Hunter, Warlock, and Enhancement Shaman lead the current WoW Forever DPS tier list at Level 30. The ranking is based on the live beta bracket, where damage output, pull size, party utility, uptime, and the tools available before deeper Level-60 talents all matter.
This page ranks PvE damage at the current Level-30 cap. It is not the same question as our WoW Forever Best Class Tier List, which compares the whole class package, and it is separate from our WoW Forever PvP Tier List. A class can be an excellent main or PvP pick without being the strongest current dungeon DPS.
There is also an important limit to every Level-30 ranking: the beta still cannot test complete Level-60 talent builds, final raid gear, or finished endgame encounters. The list below is a current snapshot, not a promise about launch meters.
WoW Forever Best DPS at Level 30 — Quick Facts
WoW Forever DPS Tier List at Level 30
| Tier | Specs / Classes | Current Level-30 Read |
|---|---|---|
| S | Hunter, Warlock, Enhancement Shaman | The strongest current combination of throughput, uptime, useful group tools, and Level-30 power spikes. |
| A | Mage, Retribution Paladin, Arms/Fury Warrior, Rogue, Elemental Shaman | Strong damage choices with clear strengths, but more dependent on pull size, melee uptime, resource flow, or current tuning. |
| B | Feral Druid | Playable and useful, but the current Cat toolkit is still developing and does not yet match the top Level-30 damage packages. |
| C | Shadow Priest, Balance Druid | Both bring useful hybrid or party value, but current raw damage is held back by the incomplete Level-30 caster toolkit and resource limits. |
The current external benchmark is Wowhead’s Level-30 PvE ranking for patch 1.60.1. It also warns that the bracket has relatively little separation between many specs, so the class package matters more than pretending every talent tree already has a mature endgame identity. View the current Wowhead Level-30 DPS ranking.
How We Rank DPS in the Current Beta
Level-30 DPS is not only a target-dummy race. Dungeon pulls reward different damage profiles, and several classes gain value from utility that creates more uptime for the whole group.
- Direct damage: how much pressure the class can produce with the toolkit actually available at Level 30.
- AoE and cleave: how much the class improves when the group pulls several enemies together.
- Uptime: how easily the class keeps dealing damage while moving, swapping targets, or handling mechanics.
- Resources: Mana, Rage, Energy, pet management, and how much downtime the class needs between pulls.
- Party value: buffs, debuffs, control, off-healing, pets, and other tools that help a group finish content faster or more safely.
That methodology is why this page can rank Hunter above Mage overall while still calling Mage one of the strongest AoE choices. A small dungeon pull and a large stacked pull are not the same DPS test.
If damage is only one part of your main-character decision, step back to the WoW Forever Best Class Tier List. It compares complete class packages instead of PvE damage alone. If your goal is player-versus-player combat, use the separate WoW Forever PvP Tier List; PvP control, mobility, healing reduction, and survivability produce a different ranking.
S-Tier DPS in WoW Forever
Hunter
Hunter is the strongest current all-purpose Level-30 DPS recommendation. The class performs especially well when the group is fighting one to three targets, where ranged uptime, pet pressure, Auto Shot, and efficient direct damage can keep working without waiting for a large AoE setup.
The current bracket still groups the three Hunter trees fairly closely rather than proving one permanent winner. Beast Mastery leans harder into pet value, Marksmanship puts more of the pressure on the Hunter, and Survival now has enough depth to show its melee direction. Start with the WoW Forever Hunter Guide for the class-wide choice. If the pet-focused route is the one you want to test first, continue into the Beast Mastery Hunter guide for the current-cap build and deeper PvE framework.
Hunter’s weakness is the opposite of Mage and Warlock: very large stacked pulls do not multiply its value as dramatically. If your group chain-pulls big packs, the strongest AoE casters can overtake it quickly.
Warlock
Warlock is the biggest Level-30 mover compared with the opening beta. More talent depth, strong damage-over-time effects, demon pressure, and excellent multi-target tools push the class into S Tier.
