The best Mythic+ tank in WoW Midnight Season 2 is Blood Death Knight. In live Patch 12.1, Blood DK remains the only S-tier tank in the current Wowhead ranking. Vengeance Demon Hunter, Guardian Druid, Brewmaster Monk, and Protection Paladin are in A tier. Protection Warrior is in B tier.

The ranking has changed inside A tier since the start of the season. Wowhead’s September 1 update places Vengeance Demon Hunter second, Guardian Druid third, Brewmaster Monk fourth, and Protection Paladin fifth. Live Warcraft Logs-based data on Archon also shows that the gap between the six tanks is much smaller than the tier letters may suggest. Every tank is already represented in high keys.

Current data: Patch 12.1, WoW Midnight Season 2, live Mythic+ data reviewed September 4, 2026.

WoW Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Tank Tier List

Rank Tier Tank Spec Current Mythic+ Position
1 S Blood Death Knight The current top tank for push keys. Blood combines strong damage, self-healing, double Death Grip, Anti-Magic Zone, and a combat resurrection.
2 A Vengeance Demon Hunter High tank damage, excellent mobility, Chaos Brand, and a strong control kit. Defensive buffs on August 25 and September 1 fixed part of its early Season 2 weakness.
3 A Guardian Druid Durable and forgiving, with Mark of the Wild, Soothe, Remove Corruption, Stampeding Roar, and useful control for dungeon routes.
4 A Brewmaster Monk Strong Stagger-based survival with Mystic Touch, Ring of Peace, and Leg Sweep. Its damage and Celestial Brew absorbs were buffed on August 25.
5 A Protection Paladin One of the best tanks for pug utility. It has frequent interrupts, Blessings, dispels, a combat resurrection, and received another dungeon damage buff on September 1.
6 B Protection Warrior Still last in the current Wowhead ranking, but far from weak. Protection Warrior has reached high live keys and received another magic-damage defensive buff on August 25.

The tier letters describe value at the top of Mythic+, not whether a tank can complete the content. All six specs are represented in high keys. For weekly Great Vault runs, Keystone Master, and timed +10 portals, player skill and route knowledge matter more than the difference between adjacent tiers.

Live Mythic+ Tank Data for September 2026

The first weeks of Season 2 now provide enough live data to compare the preseason ranking with actual keys. Archon’s Warcraft Logs-based Mythic+ page was showing almost three million parses across keys +7 and above when this article was reviewed on September 4.

The highest key shown for a Hero Spec should not be treated as a tier list by itself. Representation, player skill, dungeon selection, group composition, and the number of logs all affect the result. It is still useful for checking whether a spec described as weaker on paper is actually reaching the top end.

Tank / Main Hero Spec High-Key Signal What the Live Data Tells Us
Blood DK / San’layn +20 Blood is performing at the top of the live ladder and remains the safest S-tier placement.
Guardian Druid / Elune’s Chosen +20 Guardian is already clearing the same key band as the leading tanks despite sitting below Vengeance in Wowhead’s ordered list.
Brewmaster / Master of Harmony +20 Brewmaster’s A-tier placement is supported by real high-key results after its August defensive and damage buffs.
Protection Paladin / Lightsmith +19 Protection Paladin remains competitive at the high end and has gained damage since those runs began accumulating.
Protection Warrior / Mountain Thane +19 The B-tier label does not mean Warrior is locked out of high keys. Experienced Warriors are already pushing close to the front of the ladder.
Vengeance DH / Annihilator +18 Vengeance has a smaller high-key sample at this snapshot, but its September 1 defensive buffs are newer than much of the data in the rolling window.

This is why the main tier list follows the current expert ranking rather than sorting tanks by one live statistic. Wowhead evaluates damage, survivability, utility, and push-key value. Archon shows what players are actually doing in logged Mythic+ runs.

What Changed for Mythic+ Tanks in Patch 12.1?

Patch 12.1 increased max-level player health and creature damage by 25%. Tank healing and absorbs were adjusted around the larger health pools, which changed how several specs handle damage spikes compared with Season 1.

Blood Death Knight received the biggest set of tank changes before Season 2. Melee damage increased by 20%, Heart Strike by 25%, and Marrowrend by 50%. Dancing Rune Weapon gained 30% Parry, while several healing, absorb, and damage-reduction talents improved. The August 18 launch tuning reduced two San’layn damage bonuses: Visceral Strength dropped from 10% Strength to 6%, and Transfusion’s Dancing Rune Weapon bonus dropped from 10% to 5%.

Those nerfs did not remove Blood from S tier. Wowhead’s September 1 ranking still has it first, and live high-key data continues to support that position.

