as well as upgrades. At launch, raid collections remain a later progression goal: Blizzard’s schedule opens the first raid content on December 9, 2026, not November 4.
Can You Learn an Appearance Without Wearing the Item?
Yes in some cases. Gray and white items unlock on loot. Dungeon green/blue BoP looks can unlock for eligible teammates who never equip the drop. In the beta, the account collection also supported acquiring certain Bind on Equip looks by selling the item to a vendor, which binds it as part of that action. This is not a free way to preserve an item for resale; compare its auction value first. Avoid treating that beta interaction as mandatory until you can check it on the release client.
You can plan runs with our Forever Dungeons Guide, which covers levels, entrances, access and expected loot. The collection rule explains who learns a look; the dungeon guide explains where the gear comes from.
WoW Forever Transmog Restrictions: Armor, Weapons and Level 60
A look can exist in your account collection and still be unusable by the character standing at the transmogrifier. Test compatibility in this order:
| Rule | Allowed | Not allowed or limited |
|---|---|---|
| Armor type | Cloth on cloth; leather on leather; mail on mail; plate on plate | A cloth robe’s look does not turn a plate chest into cloth; appearance follows the equipped item’s category |
| Armor slot | Collected chest appearance on a matching chest slot | A shoulder look on a helm slot |
| Weapons | Compatible one-handed weapons and permitted two-handed weapon looks as documented in beta | Assume neither a free one-handed-to-two-handed conversion nor permission to display weapon types your class cannot use |
| Level | Looks your character is eligible to display while leveling | High-level appearances remain unavailable to low-level characters; at level 60 the level restriction is removed for otherwise valid collected looks |
| Class-specific sets | Looks your class is eligible to wear | Another class’s exclusive class-set appearance |
| Cosmetic-only exceptions | Rare items explicitly designated cosmetic-only can bypass the standard armor-type rule | A normal armor piece does not become category-free because it looks decorative |
Example: if a Paladin actually equips a cloth robe, the chest slot uses cloth appearance rules despite the character’s ability to wear plate. Collecting an Epic raid appearance does not bypass class or level restrictions. Nor does transmog convert that robe into plate armor for mitigation, or transfer a weapon’s damage, enchantment or set effect to another item.
Special appearance warning for Druids: the secret serpent-shaped Cat Form comes from equipping the full Embrace of the Viper set; the current Druid Forms guide does not confirm any permanent Snake Form unlock from the transmogrifier. Do not confuse a character’s equipment appearance collection with a functional shapeshift skin.
Outfits, Costs and Situations: Save Looks Without Extra Grinding
Instead of changing individual equipped items every time you loot an upgrade, Forever uses saved Outfits. Each outfit stores a set of appearances. You start with two free outfit slots; additional slots can be purchased at a transmogrifier and were account-wide in the beta. Applying changed appearances can cost a small amount of in-game currency, but switching between outfits you already saved is reported to be free.
For budgeting, the beta charged 10 silver each for outfit slots three and four, then 20 silver for slot five, 35 silver for slot six and 50 silver for slot seven. These are not guaranteed November 4 prices; check the cost shown in the actual vendor UI before buying extra slots. Two outfits are enough for most players to begin: one regular adventuring look and one alternate town or battleground look.
What Are Transmog Situations?
Situations are beta-documented conditions that apply a saved outfit automatically. Examples include a Location such as a dungeon or rest area, Movement such as swimming or riding, certain Weather conditions, and the Time of Day. Open the Situations tab in the editor, pick your triggering conditions and associate them with the appropriate outfit.
Start with one simple trigger, for example a dry-weather travel outfit and a separate swimming look. Test it once outside the city before layering additional conditions. Situations control visual presentation only; they do not swap your stats, weapon properties or talent build. Because the feature was seen in beta, confirm its behavior after any launch UI update before relying on a specific automatic swap.