Warlock also has one of the best current AoE profiles. When several enemies live long enough for the class to use its spread damage and AoE toolkit properly, its damage ceiling rises sharply. The tradeoff is management: Soul Shards, Life Tap, demon choice, Mana, and setup make the class more involved than Hunter’s basic ranged loop.
Affliction, Demonology, and Destruction still answer different gameplay questions, so use the WoW Forever Warlock Guide before choosing the exact path. If the sustained DoT and spread-pressure profile described above is what interests you, the Affliction Warlock guide owns the exact current build, resource loop, and later PvE theorycraft.
Enhancement Shaman
Enhancement is the clearest individual spec in the current S Tier. Level 30 is a major breakpoint because Windfury Weapon is available and the normal 0/21/0 route reaches Stormstrike, Flurry, Elemental Weapons, and the first rank of Improved Stormstrike.
That gives Enhancement a much more complete damage engine than it had at Level 20. It can combine slow-weapon melee pressure with Windfury bursts while still bringing Purge, Shocks, healing, and Totems. The downside is melee uptime and resource management: poor positioning or long periods away from the target reduce the value quickly.
Use the WoW Forever Shaman Guide if you are still comparing Enhancement with Elemental or Restoration. Once Enhancement is the choice, the WoW Forever Enhancement Shaman Guide owns the current Level-30 build and deeper PvE theorycraft.
A-Tier DPS in WoW Forever
Mage
Mage remains extremely strong, especially when dungeon pulls are large enough to reward its AoE toolkit. In the right group, Mage and Warlock can produce the most impressive pack damage in the current bracket.
The reason Mage sits in A instead of S is consistency across pull types. When enemies arrive in smaller groups, Hunter and strong physical DPS can get more value without waiting for an AoE setup. Arcane, Fire, and Frost also still have meaningful Level-60 tools missing from the current beta.
Use the WoW Forever Mage Guide to compare Arcane, Fire, and Frost before moving into a specific build guide. This page ranks the current damage package; the spec guides own the exact talents, rotations, and deeper mechanics.
Retribution Paladin
Retribution has enough Level-30 depth to show a real melee damage identity around Seals, Judgement, Holy Strike, Seal of Command, Sacred Arbiter, and early Vengeance. It also keeps the defensive and support tools that make Paladin useful even when pure damage dips.
That utility is valuable, but it also means current Retribution should not be read as a pure meter specialist. The deeper Seal Twisting package and Twist of Light belong to later progression. Use the WoW Forever Paladin Guide if you are still comparing roles; once Retribution is the choice, the WoW Forever Retribution Paladin Guide owns the current 0/0/21 route and deeper melee mechanics.
Arms and Fury Warrior
Warrior benefits from the general strength of physical DPS in the Level-30 bracket. Good weapons, sustained melee uptime, and stable Rage generation can produce excellent results, while Battle Shout and the broader Warrior toolkit add party value.
The ranking is still sensitive to gear and encounter shape. A Warrior that cannot stay on the target loses more than a ranged class, and several deeper tools still sit beyond the beta cap. Start with the WoW Forever Warrior Guide to compare the class-wide tradeoffs, then use the Arms Warrior guide or Fury Warrior guide for exact build ownership.
Rogue
Rogue is a strong current melee DPS class, but the most important long-term signal is separate from the Level-30 ranking. Blizzard has said Rogue is intended to deliver the highest single-target damage in an ideal standstill boss encounter at endgame.
That does not make Rogue the current Level-30 S Tier winner. It means the class has a clear future niche: exceptional sustained boss damage when it can stay on target. AoE, movement, target swaps, mechanics, and final tuning can still change real raid performance.
Use the WoW Forever Rogue Guide to compare Assassination, Combat, and Subtlety. Because the current Level-30 evidence does not justify inventing one universal PvE winner between those trees, this role page routes to the class decision first and leaves exact talent/rotation ownership to the individual spec guides.
Elemental Shaman
Elemental brings ranged burst, Shocks, Purge, Totems, and off-healing, which gives it more party value than raw damage alone suggests. Its limitation is still the caster resource model: the spec cannot ignore Mana, and several of the deeper tools that define later Elemental are not yet available.