Vengeance Demon Hunter has changed more since the season opened. On August 25, Mastery: Fel Blood effectiveness increased by 24%. Blizzard followed with another defensive buff on September 1 because Vengeance was still performing below expectations defensively. Demonic Wards now reduces damage taken by 15% instead of 12%, and Void Reaver causes Frailty to reduce damage taken by 6% instead of 5%.

Brewmaster Monk received a 3% damage increase on August 25. Celestial Brew and Celestial Infusion also gained 20% more absorb value. These changes directly addressed one of Brewmaster’s early Season 2 defensive pain points.

Protection Warrior received another magic-defense improvement on August 25. Fight Through the Flames now reduces magic damage by 8%, up from 6%.

Protection Paladin received a dungeon-focused damage buff on September 1. Blaze of Glory damage increased by 150%, while Consecration and Divine Guidance damage increased by 30%. Blizzard specifically said the goal was to help Protection Paladin keep up with other tanks, especially in dungeons.

These hotfixes matter when reading rankings from the first week. A log recorded on August 19 does not represent the same Vengeance, Brewmaster, Protection Paladin, or Protection Warrior that is live in early September.

How We Rank the Best Mythic+ Tanks

This list is aimed at players pushing keys rather than choosing a tank for a normal weekly run. The main tier placement follows Wowhead’s current September 1 ranking. Live Archon data is used to check whether actual high-key results support or contradict the expected order.

Ranking Factor What It Means in Midnight Season 2
Survivability A tank needs enough effective health, mitigation, and recovery to survive high-key trash and boss tank-busters without taking every healer cooldown.
Tank Damage Once every tank can survive a pull, extra damage saves time and becomes increasingly valuable for pushing the key ceiling.
Control Grips, silences, interrupts, stuns, knockbacks, and other stops can change which pulls a group can safely combine.
Party Utility Combat resurrection, dispels, external defensives, and class buffs can cover tools that would otherwise require another party slot.
Dungeon Fit The current eight-dungeon pool changes the value of magic mitigation, physical mitigation, mobility, ranged-enemy control, and dispels.
Live Results High-key logs help confirm whether theoretical strengths are translating into actual timed runs after live tuning.

S-Tier Mythic+ Tank for Midnight Season 2

Blood Death Knight

Blood Death Knight remains the best Mythic+ tank in Patch 12.1. It is still the only S-tier tank in Wowhead’s September 1 update, and San’layn Blood DK is already represented at the top of the live key range tracked by Archon.

Blood controls its own recovery through Death Strike. That matters more as key levels rise because the healer can spend more attention on the rest of the party. Dancing Rune Weapon covers planned danger, while the Patch 12.1 defensive changes made the spec less fragile outside its strongest cooldown windows.

Death Grip is another major reason Blood fits the current dungeon pool. A ranged caster can be moved directly into the pull instead of forcing the party to chase it. Gorefiend’s Grasp can rebuild an entire pack around one target. Better grouping improves cleave damage and makes interrupts and stops easier to coordinate.

Anti-Magic Zone adds group defense against magic damage, and Raise Ally provides a combat resurrection.

Blood still punishes bad resource management. Spending Runic Power before a dangerous hit can leave the player without the Death Strike needed to recover. Its mobility is also weaker than Vengeance.

Best for: high-key pushing, caster grouping, self-recovery, and groups that need a combat resurrection.

Main weakness: Poor Death Strike timing is dangerous, and movement-heavy routes expose Blood’s limited mobility.

Live update: Blood remains S tier in the September 1 Wowhead ranking and has not received another direct tank nerf since the August 18 San’layn adjustment.

A-Tier Mythic+ Tanks for Midnight Season 2

The four A-tier tanks are close enough that party composition and player experience can change which one is better for a specific group. Vengeance currently has the highest position in Wowhead’s ordered list. Guardian and Brewmaster already have strong high-key representation, while Protection Paladin remains one of the most useful tanks in uncoordinated groups.

Vengeance Demon Hunter

Vengeance Demon Hunter is second in Wowhead’s September 1 ranking. Its personal damage and Chaos Brand give it strong offensive value, while Infernal Strike gives it the best movement package among the six tanks.

The control kit is built for Mythic+. Sigil of Silence handles caster packs, Sigil of Chains groups enemies, Sigil of Misery gives another area stop, and Chaos Nova provides a stun. Chaos Brand increases magic damage taken by enemies, making Vengeance especially useful in magic-heavy compositions.