Five WoW Forever Cosmetic Helm Looks Worth Collecting
The following new cosmetic-only head appearances are listed in the Forever item database. Unlike ordinary armor, these items are designed as cosmetic headwear. Each currently has a Revered reputation requirement with a corresponding Steamwheedle settlement. This is not the separate Azeroth Commerce Authority or Durotar Supply and Logistics reputation system.
| Cosmetic appearance | Settlement / area | Requirement in beta data |
|---|---|---|
| Barrens Headband | Ratchet, The Barrens | Ratchet Revered |
| Tough Guy’s Eyepatch | Booty Bay, Stranglethorn Vale | Booty Bay Revered |
| Stolen Wastewander Cowl | Gadgetzan, Tanaris | Gadgetzan Revered |
| Fizzbolt’s Fashionable Fedora | Everlook, Winterspring | Everlook Revered |
| Haughty Fellow’s Monocle | Powderfuse, Riverglades | Powderfuse Revered |
Collection route: start with the town where your character already has reputation, verify its vendor, then work on the next town only if the appearance fits your goal. For the new Powderfuse settlement and access routes, our Riverglades Guide covers the zone. The reputation requirement does not by itself confirm a fixed vendor gold price or an automatic purchase when you hit Revered.
The Practical Appearance-Farming Plan
- At low levels: collect common visuals from quests, loot and tradeable gray/white items without paying to update your outfit after every replacement. Keep your actual stat upgrades first.
- While running dungeons: coordinate with your group and use the shared Uncommon/Rare BoP appearance rule. When you care about a specific drop, check the loot source in the dungeon guide rather than assuming one clear will produce it.
- For gold-efficient looks: save one versatile outfit, use inexpensive appearance sources and avoid buying extra slots before you need them. Cosmetics from reputation vendors make sense only once their unlock is practical.
- For PvP armor: obtain the actual set and rank eligibility first. Appearance collection does not substitute for PvP Rank Points, Honor or gear purchases.
- At level 60: revisit high-level looks previously blocked by level requirements, while respecting armor and class rules. When raids open, agree whether collecting a raid Epic for its look is appropriate within your guild’s loot priorities.
If you need a structured way to see how armor looks together, save two distinct test outfits before committing to more slots. Avoid spending money chasing a screenshot of an appearance that was never confirmed for Forever’s launch database.
Why Is My Transmog Not Showing?
| Problem | Check this first |
|---|---|
| I collected a look but cannot select it | Verify the exact appearance in Collections, then check slot, armor type, class and level |
| My chest appearance vanished after a new item | Did you switch from cloth to leather or another armor type? Open the saved outfit for that category |
| I do not see other players’ appearances | Check whether Classic Mode or the transmogrifier opt-out is active; this does not erase your collection |
| The appearance editor will not save | Read the client warning, verify a compatible equipped item and temporarily enable transmog if the beta opt-out UI blocks editing |
| I did not get the raid Epic appearance | It unlocks for the player who receives and binds the Epic, not for everyone in the raid |
| I cannot find a vendor in Undercity | No confirmed Undercity NPC in the late beta list; use Mon’ye in Orgrimmar instead |
WoW Forever Transmog FAQ
Does WoW Forever have transmog?
Yes. It changes your gear’s visuals without changing stats or set bonuses. The feature is optional, and Classic Mode starts with its display turned off.
Where is the Alliance transmogrifier?
Fyrenz Vishonar is in Stormwind’s Mage Quarter, behind the mage tower at approximately 48.0, 84.5. Spellweaver Thaldris is an additional beta-documented Alliance-side NPC in the Dalaran area of Alterac Mountains.
Where is the Horde transmogrifier?
Mon’ye stands in the Cleft of Shadow in Orgrimmar at about 46.2, 53.5, next to the barber shop. Do not rely on early rumors of an Undercity transmogrifier.
Does everyone in a dungeon get the appearance of a blue drop?
For eligible players, yes: Blizzard says Uncommon and Rare Bind on Pickup dungeon drops teach their appearance to every eligible looter when looted. Epic raid gear follows a different rule and belongs to the actual recipient.
Can I use a level-60 item’s appearance while leveling?
Not before meeting the applicable appearance level restriction. At level 60, Blizzard says level limits on otherwise valid collected appearances are lifted. Armor, slot and class rules remain.
Do collected appearances carry over to my other characters?
The beta uses an account-wide collection. Your other characters may access collected looks when their class, armor type and level qualify. A collected appearance does not grant the physical item or its combat power.
Do I lose appearances if I turn transmog off?
No. Appearance collection continues even when transmog visibility is disabled. You can change the setting again at a transmogrifier.
Does transmog permanently unlock Druid Snake Form?
No permanent transmog unlock has been verified for the special Cat Form serpent look. The documented method is equipping the full five-piece Embrace of the Viper set; see the dedicated Druid Forms Guide for that condition.