That leaves Elemental in A Tier as a strong utility caster rather than the safest pure-damage recommendation. The WoW Forever Shaman Guide handles the class-wide Enhancement/Elemental/Restoration decision; the WoW Forever Elemental Shaman Guide owns the current build and spell priorities.
B- and C-Tier DPS: Viable, but Not Current Frontrunners
Feral Druid — B Tier
Feral Cat is now a real Level-30 DPS option, and the tree has enough depth to feel far closer to its intended identity than it did at Level 20. Weapon scaling, Cat Form, Feral mobility, and the deeper talent path all help.
It still sits below the main A-tier physical classes in the current bracket. The reward is flexibility: the same class can tank in Bear, and Druid utility remains valuable even when Cat is not the strongest damage profile. Use the WoW Forever Druid Guide for the class-wide role choice, then the WoW Forever Feral Druid Guide for Cat-specific decisions.
Shadow Priest — C Tier
Shadow is not a bad specialization; it is simply missing too much of the deeper package to rank with the strongest current DPS. Damage-over-time pressure, Mind Flay, Shadow Weaving, Vampiric Embrace, and utility already give the spec a recognizable role, but raw Level-30 throughput is still behind the top choices.
The WoW Forever Priest Guide is the right class-level route if you are comparing Shadow with healing roles. For damage-specific ownership, the WoW Forever Shadow Priest Guide separates the current 2/0/19 build from later Shadowform theorycraft.
Balance Druid — C Tier
Balance gains a major improvement at Level 30 through Insect Swarm, better Mana tools, and enough extra points to make the caster loop more practical. It also brings valuable hybrid utility and a strong Thorns contribution to the tank.
The problem is that the defining deep-tree package — Nature’s Grace, Eclipse, and Moonkin Form — still belongs to later progression. Balance also lacks the wand filler that helps several other casters manage the current low-level resource environment.
Use the WoW Forever Druid Guide if the class-wide role flexibility matters to the decision. The WoW Forever Balance Druid Guide owns the current 16/0/5 caster route.
Best WoW Forever DPS by Situation
| Situation | Start With | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Small dungeon pulls / direct pressure | Hunter | Excellent ranged uptime and strong damage without needing a large AoE setup. |
| Large AoE pulls | Warlock or Mage | Both gain substantial value when several targets stay stacked long enough for AoE tools to work. |
| Melee with hybrid utility | Enhancement Shaman | Current Level-30 Windfury and Stormstrike package plus Purge, Shocks, heals, and Totems. |
| Physical melee DPS | Warrior or Rogue | Strong current physical damage, with different tradeoffs around gear, uptime, control, and future scaling. |
| Future single-target raid signal | Rogue | Blizzard has explicitly described Rogue as the intended ideal single-target boss-damage leader at endgame. |
| Ranged damage with group utility | Elemental Shaman | Burst damage plus Purge, Shocks, Totems, and emergency healing. |
Level 30 DPS Is Not the Final Level-60 Meta
The most important mistake to avoid is extending this table directly to launch. Level 30 is useful because it exposes much more of each talent tree than the opening beta, but it still stops before complete 31-point builds, final raid gear, full profession scaling, and the encounter mechanics that decide real raid uptime.
Rogue is the clearest example. It is A Tier in the current bracket, yet Blizzard’s stated design target gives it a much stronger future single-target identity. Balance is the reverse example: current Level-30 damage is limited, while several defining talents are still locked deeper in the tree.
Use this list to choose what performs well now. Move to a class hub when you are still deciding between roles or trees, then into the linked spec guide once you know which specialization you want. Exact talent allocations and presets remain calculator-owned rather than being duplicated on this ranking page. Revisit the ranking whenever the beta cap or major tuning changes.
Turn Your DPS Pick Into PvE Progression
Once you know which damage style fits you, choose the content you want to prepare for next. Current Level-30 rankings are useful for dungeons now, while raids remain a later-progression goal.