Defense was the main problem at Season 2 launch. Blizzard has now buffed it twice. Mastery: Fel Blood was improved on August 25, then Demonic Wards and Void Reaver were buffed on September 1. Those changes directly target the defensive consistency that kept Vengeance out of S tier.

The latest Archon window still contains runs from before the September 1 changes, so its current high-key representation should be read with that timing in mind.

Best for: movement-heavy routes, magic-damage parties, caster control, and players who actively use sigils.

Main weakness: Its defensive profile still depends more on active windows and correct play than the most forgiving tanks.

Guardian Druid

Guardian Druid is third in the current Wowhead ranking and remains one of the easiest tanks to recommend to someone learning Mythic+ routes.

Ironfur handles steady physical pressure, while Frenzied Regeneration gives clear recovery. Guardian is less demanding mechanically than Blood or Brewmaster, which leaves more attention for positioning, pulls, and enemy casts.

Its party utility is useful in almost every dungeon. Mark of the Wild gives 3% Versatility. Remove Corruption handles curses and poisons, Soothe removes Enrage effects, and Stampeding Roar gives the group a movement tool. Incapacitating Roar, Typhoon, and Ursol’s Vortex provide several ways to control trash.

The Season 2 Lunation change reduced access to Lunar Beam compared with Season 1, but the new tier set improves Incarnation: Guardian of Ursoc uptime and supports the current Mangle and Thrash build.

Guardian is already represented at +20 in the Archon snapshot reviewed for this update. That makes the spec’s A-tier position much easier to support with live data than it was during launch week.

Best for: learning tank routes, stable weekly keys, high-key players who want a forgiving defensive profile, and groups missing Mark of the Wild.

Main weakness: It does not match Blood’s control over ranged enemies or Vengeance’s mobility.

Brewmaster Monk

Brewmaster Monk is fourth in Wowhead’s September 1 ranking. Stagger remains its defining defensive mechanic, smoothing physical hits instead of taking the full spike at once.

The August 25 hotfix improved two areas that mattered in early Season 2. Brewmaster gained 3% damage, and Celestial Brew and Celestial Infusion absorbs increased by 20%.

Mystic Touch increases physical damage taken by enemies by 5%, which can make Brewmaster the preferred tank in a physical composition without another Monk. Ring of Peace is useful for route control, Leg Sweep gives an area stun, and Detox removes poison and disease effects.

Brewmaster is also showing strong live results. Master of Harmony was represented at +20 in the Archon data reviewed on September 4.

The tradeoff is complexity and healer involvement. Stagger makes incoming damage smoother, but Brewmaster still requires more maintenance than Guardian and does not have Blood’s direct Death Strike-style recovery.

Best for: physical-damage compositions, groups missing Mystic Touch, planned high-key play, and routes where Ring of Peace has strong value.

Main weakness: More defensive management and greater healer dependence than Blood DK.

Protection Paladin

Protection Paladin is fifth in Wowhead’s current ordered ranking, but its utility makes it one of the strongest practical tanks for Group Finder.

Avenger’s Shield can interrupt and silence several enemies. Rebuke gives another interrupt, Hammer of Justice gives a stun, and Divine Toll can shut down a dangerous caster pull quickly.

The support kit is even more important in pugs. Cleanse Toxins removes poison and disease effects. Blessing of Protection, Blessing of Spellwarding, Blessing of Sacrifice, and Lay on Hands can save another party member. Intercession provides a combat resurrection.

Protection Paladin also received another damage buff on September 1. Blaze of Glory damage increased by 150%, while Consecration and Divine Guidance increased by 30%. Blizzard said the change was aimed especially at dungeon performance.

Lightsmith Protection Paladin was already represented at +19 in Archon’s live snapshot before all of the newest tuning had accumulated into the rolling dataset.

Best for: pug keys, interrupt-heavy routes, groups that need external defensives, poison or disease removal, and combat resurrection coverage.

Main weakness: Defensive mistakes are still punished hard, and much of the spec’s value depends on using support abilities on other players instead of playing only for personal survival.

B-Tier Mythic+ Tank for Midnight Season 2

Protection Warrior

Protection Warrior remains sixth and B tier in Wowhead’s September 1 ranking. That placement should not be confused with being unable to push.

Shield Block and Ignore Pain are excellent against physical damage. Shield Wall and Last Stand cover planned danger, while Shockwave, Storm Bolt, and Intimidating Shout provide several stops for trash.

Battle Shout increases attack power and can make Warrior valuable in a physical party. Rallying Cry gives the group a defensive cooldown. Spell Reflection can completely change the value of the spec when an important dungeon ability can be reflected.

Warrior also received help for one of its weaker damage profiles. Fight Through the Flames now reduces magic damage taken by 8%, up from 6%.

The live results are stronger than the B-tier label may suggest. Mountain Thane Protection Warrior was represented at +19 in Archon’s September 4 snapshot. The problem is that other tanks usually bring a broader package across the entire dungeon pool.

Best for: physical-heavy routes, groups missing Battle Shout, and players who know the important Spell Reflection interactions.

Main weakness: Its strongest baseline mitigation still gets less value from DoTs, unblockable attacks, and sustained magic damage than it does from blockable physical hits.

Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Tank Comparison

Tank Tier Best Dungeon Tool Best Use Main Limit
Blood Death Knight S Death Grip / Gorefiend’s Grasp High-key pushing Mobility and execution
Vengeance Demon Hunter A Sigils / Chaos Brand Magic groups and movement Defensive consistency
Guardian Druid A Mark of the Wild / Soothe Stable all-round tanking Less unique mob grouping
Brewmaster Monk A Mystic Touch / Ring of Peace Physical groups Healer dependence
Protection Paladin A Avenger’s Shield / Blessings Pugs and caster control Defensive gaps
Protection Warrior B Battle Shout / Spell Reflection Physical-damage routes DoTs and magic pressure

What Is the Best Mythic+ Tank for Your Goal?

Goal Recommended Tank Reason
Highest key ceiling Blood Death Knight It remains the only S-tier tank and combines strong damage, self-recovery, grips, AMZ, and combat resurrection.
Pug and weekly keys Protection Paladin Its interrupts, Blessings, dispel, Lay on Hands, and combat resurrection can cover common Group Finder mistakes.
Learning to tank Guardian Druid Its defensive plan is easy to read and leaves more attention for routes and enemy mechanics.
Magic-damage party Vengeance Demon Hunter Chaos Brand buffs magic damage while sigils provide control for caster packs.
Physical-damage party Brewmaster Monk Mystic Touch increases physical damage taken when the group has no other Monk.
Blockable physical pressure Protection Warrior Shield Block and Ignore Pain are strongest when most dangerous incoming damage matches Warrior’s defensive profile.
Ranged-enemy grouping Blood Death Knight Death Grip and Gorefiend’s Grasp move targets that other tanks often need to interrupt or chase.

Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Dungeon Pool

Midnight Season 2 has eight Mythic+ dungeons. Five are Midnight dungeons, while three return from earlier expansions. Mythic+ Season 2 opened on August 18, 2026.

Altar of Fangs Midnight Reliable boss defensives and control for dangerous trash pulls.
Murder Row Midnight Interrupts, silences, and stops for caster-heavy pulls.
Den of Nalorakk Midnight Stable mitigation and short defensive cooldown cycles.
The Blinding Vale Midnight Mobility and flexible crowd control for changing pull positions.
Voidscar Arena Midnight Mobility, control, and defensive coverage when enemies cannot remain stacked.
Kings’ Rest Battle for Azeroth Caster grouping, interrupts, and coverage for mixed physical and magic damage.
Ruby Life Pools Dragonflight Magic defense, interrupts, movement, and control during dangerous trash pulls.

Best Mythic+ Tank for Pugs vs High Keys

Protection Paladin is the best practical pug tank for many groups. Its value comes from solving problems that are common in Group Finder. Avenger’s Shield can silence caster packs, Cleanse Toxins handles two dispel types, and Blessings can save another player after a mistake. Its September 1 damage buff also reduced one of the reasons to choose a more offensive tank instead.

Blood Death Knight remains the best current high-key recommendation. Its grips let coordinated groups build pulls around enemy placement, while Death Strike gives the tank direct control over recovery. AMZ and Raise Ally add two more tools that matter when a team is pushing close to its limit.

Guardian Druid is the safer middle ground. Vengeance becomes more attractive in a magic-heavy composition or a route that rewards mobility. Brewmaster gains value when the party needs Mystic Touch.

What Is the Easiest Tank in Midnight Season 2?

Guardian Druid is the easiest tank to start with in Midnight Season 2. Ironfur is straightforward, major cooldowns are easy to understand, and Frenzied Regeneration gives clear recovery after damage.

Protection Paladin is easy to start but harder to play well because the player should also watch party health, dispels, Blessings, and interrupts. Blood DK becomes extremely self-sufficient with experience, but poor Runic Power planning can cause sudden deaths.

Brewmaster has the highest maintenance burden for a new tank because Stagger, Purifying Brew, and its defensive resources need more attention during a pull.

Mythic+ Tank Rankings vs Raid Tank Rankings

Mythic+ and raid tank rankings answer different questions. Dungeons repeatedly test interrupts, stops, dispels, mob grouping, route movement, and five-player utility. Raid tank value depends more on individual boss mechanics, tank swaps, raid cooldowns, and which buffs are already covered by the rest of the roster.

This distinction is important when checking Warcraft Logs. The Warcraft Logs zone 53 rankings are for The Venomous Abyss raid. They should not be used as direct evidence for this Mythic+ tier list.

The current Mythic+ ranking uses dungeon data instead. Archon’s Mythic+ page aggregates Warcraft Logs data specifically for the current Season 2 dungeon pool.

Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ Rewards and Rating Goals

The tank tier list matters most when a player is pushing the upper rating brackets. Blizzard confirmed the following Midnight Season 2 thresholds:

Goal Requirement Reward
Midnight Keystone Conqueror 1500 rating The Venomous title
Midnight Keystone Master 2000 rating Breath of Blight mount
Midnight Keystone Legend 3000 rating Breath of Ruin mount
Dungeon Portals Time each dungeon at +10 or higher Portal access for the completed dungeon
Venomous Champion Regional top 1% Seasonal Feat of Strength
Venomous Hero Regional top 0.1% The Venomous Hero title

Every tank on this list can reach 1500 or 2000 rating. A timed +10 is far below the point where choosing an A-tier tank instead of a B-tier tank becomes the main obstacle. Gear, routes, interrupts, and defensive timing have a larger effect there.

Custom WoW Mythic+ runs are available for players who need Great Vault progress, a specific dungeon, or a timed rating run.

Should You Reroll to Blood Death Knight?

Reroll to Blood DK if you like controlling your own recovery and want the strongest current push-key toolkit. The spec rewards careful Runic Power management and gives a coordinated group tools that are difficult to replace.

Stay on your current tank if you already know its routes and defensive timings. Live Season 2 data shows Guardian, Brewmaster, Protection Paladin, Protection Warrior, and Vengeance reaching high keys too. An experienced player on one of those specs can perform better than someone learning Blood only because it is S tier.

A swap makes more sense when your regular party also needs Death Grip, Gorefiend’s Grasp, Anti-Magic Zone, or a combat resurrection.

Sources and Live Update Policy

The main placement order follows the Wowhead Midnight Season 2 Mythic+ tank ranking, updated September 1, 2026.

Live Mythic+ performance is checked against Archon’s Warcraft Logs-based Mythic+ tank data. At the September 4 review, its current dataset covered almost three million parses from keys +7 and above over the previous 14 days.

Patch 12.1 system and class changes come from Blizzard’s Curse of Ula’tek content update notes. The September version also accounts for Blizzard’s August 25 and September 1 live class hotfixes.

The dungeon pool, Season 2 start date, rating rewards, and +10 portal requirement come from Blizzard’s Midnight Season 2 launch information.

Warcraft Logs zone 53 is The Venomous Abyss raid, so it is used only when discussing raid data. It is not treated as a Mythic+ tank ranking.

One source also needs a small qualification. Wowhead’s September 1 page currently shows Protection Paladin as A tier in its ordered ranking while an older explanatory section lower on the same page still appears under a B-tier heading. This article follows the newer ordered ranking and checks the placement against current live data and Blizzard’s September 1 Protection Paladin buff.

This page should be reviewed after major tank tuning or a clear change in high-key representation. A tier should move only when the current evidence changes the recommendation.

Final Thoughts

Blood Death Knight is still the best Mythic+ tank in WoW Midnight Season 2 as of September 4, 2026. It remains the only S-tier tank in Wowhead’s current Patch 12.1 ranking and continues to appear at the top of live high-key data.

Vengeance Demon Hunter ranks second after receiving two rounds of defensive improvements. Guardian Druid and Brewmaster Monk are already producing strong live high-key results. Protection Paladin remains a strong A-tier pug tank and received a significant dungeon damage buff on September 1.

Protection Warrior is still B tier in the current Wowhead ranking, but the difference between B tier and the A-tier tanks is much smaller than the letter suggests. Mountain Thane Warrior is already represented in +19 keys in the live Archon snapshot.

What rating is required for the Season 2 Mythic+ mounts?

Midnight Keystone Master requires 2000 rating and rewards the Breath of Blight mount. Midnight Keystone Legend requires 3000 rating and rewards the Breath of Ruin mount.

When was this Mythic+ tank tier list last updated?

This version was reviewed on September 4, 2026. It includes Wowhead’s September 1 tank ranking, live Mythic+ data, and Blizzard tank hotfixes through September 2.
